The shape is the classic rococo key hole shape with glazed door to the front and glazed panels to the side. Allowing the ormolu pendulum to be seen swinging within. Inside the case. The rear door and the floor of the case are also decorated with Boulle work. The Ormolu mounts(Doré Bronze or fine gilded brass/ bronze) are finely modelled and crisply chased with a lovely clean and bright original gilding. To the top is a beautifully large and flamboyant rococo finial. The dial is ormolu mounted with 24 individual enamel cartouches for the hours and minutes and one to the centre which is signed for the Paris retailer. Binet&Thuret. Beautiful and original French Boulle and red shell mantle clock desirable size standing 16" tall. 9" wide and 5" deep. Clock shows very well with a antique patina to all brass and ormolu. Clock has not been cleaned and polished but the brass inlay has a nice warm patina and the shell has a nice deep red color which is accomplished by years of cleaning with soft rags and not harsh brass cleaners. Take note of the etching of all brass inlay which enhances the visual depth and appearance of the intricate boulle work. The face is enamel with a bronze mask and both are near perfect in condition. The front has a glass viewing panel to observe the original starburst pendulum. Both sides and front are completely covered with boulle work. All gilded bronze ornaments around the edges are present. There is a minimal lost of the boulle decoration. The clock had two names one associated with the maker of the body Roussel A Paris. French mantel clock with tortoise and brass inlayed, carved ebony and gilt engraved bronzes. The original engraved brass dial stands on velvet. The mouvement is not original and has been removed during the Napoleon the 3rd period, it works, the hours barrel is blocked, it needs a good cleaning. All the gilt bronze are originals and in good condition only the urn vase on the top is lightly twisted, a part of shell tortoise is missing( we have a second part) one brass strip is missing. The case needs to be glued and the glass is broken on the left side. The clock comes with its original key and pendulum. 22" high 12 3/8" width 5 3/4" depth. This wall mounted clock has a marble face with gold Dore framed enameled Roman numeral characters. The case is hinged and opens from the bottom so you can wind and access the atcual clock. The lid has a support to retain the door in an open position. Boulle technique of the inlay is all the finest brass work with nicely colored enamel work reoccurring through the thyme. We received this in running condition but this will still be serviced by our clock man before we ship it to you. by Admyrauld Paris ~ French- Circa 1750 ~. ~~ Excellent condition. Fully working ~~. A rare and beautiful 18th century Boulle marquetry bracket clock in lovely original condition. It is Rococo in style. Waisted case decorated in première partie. Brown shell veneer delicately inlaid with intricate brass foliate scrolls. It is mounted in finely made ormolu(mercury fire gilded bronze) The clock features its original verge escapement and most likely its original winding key. To the top is a cherub torch bearer. Seated on a globe, bringing enlightenment to the world. The clock is glazed to three sides allowing the pendulum to be seen swinging within the case. To the front door is an apron mount depicting a cherub with a basket of flowers. The door is locked to the right hand side with an original iron key. The floor of the case is veneered ... morewith chequered shell and brass to produce a trompe l’oeil effect. Beautiful and elaborate Boulle work also decorates the inside of the back door. The clock sits upon elaborate scrolled feet with goddess masks. The bracket is original and features goddess masks applied to the corners and contra-partie boulle work to the three sides. The large dial is mounted with 12 individual blue on white enamel cartouches with foliate cast centre and the original finely cut blued steel hands. The fine French movement is by Admyrauld of Paris, most likely the father Louis Henri Admyrauld who is listed in Tardy(with the spelling of Admyrault) as becoming master in 1724 and moving to rue de la C omedie- F rancaise in Paris in 1748. It is of excellent quality. A five pillar movement with original verge escapement that runs nicely. It strikes a large and most likely original bell underneath the removable top of the case every hour and half. We have fully overhauled and tested the movement, it runs for 8 days. it is complete with probably the original iron key complete with a Sotheby's lot number from 1994.
