These were originally the interior panels surrounding a pair of French doors in a Stylish 1930s Town House in Toulouse. Each panel is in 2 parts and features a classic 1920s/30s Art Deco Bouquet of Flowers Featuring Roses amongst others in a basket. The detailing as can be seen is beautiful. There are as usual the odd areas of wear and a few small flaws here and there but nothing that detract from their beauty. They have a lovely Patina and have been waxed with beeswax to preserve their finish. Each panel measures approx. 16 3/4" wide x 21" tall. This salvaged library. Buffet/cupboard or cabinet door panel is typically French and nicely hand-carved. It dates to mid/late years 1800's and shows a delightful warm brown colour. The lion's head is quite impressive and spectacular, the animal is deeply raised and featured roaring and showing its dangerous teeth. It seems to have been applied to the panel, see antique screws. Beautifully detailed brass escutcheon without keyhole. You can see. And we've tried to photograph this, where the carving tool was used on the panel. There are 2 game birds in this motif. A game bird is hanging and is carved in deep relief with molding around it and molded again around the outside giving it a framed appearance. In the crook of the wing of one game bird is a baby bird or smaller bird. On the verso, it has a hook for hanging. Beautiful and interesting. This piece was probably part of a larger furniture or installation piece. The decoration implies this came from something to do with the hunt, a hunt board or hearth piece. Gorgeous. There is some superficial age cracking from the shrinking of the wood over the years and what appears loss around the foot of the bird but this does not detract from the beauty, quality and stateliness of this piece. Had we not purchased this for resale, I'd have this hanging in my home today. We will be listing the other piece which is a match to this but the frame needs to be re-tacked in to place as it slipped away from the panel whilst intransit from the auction to our home. This listing is for 2 carved wooden panel doors. They each measure 21 and 1/4 inches by 13 and 1/4 inches. They are 1 and 1/8 inches thick. They feature different carvings with a musical theme. My husband thinks they are oak doors. You can see where they used to be attached to something. a cabinet? My folks loved this style of furnishing and used these as wall hangings. Something tells me they may be of Belgian origin because we have a Belgian cabinet that matches the style of these panels. I do not know how my folks acquired them or exactly how old they are.
