The eagle head on the top has been broken off. The lower glass has a red building with"Ye Upholsterer Betsy Ross" There are four people at the door.the woman is holding an American flag. The key is included. As I am typing this. I'm waiting to see if the chimes work. The pendulum is going back and forth, ticking and tocking. Both hands are moving fine. There is a hand written receipt that came with the clock. I have no idea what date the receipt is from. But it looks like it had an overhaul or cleaning at some point. The perfect condition beautifully aged case is made of solid mahogany with decorative brass side elements. The spectacular part is the mint condition colorful reverse painted glass inserts! Up for your consideration is a Gilbert Banjo Wall Clock. It has a beautiful wood grain finish with a painted floral design. It has been converted to be electric. However the cord is somewhat short and will require an extension. Made in the USA in Winsted, Conn. Measurements are 32 1/2" tall x 10 1/4" at its widest point. Condition is good considering its age. There is a quartz movement added in at a later time, as well as the additional feature of a working thermometer! This vintage clock was crafted in Germany for import to the Westwood Chadwick company of Paterson, NJ. The case has all of the classical designs. Such as the swan necked harp on the bottom cartouche, and the stunning details engraved around the outskirts of the thermometer casing and the face of the clock. It has its original glass face cover, hinged, and a removable backing that allows access to the clock movement. Somewhere along the line it has had a Quartz battery pack movement installed. This item weighs a hefty 10.6 lbs. and the stands 30.25 inches high. It is stamped in two places indicating Westwood- Chadwick Paterson, NJ. and on the bottom of the face it is stamp Made in Germany. From the estate of a clockmaker. Antique Magnificent Super-sized New Haven banjo clock with great motif! Has a Sticker on the back of the clock case which says it was a 30 day Willard! Looks like this was originally brass works but someone electrified it! So does not include original works! Decent antique condition. Case has a fair share of nicks and dings as expected with a clock this age but nothing significant. Eagle ornament has a broken wing but easily replaceable! The clock face has significant fading in the numerals as shown in photos. The art in the center panel looks original and does have a significant amount of crazing and some paint loss. Being sold as is- project clock. Clock seems to be currently running(as electrified) but a Clock restorer could probably get this clock up and running to its original state(by replacing electric ... morewith brass works or just keep as is) with some effort! Antique E. Howard No. 2 Regulator Wall Clock Banjo Type Cherry Case no reserve
A fresh estate find. selling to the highest bidder at no reserve. a full 45 1/2 inches tall. This is a very large American weight driven banjo type wall timepiece. Provenance: This particular clock once hung at Roebling. New Jersey at the Roebling Steel factory near Trenton. Roebling was famous for making steel supporting cables for suspension bridges all over the US. Google" roebling steel" and you will see" About 154.000 results" This clock is unsigned by the maker but is nearly identical to The E. Howard No.2 regulator except this one has a seconds bit like the No. 1 regulator. Very unusual indeed. Over the years I have bought and sold many E. Howard. Howard& Davis and even a couple of similar John Posley regulators but never have come across one just like this one with in the No.2 size AND a seconds bit. The case ... moreis made of cherry. Refinished long ago as these E. Howard type regulators were normally cherry with grain painting to resemble rosewood. The original painted dial is made of a zinc alloy, has a just few flakes and seems to have never been altered. The mechanism is original to the case has not been serviced in quite some time, yet seems to want to run; also, the precision movement attaches to the case with one heavy duty iron screw reminiscent of the way some of the very early banjo clocks were supported. The pendulum stick is wood and actually is made from a very old yardstick, likely done by one of the former repairmen who left a couple notes inside. more about that below. The cast pendulum(lead or lead zinc alloy) is covered with brass to the front as is typical of mid 19th century workmanship. The glass for the throat and for the dial both seem original and have matching ripples, waves and bubbles. due to worn away flanges on the throat frame, there are several screw added to holt the frame to the case. The backboard has a few bits of old paint along the edges as the painters did not move the clock prior to refreshing the wall. Lower glass obviously replaced about 40 or so

Three years later, the Jerome firm went bankrupt and in April of 1856 the New Haven Clock Company raised an additional $20,000 and purchased the Jerome operation. By 1860. The firm employed 300 men and 15 women and was producing about 170,000 clocks a year. In 1866, the old Jerome factory was destroyed by fire, but a new brick factory was soon built which survives today with many additions. Their working force had increased to 460 men, 52 women and 88 children by 1880 and nearly half a million dollars worth of clocks were produced that year. Non-jeweled pocket watches were added to the line that year and were offered until the 1950's. New Haven had trade connections with Jerome& Co. Ltd. An English sales firm which continued business independently after the bankruptcy of the Jerome Manufacturing Company in 1856.
