You are bidding on a wooden commode that was my grandmothers. She was born in the late 1800's. The wooden top is 14 3/4" square and has a tapestry cover. Unknown if it is original. The item stands 16 1/4" tall and is in excellent shape. There is scalloping around the bottom. When you lift the first lid. You see the"pot" inside. The pot is porcelain and is in perfect shape. When you take the pot out, there is a crack in the bottom of the commode, but does not compromise the stability of the piece. The pot is removable 11" in diameter. Solid Cherry.....English Antique Furniture Eastlake dresser commode...circa 1810
This is a charming English made solid cherry antique dresser circa 1810. I acquired this from a couple who came to the United States from England. This piece is consistent with English cabinetmaking.This is made from solid cherry planks. The candle stands which flank the mirror are wonderful.The carvings and hand turned finials are beautiful. The hardware is all original except for the 2 small upper drawers which is new. All of the lower drawers have locks which work excellently with a new key. The hand cut dovetail joinery and hand chamfered drawer bottoms are beautiful. The drawer fronts are 1" thick solid cherry, there is no veneer on this entire piece.The secondary wood is poplar. The mirror glass is new.The mirror is on tilting mounts(it does not stay fixed when tilted. Just let in hang vertically) This piece has lots of battle ... morescars(nicks, dings etc) and some repairs earned over its lifetime such as dings in both side panels about the size of a"pea" The top(across the full width.left to right) has an age separation shrinkage crack which I repaired(you can still tell there was a crack despite the repair(see photo) some drawer bottoms have age shrinkage separations,there are some age shrinkage separations(cracks) in the side panels, worn edges, small stains in the top and character marks consistent with any fine antique.I refinished the top and the mirror frame, after repairing a missing piece of wood around the mirror thumb screw. The inlaid brass keyhole escutcheons are all in place. Most of the dresser has the original finish with a gorgeous patina as you can easily see in the mirror support photos etc. This wonderful piece will look beautiful wherever you decide to place it whether an entryway. Bedroom or living room.I restored all of the drawers and reinforced some internally with wood blocking.The drawers are strong, stable and they slide excellently.I t has such delicate graceful lines which sets it apart from the crowd. all the best. This spectacular chest circa 1780 is an amazing Georgian Style commode/chest of drawers When I acquired this beautiful diamond in the rough.I knew it was destined for greatness. I restored this piece from top to bottom. This is some of the most beautiful burled walnut I have ever laid eyes upon.This is a world class antique and a gorgeous work of art. You will never tire of looking at this beautiful chest, it is so rich and beautiful. The highly burled walnut veneer over solid walnut drawer fronts is exquisite. The chest is solid walnut. Other than the drawer sides,drawer bottoms and drawer backs which are solid chestnut. The left side panel is the most gorgeous walnut side panel I have ever seen, no question about it. The burling looks like a storm cloud/ball of fire.The cabinet maker was not just a craftsman of the highest order, he was ... morean artist as well. The side panels are 5/8 inch thick, cut as one plank of solid walnut.The top is solid walnut with a beautiful shaped edge. The drawer bottoms. Sides and backs are all made from solid chestnut(possibly oak)Old growth chestnut is highly sought after by wood lovers, it is virtually extinct, now being reclaimed at very high prices,these chestnut drawers that I hand rubbed a finish on, they are gorgeous. The chestnut drawers bottoms are chamfered by hand planing into the drawer sides. Cast bronze mounts, and Breche maroon marble top. It was made in Paris by the noted bronzier and cabinet maker, E. Kahn. It measures 44.5" wide, 33.75" tall and 22.25" deep, and has two drawers. Up for auction is a very nice French Bombe Commode Style Dresser. The dresser is nicely accented with bronze mounts and a mottled pink and white marble top. The dresser is made of hardwood with marquetry floral veneer work. The dresser measures 33 inches tall x 34 inches wide x 19 inches deep. The dresser is sturdy with some veneer loss. Mostly around the front left leg. The marble top is in great condition, with natural veining and russet inclusions. Bullnose-edged marble replacement tops for such dressers average $350-$450 just for the replacement top, so this is a great deal. Antique Inlaid Bombe Commode
We just purchased the contents of a Long Island. NY estate with many outstanding pieces. This one is an antique inlaid Bombe commode ca. 1840-1869 that is probably either Italian or German/Austrian. There is beautiful marquetry throughout. Framing the outer edges of the two drawers is the Greek key design. In the center overlapping both drawers is a circular floral motif. Beneath the bottom drawer is a long ribbon extending the entire length of the piece. The legs are not the usual curved legs but rather they are squared off at the base and have a spiral motif on them. On either side of the commode, there is an oval medallion centered with an urn and framed with the Greek key. The beautiful marble top is Breccia Pernicia. The large bronze handles are beautifully chased. The overall condition of the piece is excellent. There is a tiny chip ... morein the veneer where the two drawers meet and some of the finish feels a little sandy. A light French polishing would make this piece absolutely magnificent. The woodThere is a 1/4" wide ormolu panel surrounding all the inlaid wood panels AND around the drawer and the door in the middle! There are the LARGE ormolu medallion panels and on the drawer are the 2 drawer pulls as well. There are 4 large ormolu that go down all the legs to the toe of the feet. The cabinet measures 32" tall. 33 1/4" wide and 16 1/4" deep. Condition is good for an old cabinet such as this is. There are a few issues and one is a professional repair inside UNDER the drawer and it can only slightly be seen at all when drawer is in place. You would have to really look for it.
