Offered in as-found condition in a Colonial Pennsylvania farmhouse recently: 1835-1840s Forrestville Manufacturing Company large mahogany case 8 Day OGEE Clock. With gong, weight driven movement. Missing the key, and a bit of veneer in one corner. Dial face is hand painted on wood and has a section peeled off. Case is nice overall, with the usual wear expected for having survived 150+ years. Original top glass and bottom glass, which has a reverse painting entitled"View in Liverpool" Some paint loss on this, but probably reproduceable. Has the original pulleys on top. Door is fairly tight at the joints. Case is the same, save for the back board which has shrunk some with age. Overall measurements are about 29" x 15 1/4" x 4 1/4" Very very nice clock for restoration. ANTIQUE DANIEL PRATT READING MASS. WEIGHT DRIVEN EGLOMISÉ BOTTOM TABLET ~ TALL COLUMNED CLOCK! Gorgeous estate collection clock. 1835-58 period of Daniel Pratt clock manufacture in Reading. Mass. Federal style columned shelf clock with wooden works.Pratt was known for his economical"groaner works" 30 hour clocks which he provided to rural families as a marvelous alternative to telling the time by the sun. This clock has had some refurbishing.we note some fresh wood mounts for the dial.the hand made wood dial appears to be of the period but adjusted to accomodate the current movement arbors. Whether the dial is original or the movement is original, or both we do not know. The movement has fresh wood shims, so although old and an original Pratt, it may indicate replacement or at the least remounting. The exterior of the case ... moreshows the original finish, including the black columns with gold embellishment. We do have some veneer loss as you can see in our posted photos(front bottom left corner as viewed) We will provide you with a piece of wood from the era that will allow for some veneer to be cut from it and replace the existing loss. General age with some scratching here adn there is noted. Top of the case shows the traditional Pratt bell assembly, however, the bell is missing. Inside we note several mounting holes which may or may not have been used for wall mounting. The eglomise' or reverse painted glass tablet is in beautiful condition and although we see no evidence of change out, we do not know if it is original to the clock. It actually likes to be leaning a little forward to work and stay running. At close to 130 years old the fact that it still exists in any condition and runs is amazing to me. Case has dings. Clock face has paint missing please see all photos. This a great collector piece that I personally would leave as is but if you want a restoration project the bare bones of a working clock are here. Antique weight driven Ogee mahogany mantle/shelf clock. Made by Chauncey Jerome, dates to the 1830s, has signed brass movement and is being sold in"as is" condition for restoration or parts. Clock measures 25 3/4" tall x 15 3/8" wide x 4 3/8" deep. Original painted glass has been replaced with mirror many years ago, glass over face is cracked, clock face is worn, faded, case has some small veneer chips at corners and one other spot. Included are weights and other parts that were found in a bag inside the clock(see last photo) On back side of mirror is cardboard which has the following written on it"1868 April the 7 The grate snow com? 9 inches. Up for bid is an ANTIQUE NEW HAVEN MANTEL WEIGHT DRIVEN MANTLE CLOCK.RUNS BUT NO PENDULUM OR KEY. It is in overall very good condition. It does have some chips in the wood along the bottom and some scratch marks on it. The glass and the dial are in great condition. The clock does run. But very fast since I do not have the pendulum for it. The gong sounds very weak. I believe the spring for it is worn. When winding it up it feels like it's slipping. The clock itself winds up great. I have a key for a personal clock that fits this one, that's how I tested it. It measures 18" long, 7 1/2" wide, and 12" tall. I am listing it with NO RESERVE. This is an antique 19th century Seth Thomas weight driven hand wind up pendulum Ogee clock in very good overall cosmetic condition. This clock does run yet does not chime. I have pulled on the string to test that the clock does run only. However, I have not fully tested this clock. It may possibly need some mechanical restoration and a string or wire to operate the weights. Weights and pendulum are included but key is not. This Seth Thomas clock measures about 25 and 1/2 inches tall, 15 and 1/2 inches wide and 4 and 1/8 inches deep. This clock weighs about 15 pounds. Pendulum, weight, and is in working condition! This is a very rare find. There is some wear to the veneer and some cracks in the veneer on bottom part of the door(see pics) The face of the clock also has wear but is intact. Movement looks clean and the clock appears to keep time. Alarm works. The painting and glass is also intact and very nice.
