Featuring original Queen Anne period brass hardware and ... moreall original locks, circa 1740-50. It is a beautiful piece with a simple form so successful commercially that it was copied in bedroom furniture for nearly 300 years, the same form being used in case pieces today. It is of outstanding craftsmanship being formed almost entirely of solid Cuban Mahogany, today a rare and restricted wood of incredible cost, known for it's dark and dense grain formations. A carved crown molding wraps around the front and sides. Repaired in numerous areas along, completing the smooth finished top of the case. The sides of the case are two boards that blind-dovetail at the top and through-dovetail at the bottom. The face of the case features two smaller drawers over four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws. Each drawer is hand dovetailed. Uniquely with graduating dovetails- the top two drawers have two dovetails, the next drawer down has three dovetails, the third down four dovetails, fourth with five dovetails and the bottom drawer with six. The top two drawers are divided by an upright bar with a half-dovetail joint penetrating the crossbar. Each drawer is divided with full dust board divisions, mahogany along the face, pine secondary woods making up the rest of the dust board. The dust board is primarily an English invention, found only infrequently on American case pieces, and conveniently protects clothing and items in drawers below from being dirtied by the drawer action. The back of the case is made up of one original board and the rest replaced. All re-secured with newer nails- a label inside on one of the replaced boards refers to a furniture depository in England. I believe it is from the 1940's or 1950's and was made by Cronstroms for Montgomery Ward's. This metal cooler is in beautiful used vintage condition. There are a few dents and scrapes but this just adds to its historical value. The side handles and latches are secure and work smoothly. But the rubber seal on the inside is not intact. The original divider is included; this would have kept the food from all sliding together. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position ... morewith the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. I'm not sure but I believe it is vintage because of the handles are very similar to other pieces I've had from the 1940's to 1960's. Plus I can't imagine they would make modern pieces for the purpose of storing silver, but then I may be wrong. The top tray flips open for red velvet-lined storage. The velvet is in great shape- no rips or stains. But it may need a vaccuuming. This portion measures 4.75"tall x 19" wide ... morex 13" deep. The top drawer is false to accomodate for the flip top. Vintage Stagecoach Steamer Trunk. Metal and Wood. Great Original Condition(Slightly) Round Top Trunk- circa 1880"Camel Back" I heard they used to call these Camel back trunks. This Round top trunk is in good condition considering that it’s probably over 130 years old. It is a combination of metal and wood with small caster wheels on the bottom(all functional but noisy) Basically the whole trunk is covered in metal and this was made to last with reinforced braces on the top. Sides and bottom. There is also a nice hammered floral pattern on the top and sides. The leather straps will need to be replaced(trunk repair items such as straps are readily sold on the internet) Also, the one hinge on back(as pictured) pulls away from trunk when open and needs screws- but still very functional. The interior has a very small portion of the original ... morepatterned paper lining the lift-out tray. The wooden lift-out tray is the full width of the trunk and is compartmentalized and is visible upon opening the trunk. The center locking latch does function; however. There is no key(but could be opened carefully using a screwdriver) There are 2 other black side latches on the front of the chest. One side clasp is broken off and the other works quite nicely. Also. The wood along the front opening is chipped(see pic) but, this cannot be seen when chest is fully closed. This would be a great addition for any decor and makes a great conversation piece. This was in a family for nearly 200 years and was passed down to the heir several times. It is in good condition for an 1800's piece. It is a wonderful 1800's Tantalus Liquor Smoking Chest. Nice orginal condition as shown. Can be shined up to suit if desired. Handles work fine and it is heavy. Original Decanters and stoppers have some mild chips. The orignal key is in the lock on front. When opened you can see one large compartment and one small. Perhaps for smoking pipes and matches. Gorgeous early empire style chest of drawers for sale. This is made of I believe white pine and has a beautiful mahogany veneer on the drawer fronts. This piece was acquired from an estate sale in Maine. It has four large lower drawers and two smaller glove box drawers on top. The back splash on the top is original which is quite rare to find because most of them on pieces of this age have been broken or lost. The four large drawers have all been repaired and open and close very well now. The entire piece was refinished showing its true beauty. The knobs on the drawers are also original. PRESENTING A STRIKING ANTIQUE c.1850s BURLWOOD FIGURED EMPIRE DRESSER CHEST OF DRAWERS. This original mid 1800s Empire Period dresser features stunningly beautiful Burlwood grain Figure. It is entirely made by hand in the days before electricity. Using only hand tools. Bookmatched designs on the drawers& flowing down and over the bottom apron. This chest is in great vintage condition, with normal nicks, dings& marks from father time. Overall it presents quite nicely as you can see. It is super solidly built using time honored, traditional Mortise& Tenon Joinery. The top is solid old growth wide board American Walnut& in nice condition. The sides are Panel-in-frame with Solid Walnut. Scrolled, Burlwood corbel pilaster corners flow down to curled Burlwood Empire feet. Top drawers are curved& divided inside. Lower drawer ... morefronts are bound on all sides with solid bull-nosed Walnut edging- a sign of the finest craftsmanship of the day. All of the drawers feature solid brass key escutchions& their original working Mortise Locks. Original lock Key is included. You can see the hand-cut Dovetail joinery on the drawer cases. Along with hand planed, chamfered bottoms. You can see the ccabinet makers tool marks throughout this wonderful piece. Have a look at the original. Oversize, hand-turned handles- also done in solid American Walnut Burl! I have never seen wooden handles quite like this- they are shimmery& irridescent& look like smoothly polished stone!
