Vintage Yale Door Knobs with plates -steel, copper and brass coated, hardware
This set works. I took it off an old door from my grandmother's house. I didn't strip the paint off of it but have left it in the condition I found it in. The pieces are steel(magnet sticks to them) but appear to have been coated with copper on the door knobs and brass on the plates. As you can see this was on a door that led to the outside as one knob shows more weathering then the other. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Originally. All parts were copper plated, however only traces of copper remain. The metal around one of the keyholes is slightly bent. But it looks worse in the photos than in person. Otherwise, there are the typical nicks and scratches that you would expect to find on old, used hardware, but no breaks, cracks, or gouges. Each lock was opened. Inspected, and we sprayed machine oil on and around all parts to facilitate their movement. UP FOR AUCTION IS A CORBIN MORTISE DOOR LOCK IT HAS 2 KEY HOLES AND BUTTONS AND DEAD BOLT ON SIDE, The deadbolt is thrown by the lower keyhole from either side of the door. The split spindle allows the doorknobs to rotate independently and the buttons on the lock face provide an additional independent level of security(with or without the deadbolt) Pushing one button in keeps the outside doorknob from turning(the strike will not retract) You can still open the door by the interior doorknob. With the buttons in this position you can enter the house using a skeleton key in the upper keyhole. It retracts the strike and you would simply push the door open. Pushing the other button in allows both doorknobs to rotate so the door can be opened from either side. I do not have keys for the upper or lower keyhole function. These are old door knobs. They came off the same door, one has a red copper looking patina, the other has a yellower brass like patina. They came out of my parents home which was built in the 20's, my mother doesn't remember when they were installed. It could have been the 40's or 50's. Don't know what they are made of. A magnet is attracted to them, they don't look like they are plated so they might have a steel core with brass or copper over them? They are just very nice looking old door knobs. I took pictures from different angles to try and capture the colors.

Hi. My name is Laurie, and I have a thing for antique hardware. Hi Laurie" I live in a 150 year old house. So some of it is to keep, but mainly, it is the hunt through coffee cans and cigar boxes to find grungy bits of metal that I can coax back to life that thrills me. I spend WAY more time polishing and cleaning said bits than I do on my dusty old house. Fortunately, my husband is a contractor who specializes in historical restoration, so he is patient, if not encouraging. This weeks rescue includes: 2 Knobs- Brass over copper. These have a really lovely patina. Some corrosion on the back of the knob(but I had to draw the line somewhere) There is a little copper showing through a on one knob on the inner side. They are 2-1/4" wide and 2" deep 1 Connecting Shaft with adjustable length holes 3-7/8" 2 Copper over metal ... moreBack plates measuring 7" x 2-1/4" some corrosion. And metal showing through in places. Love the detail 2 Original Screws 1 copper ring(adjustment? 1 Copper over metal Locking mechanism measuring Face: 5-1/4" x 15/16" Body 3-5/8" x 3-1/8" x 1/2" I found this set. Felt compelled to rescue it, and spent a lot of time cleaning the grime off of it. Lots. There is still some corrosion on one of the plates, but since I decided not to use it myself- I need to pass the torch on. Were I to keep it, I'd either take the plates down to metal and rub on a finish, re-plate(some fun diy methods out there) or just paint black. I leave it up to you. Note that the last photo which shows the plates and the lock face shows a little more polishing. I just couldn't leave well enough alone. So. The other photos will show them a little more tarnished. I will ship this in the most economical method possible. Making money on postage is not my goal. I pack carefully. And try to photograph everything in detail so that you know what you are getting. These items are in excellent condition. The knob with the attached face plate. I cannot get it off, has a lever but it is not attached. I have taken a close up to show the opening on the lever in order to attach it. A magnet does not stick to the knobs or levers. The toilet chain came from the same house but I could not get the toilet. The knobs measure 2 ½” and 1 ¼” across. Seven antique assorted composition doorknobs of the late 1800's and very early 1900's. Two are copper one is glass and four are porcelain. They are all in good condition although the one copper knob is missing a part that goes on the back for a shaft to slide on to. All the other knobs are in fine condition considering they are all 100 years old or more. Just think about all the hands that have grabbed these knobs. Incredible. If only they could talk right.

14 Antique Japanned Copper Wash Victorian Door Knobs 14 Matching Backplates Listed are 14 antique solid wood Victorian door knobs and 14 matching pressed japanned copper wash finish steel back plates. I removed these from a house in Upstate New York. The shanks are attached firmly. All the set screws are intact, there is some maroon paint attached and the knobs and back plates will need to be cleaned. The diameter of the door knobs is 2 1/4" approx. 1" thick. Back plates are approx. 1 5/8" wide and 5 1/2" long. Condition of all the knobs and back plates is good to very good. Antique Copper-Clad Door Knobs w/Spindle
These are definitely unusual and distinctive. They came out of an 1890's Maine cottage that was destroyed by fire. And appear to have been smoke damaged. Each measures a standard 2 1/4" wide and 2" deep. They look like they would clean up and be able to be re-purposed nicely in a renovation or restoration project.
