The producer, Artis Wodehouse, used the Yamaha Disklavier to convert player-piano rolls keyed by Gershwin into modern-day digital format. Life in The Army, in the Departments of Virginia. And the Gulf including Observations in New Orleans by Rev. J. Chandler Gregg- Philadelphia. 1866- First Edition- Condition: Solid Copy. Rebound in a leather-textured cloth. Gilt title on spine. Text has some age spotting, and few margin marks. Mostly in light pencil. 271 pages. Over 45 full page illustrations. Frontis. One of only 2 works on the 127th Pennsylvania according to Dornbush's Bibilography of Civil War Books. An uncommon title. The 127th PA was one of the Nine Month Regiments recruited in the summer of 1862. Also known as"The Dauphin County Regiment" the 127th mustered in Harrisburg in August of 1862. In the 9 months they served. The regiment lost 35 men. They were at The Battle of Fredericksburg in December of 1862, part of the Chancellorsville Campaign in April- ... moreMay 1863, Maryes Heights. Salem Heights, and Banks' Ford in May 1863, and mustered out May 29th. 1863. The first 98 pages speak of serving with the unit during its time of enlistment. The rest of the book are Gregg's memoirs of service as a Hospital Chaplain in New Orleans in 1864. He writes of The Rebels. Slaves, General Butler, the Officer's General Hospital at the St. James Hotel. Several Cemeteries, The First Colored Regiment. And much more. Gregg penned his memoir in 1866. While the thoughts and images were still fresh in his mind. He left New Orleans in July of 1865. So this book was written within a year of his close of service. Too often. Memoirs are written many years later- when time and outside information can cloud or obscure the facts of the time. Gregg's memoir is not such a work- it is a true Civil War memoir. Splendid Gauffered edges on all sides(certainly one of the most beautiful examples of this binding art I have seen in a long time) The Natural History is an early encyclopedia published circa AD 77–79 by Pliny the Elder. It is one of the largest single works to have survived from the Roman Empire to the modern day and purports to cover all ancient knowledge. The Natural History was one of the first ancient texts to be printed. In 1469, and over two hundred editions had been produced by the end of the nineteenth century. Translations in various languages had already appeared by the Middle Ages, making Pliny's"treasure house" of knowledge widely available. Advances in scholarship and scientific knowledge were slow to displace Pliny as an authority. Renaissance scholars, encouraged by the rediscovery of ancient Greek scientific and other texts, subjected the Natural History to more critical scrutiny, but travelogues and geographical works still described and illustrated encounters with Dog-Heads, Umbrella-Feet, Amazons and the rest. This lot is pre-owned and all books have been read; the books are rated OT for Older Teens 16+. The books appear to have been read once and treated fairly gently; some of the books have minor shelf wear at the edges of the covers& corners of the bindings. Volume 4 has some light warping to the bottom of the book that is most noticeable on the back side. Please note that these books are all in English. But they are set up in the traditional Japanese Manga form. This means that you read them from right to left. The opposite way of how American books are read. Start at the opposite end of the book and read each panel from right side to left side, ... morestarting at the top right. Each book comes with a gentle reminder of this set-up on the back page(which would be the front page in an American style book) All of the books are certainly in good reading condition for more fun& adventure!
