Style of this vanity has influences of Mission with the straight lines, and also Empire with the curved scrolled front legs, typical of a late 19th century transitional piece. Stunning Antique Queen Anne style curly maple desk. This piece is classically styled and has beautiful hand carved work on the knees of the cabriole legs. The dovetails in each of the drawers also look hand cut. Overhanging top with molded edges. The exact age of this piece is unknown. While it has hand made details and old woods. It looks like it has a more recent finish and the back and possibly the bottoms of the drawers have been replaced with stained oak. A small repair has also been made to the back right corner of the desk as well as to the decoration on the right side under the center drawer. Ebony wood dressing table or desk tray with silver embellished compartment lids. Measures 13 x 8 inches. Stamped'REAL EBONY' to the base. Both lids have vacant cartouches and hallmarked London 1920, makers mark H F Daltrey& Co. the engravings are very clear, not at all rubbed and the hallmarks distinct. The ebony is in near perfect condition; there is a nick to the corner of one lid(see photo) a 1.5 inch hairline crack to one side of the base and a small rough mark to the inside, none of which are at all noticeable but I like to be meticulous. It has a very high polish. Up for auction is this lovely Art Deco brush set The 4 items are in good condition overall. The silver shines up beautifully still. On offer is: A pair of oval shaped brushes. The main bodies are wood and still retain most of the original bristles- there are some missing but this is expected with age. Both are silver mounted and this is decorated with a lovely engined wavy pattern with a central plaque left plain. Both are covered in dents especially around the ends and one does have a split in the silver- again at one end. They measure 15cm by 4cm and stand 4.5cm in height A pair of handled brushes. The main bodies are wood which still retain all of the original bristles. They are silver mounted and this is decorated with the same engined wavy pattern as on the oval brushes. There are a few dents here and there especially around the top ... moreend. The handles are particularly decorative- also silver they have a lovely rounded shape and surprisingly are not dented or damaged- how they have survived I do not know! Up for auction is this lovely dressing table pot It is in really good condition overall. The silver mount shines up beautifully still The main body is glass and has a lovely rounded shape decorated with engraved patterns. The underside has a star shape cut in The top is silver and simply pushes on. This is in good condition- there are dents over the top but no splits. It is decorated with a gorgeous engined patterned which certainly adds a quality look to the item. It has a full set of hallmarks on one side which are worn in places but I believe them to be for London 1930 and the maker"C&A" This pot measures 6.5cm in height and has a diameter of around 8cm. Purchased through an estate sale in old Charleston, SC and in lovely condition for a late 19th century piece with three wonderful beveled mirrors, lovely burl walnut on the front of the drawers, six small drawers and two large drawers for lots of organized storage and a nice top surface. The finish is in good condition, commensurate with it's age with only the minor nicks and dents one would expect with respectful use over time. The three beautiful beveled mirrors are clear and in very good condition, free of cracks, chips or pitting. In my close up I show how easily these mirrors on the side remove for easy and safe transport then are simply hooked back in place. Blanckensee& Son in Birmingham, England in 1903 at their Great Hampton Street workshops. It is in a gorgeous rectangular shape with lovely embossed decoration and has a beautiful scalloped lip. To the base it has a knee hole or some times in England years ago they used to let the dog sleep in there.They called it a dog kennel, it has the original cut glass handle. With unusual simple construction of solid oak plank sides and a thich cross beam. With a drop in seat that has been recently re-upholstered in immaculate gold chenile. This habric has a lovely soft texture. It is a drop in seat that can be removed and recovered. We can recover for a fee. Prior to purchase. It has been used in a large church hall. Very early ebony curved hat brush with silver embellishment. Hallmarked Birmingham 1898. Makers mark W.W. The hallmarks and engravings are very bright and unrubbed and the cartouche is vacant. The brush measures 10 inches long and the ebony is in perfect condition with no chips, nicks, cracks or scratches, and has a very highly polished patina. A very rare find. It is of very good quality with repousse and chased work. I cannot see any rubbed areas showing a different colour of metal bene ath and I cannot fin d any hallmarks. To be sa fe I am selling this as being silver plated and so you will have to make up your own mind. The mirror glass would need replacing and the comb has breaks to the i-vory te eth. Unused carved black horn and sterling silver comb originally made to go with an ebony vanity set. Silver hallmarked London 1924. Maker's mark P&E, no damage or rubbing whatsoever, I think I have just polished it for the very first time for the photograph. The horn body measures 7.75 inches long and is in equally perfect condition. I very rarely come across a comb and I have never seen one with all of it's teeth intact let alone in perfect condition! HEAVY Repousse Art Nouveau Antique English Sterling Silver Dressing Table Tray
This is a beautiful Edwardian sterling silver dressing table tray made by Henry Matthews and clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 1903. It is in very good condition with no damage or repairs. The design is striking with a raised gadroon rim and extensive repousse work of scrolls. Flowers and leaves around the border. There is then a lovely sunburst design leading to a vacant cartouche which has been formed from yet more scrolls, flowers and leaves. Made of a heavy gauge of silver it has retained its original shape and sits firmly. this is a quality Edwardian silver tray from a well respected silversmith. The pontil rod is attached to ... morethe base of a piece whilst it still hot using a blob of molten glass. The blowing iron is then snapped off what will become the top of the piece. This allows the rim. And possibly others parts, to be opened up and finished off. Once this has been done. The rapidly cooling and increasingly brittle piece is gently knocked off the pontil rod into a lehr oven. Allowing it to cool properly. The area where the pontil rod was attached to the base of the piece is thus left rough and sharp as in the image. Sometimes this is polished away when the piece has cooled. Or else another blob of glass may be added to which a company motif may be impressed. Please read the description above carefully. The silver tops are all hallmarked for London 1913 and were made by John Pound& Co. who were a firm producing high quality. Luxury dressing cases in the early 20th century. These items are in lovely condition with no dents in the silver or cracks,chips or other damage to the glass. The two oval section bottles have 12 cut glass facetted sides and the two round section bottles have 10. The right and left hand bottles in image 1 are 9.5 cm tall. The centre bottle is 9.0 cm tall, the bottle in front is 16.8 cm tall. The total silver weight of the tops is 59.1 grams and the gross weight of the bottles is 480 grams. Antique dressing table talcum pot & vintage powder puff LID DAMAGED initials AS
A handsome little antique powder pot. Presumably Edwardian. Or perhaps a little earlier. It comes with an exquisite powder puff; I have no idea how old this is. But it has clearly lived in the pot for some considerable time. The pot is three inches tall. And once formed part of a dressing-table set. The lid has the initials AS in silver-coloured metal. The base is marked: EBONY Condition The base of the pot is in excellent condition. With no damage except that the screw thread has worn a little on one side. The powder puff is beautifully soft and feathery. It still has a light dusting of powder. The lid is not quite so good as the rest of the pot. The top of the lid is good-looking. With the silver-coloured initials AS fixed in the centre, and a few marks from normal use. The sides of the lid. However, have 5 hairline cracks- presumably the ... morelid was forced or cross-threaded at some time in the past. The lid can no longer be fastened tightly. Because of the cracks. Hatpin holder, hair receiver and lid, and powder jar with lid, on an oblong shaped tray. The design is green clover flowers with gold accents on a white background with a dark green and gold rim. Dimensions: The tray measures 14" x 8 7/8" The vase is 6 7/8" high, the hatpin holder is 4 7/8" high, the receiver is 5" in diameter round, and the oblong powder jar or trinket jar is 4 3/8" x 3 1/2" Marks/Dates: The bottom of the tray has an impressed"2872" with a more difficult to read number that looks like"89. There are also 2 handwritten numbers"849" and"24" The other pieces have similar handwritten numbers. There is no maker's ... moremark so it is not possible to determine its provenance. The style would suggest early Germany or perhaps Austria. Condition: Amazing for its age. No cracks or chips. A few spots of gold loss. The lid of the receiver has a glaze crack- hard to photograph.
