Antique Mahogany Newel Post and 12' Railing - SOLID WOOD - Architectural Salvage
Available here is an antique newel post and railing. These are made of solid mahogany. No veneer here. You can't get anything like this anymore! The newel post stands almost 5' high. It is approximately 57" from floor to top of finial. It is in three pieces, a square base with a rounded stand, the rounded post and the top finial. The largest part of the square base is approximately 17.75"x17.75" There are threaded rods on the inside that connect the base and post together, the finial sits on top. There are specks of white paint around the newel post. I will let the buyer decide how to remove it. This newel post is meant to be at the bottom of a staircase. The railing is 12' long and approximately 5.5" wide. It is also made of solid mahogany. The bottom of the railing mounts flush onto the newel post. The top ... moreof the railing has a hump back that turns into a corner and mounts to the wall. There are a few places where the edges on the bottom have partially broken off. Old Gold This is a beautiful lot of very old carved wood posts with rich gilding. These are just gorgeous- could be French or Italian. Possibly Chinese- with dogwood-type blossoms and crosshatching. I don't see any sign of gesso; these appear to be all hand-carved. This set was clearly once part of something larger. Perhaps a chest or cabinet. All five posts have a backside where joints were made. Four are the same size at 21 3/8" long, the fifth is 15 5/8" long. All are about 1 1/2" in diameter. The quality of the carving is wonderful, and they are in good(though not perfect) condition, with a few nicks and losses here and there. This Antique Architectural Salvage Wood Stairway Post is in Good Salvaged Condition. The finish is in nice shape with an aged patina. There is some minor wear. A few cracks and quite a few nail holes on the side that was attached to the stairway, see my last photo. However the post still feels like one solid chunk of wood, nothing is loose. The top has a different patina and it looks like something was removed from the center but it still looks great. This old post would make a great plant stand or base for a sculpture. Gorgeous Large Primitive Antique Wood Architectural Pediment Piece Post 13 lbs I had an opportunity to go down state Illinois recently for the homecoming of my Alma Mater and shopped the wonderful sales. Barn sales and antique shops along the way. I have a huge variety of oldees for you this week- from 19th century primitives to 1950s kitsch- there’s something for everyone! Here's another show stopper today- and I don't think that my photos do it justice. It weighs actually. 13 1/2 lbs of solid wood- it's an architectural pediment of some sort- not sure where it lived in the building, but it will be yours to decide now. This is a beautiful primitive piece, with wornwornworn finish that is down to the wood in many spots, and crackled and alligatored in others. It measures 34 5/8" tall, 7" wide and 4 1/2" deep measuring ... morefrom the back to the highest point in the front. The wood of the background is dark to the point of almost black, and the raised areas either were left light on purpose, or have lost most of their finish, it's hard to tell which. If you look at photos 10, 11& 20, I'm showing a 1/4" chip, and a sliver next to it gone to the top of the wood at one end(the smaller raised end) it's right on the edge of the raised area. It looks like the top of the raised area may have been veneer, and that's what has chipped( or it just could be the wood chipped there, because, believe me, it's solid wood underneath. I'm not sure aoubt that, though, and this is the only spot that makes me question- there's no other chips that look like it may be veneer- so supersize and see what you think. That being said, there ARE other small chips to the piece, along with scrathes, scrapes, nicks, dings and cracks. It's rustic, but gorgeous and totally solid and sturdy. I'm not sure if I have it upside down or right side up in my photos( but either short end is unfinished, with holes from whenever it was in place, and the same goes for the back. This is a stateme

I have no idea in what year this particular post was put on the porch. Meaning no way for me to know whether it was an original or a replacement somewhere down the line. I only know the year the house was built, and that the post was here when we bought it. For sale: This is an antique newel post stair baluster from the Victorian era. It stands 39" tall. Has a cannonball top 5.5" in diameter, and I believe it is made of oak. It has a cracked and chipped patina and is a sand over white. Although the cannonball top has a crack it is still very solid. One side has nail holes from its original installation.see photos. Antique chestnut wood newel post 48" tall historic vintage architectural salvage
Beautiful historic/ antique chestnut wood newel post. Post was painted black previously but has been completely hand refinished. Stained and polyurethaned and is in great condition! Exact age is unknown but is at least over 100 years old and still very sturdy! The bottom corner is notched to fit over the corner of a step(see photos) The newel post measures 4 feet tall and approx. 6" wide in the center section. There is a small portion of the circular rosette missing(see last photo) but is not noticeable at all. The side shown without the rosette is the side that the handrail would attach to.

Vintage Antique Newel Post Repurpoused Wood Column Pedestal Banister Stair Case
Antique Vintage Newel Post. Was told by the person I purchased it from that it came from a pre 1900's farm house that was torn down recently. He also told me that it was oak and believes it to be the original finish. It's in really good condition for being a hundred plus years old. There are a couple of blemishes from where it was attached to the rest of the railing including one crack at the bottom. All blemishes are pictured. I will also remove all of the nails that are in the piece prior to shipping. I just wanted to show it in its barn found state. Antique ARCHITECTURAL Salvage Oak NEWEL POST with Old Chippy White Paint Size: 45 3/4" tall x 8" x 8" overall(all measurements are approximate) Description: This whimsical antique newel post will add architectural interest to your home- the possibilities are endless. These are often seen only in decorator magazines and are hard to find. Even in antique stores. This is out of a Victorian mansion in the Los Angeles area. This one is wonderful and heavy with nice thick moldings and a whimsical details. The old white paint is all perfectly time worn. Shabby and chippy. You can see the original oak wood underneath in the photos, in places where the paint is worn off. It has been indoors for all of it's life so there is no dry rot that I sometimes see on wood that has been out in the elements. Though the paint is chippy and worn ... moreit is not'shedding' as some others are. There are carved wooden ribbon applique details on 3 sides- so romantic! Please see the photos of showing the cut out notches on the bottom of the back side. They are pretty much all this way when they are removed from a stairway(see last two photos) This could easily be filled in with some old wood or you can just turn that side toward the wall as I have. Even with the notched-out area on the base it still stands alone and is quite sturdy. There is also a rough area near the top on the back side where it was removed from the banister. There are a few minor age splits on the surface of the wood that are tight and do not distract- just adds to its character. This one is flat on the top which is nice to use to display a statue or other objects. 1800's Antique Stair Ballister NEWELL POST Victorian / Eastlake Carved Wood
For your Bidding consideration in this Auction is a very early NEWELL POST in Victorian/ Eastlake Style. It is elegantly carved on all 8 sides. This came out of an Estate in Daytona. Florida and had been converted a long time ago from Stairway Newell Post to a stand holding a large Bronze Bust. You can see in the photos were it had been converted expertly back in the day. The top section is flat and judging from the work gesso or some other plaster had been used in process of affixing the flat top to the post. The original electric wire is still coming out of the base that would have been the electrical feed for an ornate bronze lamp which would have sat on top of the Newell Post. There are a few scratches/ knicks form age but overall in very nice condition. It had a set of 4 very old caster wheels on the base when I got it but due to age, ... morethey were very worn out so I removed them. Previous owner had wooden floors and the wheels, theoretically, allowed the stand to be moved more easily rather than having to pick it up. It is a very solid wood(Oak? Walnut? but I am not sure which type it is. Appears that some of the carved recesses had gilt color paint in them at some point. A very beautiful piece!
