Offered in as-found condition in a Colonial Pennsylvania farmhouse recently: 1835-1840s Forrestville Manufacturing Company large mahogany case 8 Day OGEE Clock. With gong, weight driven movement. Missing the key, and a bit of veneer in one corner. Dial face is hand painted on wood and has a section peeled off. Case is nice overall, with the usual wear expected for having survived 150+ years. Original top glass and bottom glass, which has a reverse painting entitled"View in Liverpool" Some paint loss on this, but probably reproduceable. Has the original pulleys on top. Door is fairly tight at the joints. Case is the same, save for the back board which has shrunk some with age. Overall measurements are about 29" x 15 1/4" x 4 1/4" Very very nice clock for restoration. I don't know much about running condition; I ... moreput a bit of back pressure on the gong side and it cycled through just fine, the time side made the verge tickatickaticka. Door latch is working. Lower glass insert is reverse painted and has a name in pencil on the back" Annie Glass" which is in very good condition. The wood dial is very good shape. The majority of the label is intact and legible. The brass movement inside is marked Chauncey Jerome. New Haven Conn. USA. Overall measurements are 25 1/2" high x 15" wide. 4 1/2" deep. Large Wooden veneer"OGEE" Shelf Clock with weights. Pendulum and winding key- Running and Striking well. The gorgeous wooden case has a bright veneer in reasonable nick. There are two main damaged spots shown in the photos. The back is a replacement as must be the inside label although it looks for all the world original. But the door is still strong and opens and closes nicely. This one is straight out of the Cowboy movie"High Noon" I reckon. The front glass door has its original picture painting and the dial too is in good nick. Everything else is as you see it too. In good condition indeed for its age. And what looks like the original movement- perfect simplicity- has been cleaned and oiled. That is working very well. Looks great too. It's been a long way since it came out of the factory in the USA over 100 years ... moreago. Zoom in on the HD photos to check it out the normal sort of damage for its age which gives it character. This clock is not only classy it works extremely well with a nice clear single cathedral gong counting out the hours. It is supplied with pendulum and its rope winding key which winds up the two weights over the two cute original little wooden pulleys that sit loosely in the top. These simple OGEE clocks are very reliable running and the clock enthusiast will love watching the poetry of the world's simplest movement as there are no springs. Antique weight driven Ogee mahogany mantle/shelf clock. Made by Chauncey Jerome, dates to the 1830s, has signed brass movement and is being sold in"as is" condition for restoration or parts. Clock measures 25 3/4" tall x 15 3/8" wide x 4 3/8" deep. Original painted glass has been replaced with mirror many years ago, glass over face is cracked, clock face is worn, faded, case has some small veneer chips at corners and one other spot. I have pulled on the string to test that the clock does run only. However, I have not fully tested this clock. It may possibly need some mechanical restoration and a string or wire to operate the weights. Weights and pendulum are included but key is not. If I am reading correctly online as I try to learn about this piece that just came out of an estate here in Hollywood This is an OGEE(OG) model in rosewood and it looks to have been made in the 1840's( That's pretty cool if it's true-especially in light on what amazing shape it's in. EARLY, ORIGINAL ZINC DIAL FROM AN OGEE STYLE CLOCK Judging from the heaviness of the dial and the style of the corner decorations I am pretty sure this came from a fairly early ogee style clock. It also has a fairly well raised chapter ring as occurs in many earlier style dials. The condition is very good with the original paint and just a bit of loss at the corners. The large central opening was no doubt intended to show off the modern brass movement of the time. The dial is 8 ½ inches square. The distance across the winding holes is 3 1/8 inches while the distance from the center arbor to a winding hole is about 1 7/8 inches.
