Very nice oler piece that I believe was to be a watch hutch. Had the ... moreclock in it when found at estate sale. Clock does not work but I can include. Opening is roughly 2.25" x 2.25". Measures 12.5" tall x 4" at widest x 2" at deepest. Opening has some chipping away as shown which was probably to fit clock face. There are 2 cracks on either side of opening. Also what appears to be a black ink mark. Chips and roughness to the Gothic peaks. Has wonderful patini and nice piece of solid wood. Please see all pictures and contact me with questions.

Just picked it up at an auction. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. The clock probably dates to the late 1800s to early 1900s. This grandfather clock was made by an unknown clock maker for the Bailey Banks and Biddle jewelry store in Philadelphia. PA. The clock has a great federal style to the mahogany case. The clock has been running since we picked it up at auction. It also strikes the hours on the hour and strikes once at the half hour. Has a very deep gong sound to it. So. Selling the clock in running, and striking condition. This clock could is called a grandfather or tall case clock. As it is more than 75" tall. The dark stained mahogany case on this clock looks very good. No major chips. Splits, or missing pieces that I can ascertain. This clock has a lot of fireplace or pipe smoke soot on the finish. I have wiped it down twice now, but will still need a good cleaning by the owner, so that the original wood luster can truly be appreciated. You could barely see the graining of the wood when I first started wiping it down! The case has a great design on the front of the case at the corner angles. And check out the great hood on this clock! The scrolling and even the wood finials are in place and all look proper to the clock. Amazingly these very delicate looking wood finials have made it thru intact over all these years. The metal locking latches are in place on the back of the case as well. Some drip of something from the top on the right side of the hood. See pic. Did not attempt to remove it, again we just wipe the precious items down we find. We do not give them a deep cleaning, nor do we refinish them. We sell them with the original patina condition we find them in. Again. All the wood and trim is still with the clock. Pennsylvania Item# 130401YYR21 This is a simply outstanding work of art- an American Chippendale Period Tall Case Grandfather Clock from Pennsylvania. This clock was crafted by clockmaker Jacob Diehl of Berks County, Pennsylvania. Born in 1776, Diehl was active in 1798 when he took over the shop of Daniel Rose, one of the most famous clockmakers of Reading in the period. He operated that shop until 1804 in the absence of Rose, after which he worked alone. Two examples of his work are preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City(accession numbers 1980.458& 1976.279) One of these described at length in the publication Notable Acquisitions. 1980-81. Metropolitan Museum of Art(New York, NY) ... moreThis example conforms closely to the overall form of the aforementioned example(1976.279) Giving good insight into how the finials originally would have looked prior to the current replacements. It is a very fine piece, well preserved in every way and retaining originality in almost every aspect of the clock and case. The enameled dial is a fine work with a painted rocking-ship moon phase beneath an arabic numeral calendar of 1-29(1/2) days, peaking out over two carefully detailed globes of the earth, the spandrels of the clock very crisp and bright floral works with gilt gold dots lining the arabic numeral hour dial beneath very fine pierced hour and minute hands; Jacob Diehl, Reading" is painted at the center of the dial. The broken arch hood curls in unusual"blank" rosettes. These flanked by fluted pilasters supporting the replaced finials over a projecting crown molding. The glass pane is fully original, still retaining the wavy character cherished in period glass, framed carefully in a through-tenon mortised door swinging on original pinned hinges. The sides of the hood are absent of glass, the tiny dovetails joining the corner exposed along the front edge. T

Crafted during the first years of the 19th Century and reduced during the 20th Century to give it a more desirable height for smaller homes. Entirely crafted of Golden Oak for the primary surfaces. Both in solid and veneers, it has a caramelized warmth to the finish with a fine preserved patination beneath the later shellac. Featuring a broken-arch pediment with an incredible stamped brass rosette. The hood is raised on reeded columns with brass mounts flanking a tombstone glazed-glass door over the painted dial. The door is crafted with through-tenon joinery ... moreof the secondary surfaces, covered with the thick golden oak veneers. The arch is painted with a stuffed Cornucopia, each spandrel likewise embellished with gilt highlights around Roman Numeral hour ring with Arabic Numerals bordering this in fifteen-minute intervals. The center is inscribed"James Alexander Turiff" probably the retailer of this clock in Scotland. The back of the works are impressed by the maker of the movement, Finnemore& Son, presumably the firm active in Birmingham around 1810-35. Original glazed-glass windows on either side of the works allow you to peer into the movement. The shaft has a tombstone door with a rounded lip-molding. Opening on original brass hinges to reveal the paint decorated iron pendulum and two weights. It has a lock, the key still available and functional(though bent) with the original brass escutcheon on the outside of the door. The corners of the shaft are embellished with reeded quarter-columns with turned caps, these both likely reduced along with the case. The clock rests over a plain molded base with a restrained scroll-cut apron and feet. This is a simply outstanding selection for anyone with a smaller space looking

Sold by J.J. Freeman& Co. This is an 8 day striking on the hour and quarter hour, two train movement. Our local clock expert said the clock is in excellent working condition; however, it is missing the black silent lever which needs to be replaced to be able to hear the chimes, as it is in the silent mode right now. We do have the brass bar which the silent lever would be attached to. You would need a clock expert to adjust the clock so the chimes are not on silent and/or find a replacement lever. Longcase Clock Dated 1727 8.5 Ft Tall Grandfather Long Case Tall Case Tallcase
This is what is known to collectors as a Dutch Longcase Clock made in 1727 by Jean Delfosse in Liege Belgium. It is called a Dutch Longcase because at that period of time. Belgium was under the control of the Netherlands and also under the political influence of France. This caused many small armed conflicts and local rebellions- towns were burned and looted, so few of these clocks survived. The clock stands 8 ft 5 inches in height at the peak. The workings are brass and the weights are lead. The wood is Oak. Collectors I have spoken with in England tell me this is a second generation clock. The first generation were limited to 6 ft in height. The second generation were built to order, so the original owner of the clock was someone of considerable wealth and influence to have a home with ceilings high enough to have a clock of this size made. ... moreI have conflicting estimates if this is a single day clock or a 8 day. Because if it's age. I have never attempted to start the clock in motion and I will not. I know it was in working condition 20 years ago, but the person who aquired the clock originally has passed away. The collector in England I spoke to on the phone told me Delfosse is known to have built 8 clocks during his lifetime. Other than that. Little is known as there are both Delfosse and Defosse names which seems to get mixed up in records from that era. The same collector gave me an apprasial between $6000.00-$10000.00 U.S. Dollars if it was in England. If he was able to personally examine the condition of the wood and the workings. He said he could narrow that range down, but he has no interest in trying to ship this to England due to it's age and it would be out of reason in freight charges and special packing. He was very shocked that this was located in the U.S. as normally the mass-produced grandfather clocks are found on this side of the pond. Hopefully someone on ebay recognizes the value of this clock or can provide more accurate information than what I currently have. I am not a clock expert.

The clock case meausres 77 3/4 inches tall by 17 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches deep. The clock face measures 13 1/4 inches. Constructed from mahogany, this clock is in perfect, original condition. In original as-found condition. ... moreIt’s kind of a different kind of grandfather clock, because it has a set of weights and a set of chimes that are displayed behind the beveled glass door, along with a pendulum, but the clock is truthfully a key-wind eight-day movement, which they did quite often back in those days. It just looks like a really nice, expensive clock that you can buy for a really reasonable price. It’s time and strike, and has Westminster chimes. It is eight-day movement, as mentioned, that means when it’s wound up, you can let it run for eight days without rewinding. The weights and chimes are purely decorative, but the rest of the clock is very real. It has an empire colonial style case with pillars coming down the sides, a crown molded broken arch top with a center ball, which most likely had a spear on it at one time but it was removed. Behind the cutout glass door, there is a presentation tag that says it is going to a Wayne Richards from Ethel Richards, for Christmas 1917. The brass engraved face or dial has its original numerals and everything is intact and in good shape, and it does say it has a German set of works and was sold by Breitinger and Sons, Inc. out of Phi

C1920 Herschede Model 86 Mahogany Case 9 Tube Tall Case Hall Grandfather Clock
This auction is for a Herschede Model 86 Nine Tube Hall Clock. It stands a touch over 92" 7'8" I'm not an expert on Herschede clocks. But I located the following markings on the case and movement: the movement has a serial number, 11312, which from what I can find out dates the clock to 1920 or 1921. The back insert with the green fabric is marked on the frame 86 and 18. The case is marked 18 and 86 and 554(the last one is hard to read and could be wrong) The inside of the very top board of the clock is also marked 18 and 86. The face bears a small plaque indicating that it was retailed by a jeweler from Hagerstown, Maryland. The clock is fresh out of an estate. I bought it in Salisbury, MD on Saturday. It is currently running in my garage. Some of the little strings that hold the tubes need to be tightened to make the hammers ... morestrike at the correct position on the tube. There is some very minor wear/abrasions to the dial as photographed. And some very minor rust to the flimsy black pieces that hold the hammers. The interior of the movement looks very clean to me. There are some very minor scratches to the beveled glass panels. The access doors to the movement on the side as well as the larger on the rear, all retain their original green fabric, with staining and one tiny hole to one of the side panels. I have the original keys. Winder, weights, tubes, and pendulum as shown, all in good order. I am having trouble getting the main door to lock, but the side movement doors function well. Case in original finish with some scuffs and abrasions as you would expect, I have shown some in the photos. This is most noticeable along the very top of the clock, around the feet, and some minor wear around the keyhole to the main door as well. I think almost all of these could be concealed with a little bit of stain, but I'll leave that up to the buyer. The triangular crest is mounted with a gilt metal classical scene of a Putto in a chariot, leading horses through the heavens. This piece lifts from the top over round dowels. The clock case is in two parts, the lower pedestal and the upper clock case. The clock case is framed in two tapered pillars, each capped by Egyptian masks over anthemion mounts over tiny gilt feet at the bottom of the pillars. My clock man told me that he thinks it's an Elliot movement, it has a Roxbury style inlaid case with ogee bracket feet, it has a fancy brass dial with a hand painted scene and moon dial, made for the Bigelow& Kinnard Company[B&K were the Tiffany's of Boston] both Elliot and Durfee were premier clock maker from England of the time, they both would ship some movements to the U.S. and have cases made over here for the american market, the case is made of mahogany or walnut with an inlaid flower urn at the bottom and a rope inlay around the outside with fan inlay in the corners, there is a fan or shell inlay design at the top of the tombstone shaped middle door and rope inlay around the glass, the bonnet has ... morepin wheel inlay in the ends of the scroll at the front top, it stands approx. 97" to the top of the center finial, there are 3 period style brass finials at the top and fluted columns on each side of the bonnet as well as on each side of the center section, and they each have brass plinths at the top and bottom of them, this case was made in the style of a period american clock, this is a 9 tube clock, 8 for the tunes and 1 for the strike, it plays two different chimes Westminster chimes and Whittington chimes and both have a great bold tone, they strike on every quarter hour, it also has an on and off chime lever and an on and off strike lever so you can make either or both silent, both the dial and the movement are marked Bigelow and Kinnard of Boston and the movement is dated also May 6th 1902 No. 603303& made in London, The maker did not put his name on the movement perhaps by request of B&K, there are 3 very heavy brass weights, the larger one is about 60 lbs, the case is made in the style of an early american case, the key is part iron and part brass with a wood handle, you can bid on this clock with confidence. A single weight would run both time and strike. The clock has old chains and pulley for the weight. The clock face, movement and seat board appear original to each other. Herschede 1915 Gothic Tall Case Grandfather Clock. 7 Tube Westminster Chime. Signed by premier maker. Herschede of Cincinnati, Ohio, this 7 tube chiming clock in the Gothic manner is all original when they won a Gold Medal at the Pan American Exhibition or World's Fair in 1915. The famous brass movement has been cleaned and oiled. It keeps accurate time and plays either the familiar Westminster or the Canterbury chime tunes on the quarter hour, also counting the hour on sonorous nickel tubular chimes. The dial has gold plated numerals plus filigree in the center. The chapter or numeral ring has spots in the silver finish, see photos. Controls for silent or strike are on the sides of the underlying brass plate. Solid mahogany. I have up for sale a wonderful vintage/ antique circa early 1900s New Haven Clock Co Miniature Tall Case/ Grandfather Clock. The clock case stands approx 16-3/4" tall. Made of mahogany and other mixed inlaid woods. The movement made by New Haven. I believe this to be an original unit- if its a marriage its a solid one. The true color of the finish is much darker than my pics represent. I had to brighten them or you would not be able to see the inlay. More brownish. Not so red brown. The case is very attractive as you can see. Having a wonderful form featuring inlaid woods. The clock can be either wall hung or sat on a shelf, mantel, etc. There are a few imperfections which I have noted in the condition report as well as shown in the pics.
