Beautifully modelled in crisp, white marble mounted with ormolu(finely gilded brass/ bronze) The clock movement is held aloft in a gilded drum by 4 white marble pillars with floral swags between. The ormolu pendulum is visible swinging below. Between the pillars is a charming figure of Cupid, carrying his torch to light the flame of love. To the top is a pair of love birds with a flaming torch é and a quiver of arrows. Seated amongst a swag of roses. The swags and love birds are a darker colour. Contrasting nicely with the ormolu and the white marble. The candelabra are conforming in style with three lights and arms modelled as ornate foliage with mythical creatures. ... moreThe dial is enamel on copper with delicate floral swags between the numerals and finely fretted gilt brass hands. The clock case is a real beauty with a rich ornate design, which has been finely molded. It is highly unusual to come across such a large and elegant antique. Solid cast bronze, and the Green and cream Onyx stone workings and in my opinion to be of museum quality. I think there is a much bigger story here. If I were to guess I would think it was made for a specific person and of Notability.
