Ornately carved antique oak winged griffin. It is in excellent condition. I found this piece about 15 years ago in Central Wisconsin. It had been removed from an old public building that had been torn down for a shopping center. I have had it displayed in my office since then. But it is time to continue our downsizing and let someone else enjoy it. I am glad I was able to help preserve this piece.it is really nicely done. It is classic gothic style with wings, a crown and a curved tail. It is a heavy piece that weighs about 7 pounds. It appears to have been carved from three pieces of wood. The bottom has two holes that must have been used in the original mounting. Nice older pair of carved wood corbels. Brackets, or shelf holders or whatever. An unknown type of wood, but if I were guessing, I would say walnut, has that Eastlake look. Interesting pieces of carved wood. Almost 8" long, 2 7/8" wide, and 1 1/8" thick. Have holes in the back for pegs to hold this on whatever if came off of. Has no finish that I can tell. May have originally held a shelf on an old pump organ, dresser, or dining room piece, maybe even off an old mantle. Anyway, very nice. Not quite sure how old they are other than they have been around and are certainly not new. the size is*approximate 21 5/8" tall by 13 1/2" deep the bottom depth part at 8" and they are 2 3/4" wide thick. Little over 21 1/2" They are in vintage condition and are not all intact! Very nice brackets. 1-1/4 wide not including raised areas. 22-18 tall and 8 deep at bigger end 4-1/2 at smaller but it grows to about 5-3/4 if you include the radius that juts out at small end. Great for your next project. Finish isn't perfect but most is present and with a little work these will come up nicely without having to loose its original color. Pair Victorian Oak Hand Carved Corbel Lion Heads
Pair of hand carved Victorian oak corbels which were purchased at an auction in England many years ago. We've been using them as bookends. However they would be stunning used as they were originally intended. They measure approximately 8-3/8" from the lion's head to the back by 7-1/2" long by 2-3/4" thick. They are in overall great condition for the age.you can see some separation in the wood. Great antique architectural pieces to use in whatever creative way you see fit!
