Gorgeous antique Federal chest of drawers. Four graduated. Full length drawers. Wood looks like mahogany with remarkable contrasting diamond pattern inlay work bordering the edges of the drawer faces and down the sides of the front of the piece. Dovetail joints in all of the drawers as well as oval mount, bail handle drawer pulls. The drawer pulls are not original to the piece. Inlaid, shield shaped wooden key surrounds. Turned feet show influence from earlier styles. Panelled sides and an overhanging, unmolded top complete the dresser. Piece dates from the early 1800's. This wonderful piece combines elements of both Hepplewhite and Sheraton design. Overall. The chest is in very good condition. There is some damage to the finish on the top of the dresser as well as some breakage to the inlay on both sides of the bottom stripe. Fine American Federal Bowfront Chest of Drawers Dresser 18th Century c.1790-1810
This listing is for a Hepplewhite Bowfront Chest of Drawers of the George III/Federal Period(depending on origin) Crafted in New England or England, circa 1790-1810. The top is a fine single solid board of bleached mahogany, bow in form along the front, with fine grains framed in an edge of banded veneer flanked by satinwood stringer inlays. It slides on dovetails along the top of the case, allowing it to shrink and expand without threatening to split the single solid board top; the top is also nailed for stability beneath round wooden pegs, some of the nails broken over time. The face of the case features four graduated bowed drawers. Each hand dovetailed beneath the applied cockbead molding framing each drawer. The drawers are constructed with pine secondary woods, each carefully preserved with some rebuilding to ensure full functionality, ... moreincluding a strip added at the back of each drawer to compensate for shrinking across the grains and replaced runner dovetails. They feature replaced brass knob hardware, each glowing and in flawless condition. An original lock is still secured in all but the top drawer. The face of each drawer is built up using pine secondaries beneath the mahogany veneers for a light and easily flowing drawer. The case sides are dovetailed at the bottom. Forming a perfect square of the solid mahogany sides. The back boards are secured to the back of the case with original rose head nails, coupled with many modern nails to tighten the back to the case. The chest rests over intensely flared french feet on splayed toes, each entirely original with all interior blocking entirely original and only one slight replacement with the rear right foot support. This is an absolutely gorgeous chest of drawers. Using soft bleached mahogany to it's fullest to create a warm and glowing design. With tight and clean lines that are clearly broken with the intense flare of the feet and smooth curving apron, it brings life to any formal setting. Mid Century Mahogany Federal Style 2 over 2 Drawer Chest W/ Banded Inlaid Design
This is a mid century Federal style two over two drawer chest. The maker of this piece is unknown. It appears to be a good quality piece that is well made. This is made from mahogany and has a banded. Inlaid design framing the faces of the drawers and on the top of the chest. There is string inlay down the front legs. The drawers are jointed and tight. The handles on this have been replaced. The original handles were an oval brass design and there are signs on the drawers where they sat originally. The piece measures 32.5" in height. 42" in length and 20 3/8" in depth. This has the original porcelain casters with brass caps. The top two drawers have an inside depth of 3.25" The middle is 4.25" deep and the bottom drawer is 5.25" deep. There is a slight warp in the top of this and it can be seen in the photos. ... moreThere is also a small crack on one of the side panels. Antique Federal Style Flame Mahogany Dresser w/ Mirror Chest of 6 Drawers Bureau
Antique Federal style mirrored dresser or chest of drawers dating from the early 1900's. Stunning flame mahogany veneers grace the surfaces of this piece and are decorated with intricate contrasting inlay. An inlay medallion of a lamp has been placed atop the swivelling mirror. This piece has six drawers ina 3 over 3 configuration. Providing ample storage space. All the drawers are made with high quality dovetail construction. The entire piece is raised off of the ground by short tapered square legs sitting on brass and wood casters. Overall. This piece is in good condition. There is some noticeable silver loss to the mirror(see pictures) but no cracks or other damage. The wood has some noticeable wear associated with age, including chips and breakage to the veneers or inlay, including the lamp maedallion at the top of the mirror. See ... morepictures. There is also a chip out of the left side finial and the right side finial is missing altogether. The knob that goes over the swivel action of the mirror on the right side has come off, but we do have it. The wheels of the casters do no turn easily and probably need to be oiled. Fine American New England 18th Century Federal Chest of Drawers Dresser, Antique

Description: This listing is for a Federal Period Red Painted Maple Chest of Drawers. Probably Connecticut c. 1780-1800. It is a gorgeous work of art with a rather early and wonderful crusty red and black painted surface over the primary woods. The top projects over the case, finishing in soft molded edges over four graduated drawers. Each drawer features fully original hand cast batwing hardware and faux-keyhole escutcheons with numerous layers of original and later paints- one picture below shows a faux-keyhole escutcheon removed from the case, depicting the gritty surface behind it as well as detailed closeups of the back of the hardware. Each drawer is hand dovetailed with broad and rough dovetails, using what appear to ... morebe Eastern Pine for the drawer frame and bottom. The bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the frame, and each drawer bottom is nailed at the back, though many nails are later with only a few originals. Each drawer is divided by cross bars that through-dovetail into and through the side of the case and backed by pine drawer runners nailed inside the case with rose head iron nails(one drawer runner top right replaced) The bottom of the case is uniquely designed, sliding into rabbets in the sides of the case along the entire bottom, locking at the front with an exposed through-dovetail. The top, likewise built to last, is joined at the top with a sliding dovetail joint that allows the top to expand and shrink easily without causing cracking or pressure. The back of the case features two board construction, one board being incredibly wide at 20" the second board being 13" wide with a soft ovular flow between the back feet. Original iron rose heads line the perimeter of the case back, locking the very thick secondary wood to the case permanently with only one replaced nail. Yellow Pine Secondaries Untouched original condition Item# 130002FHK19 This piece is simply a treasure- an untouched and entirely original American Federal Period Antique Blanket Chest crafted during the first quarter of the 19th Century. Almost certainly in Pennsylvania. It features six-board construction. Every junction dovetailed for a permanent and flexible join throughout. The surface is dry and well patinated, almost certainly the original painted surface; the history of this antique blanket chest, how it was enjoyed and used over the last two hundred years, is tattooed in the stains, abrasions and oxidized scars across it's fine dark red painted finish. The top projects over the chest with applied molding along the facing edges. This ... morewith a scratched-channel giving form to the molding, the lid lifting over original square iron hinges with untouched screws. The iron lock and catch are still original to the chest, though the key has since been lost; a crescent is worn in the underside of the top where the lid of the till has scraped over the years, this same surface inscribed" Jennise A Bowman" Vanessa C. Roscoe" along with earlier mostly illegible inscriptions and numbers. Bringing harmony to the molded top is the opposing molding of the base. This stacked with a bead over rounded molding with a scratched-channel over the bracket feet. The form of the feet are appropriate and restrained, the scroll cut bracket form giving just subtle shape to an otherwise stoic form. The dovetailed feet are crafted such to showcase the most attractive perspective of the dovetail on the forward facing surfaces; the sides join the front board with half-blind dovetails, leaving the forward facing surface of the board unblemished by visible dovetailing. American Federal Period Walnut Chest of Drawers Four graduated drawers flanked by chamfered columns over splayed French feet Pennsylvania. C. 1800-15 Item# 130101PHP13 While the Hepplewhite form employing splayed french feet in case pieces is well developed. Even common, this chest exudes a certain strength that is uncommon in Federal period works of the Hepplewhite style. The solid walnut and solid poplar construction gives it inordinate weight, but the intense lift of the feet, raising the apron sharply in the corners, eliminates the heaviness of the look. The projecting top is crafted of two boards, the last 3/4" along the front actually a continuation of the front of the chest up through the top, a somewhat unusual and perhaps unique construction method. Surrounding this is a dropped and applied molding over four graduated drawers. ... moreThese with molded lips of the solid, each framed with hand dovetailed poplar boards with a deeply chamfered poplar bottom sliding into rabbets in the frame and tacked at the back with square nails. The dovetailing method is somewhat original, using very large dovetails at the front, smaller dovetails at the back, the lowest back dovetail squared on it's lower edge to receive the drawer bottom in the rabbet cut. Flanking these drawers are chamfered columns on either side. Both sides of the case are single solid planks of walnut. Incredibly large boards with wonderful grain appearance. Five vertical poplar boards line the back of the case, these entirely undisturbed and nailed in neat rows, the boards on the far left and right sides continuing all the way to the ground. As a result of this construction method, the feet are in simply outstanding stable condition, despite the incredible weight being supported. The feet are entirely original, the interior blocking of each a complex and almost puzzle-like formation. Featuring stunning mahogany selections throughout the entire case, glowing with a fine finish and polish, it is very striking visually. The square top projects over a large top drawer which drops smoothly on brass elbow hinges to reveal a green felt lined writing surface. Over the writing surface is a tiny door with an ovular inlaid motif central framed in a thin rectangle of satinwood, notched at each corner. A tiny original key is still in the door, operating the working lock smoothly. The door opens to reveal a stack of three drawers with tiny original brass ... moreknobs. Flanking the door on either side are stacks of three drawers on either side; all nine of the drawers inside of the desk are hand dovetailed front and back with solid pine secondary woods and gorgeous mahogany veneer fronts. Beneath the desk surface are three graduated drawers, again featuring polished brass oval pulls- these are all replaced, but are period antique pulls. These drawers flow smoothly in and out of the piece. The apron of the case features an upside-down fan inlay beneath toothed and checkered inlay, the fan following the waving flow of the apron into splayed bracket feet. This is a beautiful work of Federal design- being a composed piece. This is not a collector piece. It is a stunning decorative piece that is fully functional in every way, while being incredibly beautiful in the total design. It is at totally harmony with itself, using old parts with a well developed patina to give it the mellow glow that only comes with time. American Federal Painted Antique Chest of Drawers, Connecticut c. 1780-1800
American Federal Period Red Painted Chest of Drawers Connecticut c. 1780-1800 Item# 120102ZMP25 This is a rather fine American Federal Period Red Painted Maple Chest of Drawers. Almost certainly Connecticut c. 1780-1800. It is an absolute work of art with a somewhat early and crusty red and black painted surface over the maple primary woods. The broad single board top projects over the case, finishing in soft molded edges of the solid over four graduated drawers. Each drawer features original hand cast batwing hardware and faux-keyhole escutcheons with numerous layers of original and later paints- one picture below shows a faux-keyhole escutcheon removed from the case, depicting the gritty surface behind it as well as detailed closeups of the back of the hardware. Each drawer is hand dovetailed with broad and rough dovetails. The drawer frame ... moreand bottom crafted of white pine. The bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the frame, and each drawer bottom is nailed at the back, though many nails are later with only a few originals. Each drawer is divided by drawer blades that through-dovetail into and through the side of the case and backed by pine drawer runners nailed inside the case with rose head iron nails(one drawer runner top right replaced) The bottom of the case is uniquely designed. Sliding into rabbets in the sides of the case along the entire bottom, locking at the front with an exposed through-dovetail. The top, likewise built to last, is joined at the top with a sliding dovetail joint that allows the top to expand and shrink easily without causing cracking or pressure. The back of the case features two board construction, one board being incredibly wide at 20" the second board being 13" wide with a soft ovular flow between the back feet. Original iron rose heads line the perimeter of the case back, locking the very thick secondary wood to the case permanently with only one replaced nail. A late18th to early 19th Century American Chippendale large chest of drawers. Possibly Southern in origin. Height- 43 5/8 inches Width- 43 inches Depth- 20 inches American Revolutionary to Federal Period large chest of drawers. Appropriate wear to the internal parts and rails consistent with the age. Original finish with wear. Replacement handles. The chest may have originally had single drop pulls and as there is a single hole space under the present handles. Mahogany or black cherry veneer over poplar or elm secondary woods. All woods are well desiccated. Appropriate to the suggested time period. Appears that all of the original wood is intact including secondary woods. Varied hand cut dovetails. Mortise and tenon interior. Original back panels. Hand chamfered throughout. American Federal Inlaid Mahogany Bowfront Chest of Drawers Mid-Atlantic States c. 1790-1810 Item# 120101KVP05 This is a very fine American Federal Bowfront Inlaid Mahogany Chest of Drawers. Middle Atlantic States, circa 1790-1810. Crafted of solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, the golden grain flow is magnificent and unbroken. The top has an inlaid rim with stringer inlay outlines, rectangular in shape while gently bowing across the front to conform with the case. The drawers are also bowed, each with fully original oval brasses flanking original keyholes over what we believe to be original locks with ovular stringer inlay outlining each of the graduated four drawers. They are hand dovetailed back and front, with yellow pine secondaries, the bottom board chamfered to rabbet into the drawer frame and secured with glued blocking at regular ... moreintervals along the frame. Each drawer is divided by a solid mahogany bar, backed by pine secondaries that go almost the entire way through the case to form most of a dust board between the drawers. The drawer blades are hidden behind a thin piece of mahogany. Presumably covering the dovetail slot joinery. The back of the case features all original boards, many with original iron rose head nails, but re-secured with nails and screws throughout. An original yellowed hand written label is illegible, but still present on the back of the case. The chest rests over four French feet, each with just slight outward splay and entirely original blocking along the bottom. The feet are cracked along the grain, natural as the grains run perpendicular to the pine blocking, but do not in any way compromise the feet. A fine band of yellow inlay framed by dark stringer inlay runs along the bottom of the case to complete the chest. Original in almost every single aspect of the chest. This work of art is remarkably well preserved. As an investment grade antique in every aspect, this is a very fine acquisition for any serious collector of American Federal furniture. The drawer fronts are uniform flame mahogany veneer. The top is of two solid boards, the posts solid, the sides of veneer. It measures 40" tall by 41" wide by 18" deep at center. Very good plus condition: original finish, a few minor old veneer patches on skirt and some larger on lower sides. Old brasses and knobs are old replacements to originals. It is defined by original brasses. French feet, single board wide plank sides, scrolled apron, cock bead moldings and a very good original structural condition. We note a very old refinishing with a note inscribed in the case that it was color matched by Paine's(Paine Furniture Company) of Arlington street(Boston) This was done sometime after its creation in 1835 and before Paine's became a furniture making giant in the 1870's. The French feet on this chest give us question on if its a Portsmouth New Hampshire or Boston piece. We have seen these on both disciplines of furniture making. This well preserved work was likely crafted as a salesman's sample to assist in selling larger forms of the same chest. It was crafted with utmost care and attention to detail, allowing potential customers to see exactly what level of craftsmanship they could expect in a full size chest of drawers. The top is a beautiful show of straight grains framed in a double-bead of stringer inlay in the New York manner(see Montgomery, p. 31) this affixed to the case with screws through cross braces both fore and aft of the case, these presumably sliding into the sides with small dovetails. ... moreThe finest selections of curly and straight grain mahogany cover the white pine core, the veneer cut in the typical"ten sheets to the inch" of the period- measurements of the veneers range from 0.092" 0.11" in depth throughout. The interior is simple and clean, each drawer blade backed by white pine core and a pair of flanking runners resting in grooves on either side. Each drawer is perfectly cut with neat and clean dovetailing. The bottom boards very lightly chamfered along the edges and set in the sides above the thin runner, the backs tacked with two to three iron brads. The little brass knobs on each drawer are period but are not original, the light impressions of early brass knobs still evident on the facade, though the replacement was very respectful of the case and utilized the original holes. Each drawer is edged in a bright stringer inlay. The back is a single plank of white pine that has split from shrinkage over the years, the edges nailed with large square forged iron nails in even rows, each untouched. The whole of the form rests over refined and boldly splayed French feet flanking the hollowed-serpentine skirt. This skirt is very distinctive. Mo

Circa 1820's Federal Cherry Chest Of Drawers W/Flame Mahogany Front - Two Tone
Circa 1820's Federal Two Tone Chest Of Drawers From a local estate this piece made in the 1820's out of mainly Cherry wood with Flame Mahogany veneered fronts. The piece is solid and of heavy construction with the front drawers being anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2" thick. Each drawer is of tongue and groove construction with the key holes having either Maple or Ivory inserts. The drawers do open and close smoothly. Second drawer has beaded edge work all around front face. The only problem with this piece is the numerous veneers chips on the sides and edges of some of the drawers and front fascia. Most of them have been there forever and really aren't that noticeable but you look at the photo's and decide for yourself. We'd like to believe it adds charm and character. The other problem is a small piece of one of the back ... morefeet is missing and there is an ink blotch on the top both of which can be seen. Again, it is to be expected for a piece this old but otherwise it is solid, sturdy and clean.
