Also note that chestnut is a rare and valuable wood; it’s not commercially available due to the blight introduced between 1900& 1908. PA, and they completely reworked them! They took out all of the glass from the lites and separated the old pieces from the new. They replaced all of the new pieces, with old pieces(many of which are no longer commercially available) and then encased them in a new, leaded skeleton. The work took weeks and cost over $900! Pr. Antique Amethyst/Clear Glass Entry Doors From Boston Brownstone Redo Vintage
Listing this evening a fantastic entranceway double door with one awesome original amethyst glass panel and one clear glass panel removed from a Back Bay of Boston Brownstone building back in the 1970's and stored ever since. For those of you unfamiliar with this type of door system. The door on the left is usually opened to gain entry. The door on the right is generally held closed with latches on the top and bottom and not opened except to bring in large pieces of furniture or other large items. The condition is excellent for doors of this age. The original brass mail slot disappeared when it was removed from the building. The doors are 83 1/4" tall and 1 3/4" thick. In the pictures it appears that one door is taller than the other but that is not the case. They are an original matched pair, I just couldn't get them to ... morestand up correctly in the snow. The door on the left is 27 3/4" wide and the door on the right is 28" wide. If you are restoring an old house these might be just the items to make a grand entranceway. The outside is a dark gray with great panels and the interior is peeling white over original varnish) The original dark amethyst privacy panel is approximately 14 1/2" x 39 1/2" and has a pebbly surface. NOTE: After listing the doors for sale I discovered a 1 1/2" crack on the side of the amethyst glass panel when I was doing a final cleaning.the glass is very old and grainy with many lines so the crack isn't obvious until you inspect it very carefully. Each door is made of either solid pine or Douglas Fir, and features 3 glass lites and 3 panels. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder ... moreand stronger than young pine. Height/Width: The heights of Doors#4. 5 and#6; and the width of Door#6 are unevenly cut. Beveled Glass Double Entry Doors. 48" x 84" x 1 3/4" Great set 80 bevels per door. Not sure of the wood but the inside is not painted as shown in pictures. Each door is approx. 24" wide. Great old brass hardware on both sides included. About 80 bevel pieces in each door and only 2 have a crack as pictured. measurements of glass only to the wood is 13 x 51 1/2" there is a wood trim/frame around the glass that measures 16 1/2" x 55" These doors I understand from previous owner are about 40 years old. There are some scratches on one of the doors probably from a pet trying to get in the house. Wonderful set of doors and I only wish I had a place to put them in my house.
