And with an antique finish– like an old copper penny. The clear glass shade has some lovely irregularities. Like small bubbles. Note also the nice copper rim to the shade bottom– a protective device. The shade is open at the bottom to help ease with installing a bulb. The fixture is scaled for a small foyer or hall. But can also be used as a porch light. The fixture is. Of course, in mint condition. DETAILS: The fixture accepts one standard base 60W bulb. COLOR: Copper with patina. Frosted white glass. SIZE: The fixture is 10-inches high. I’m very pleased to offer this rare circa-1950s Duplexalite! But what. You may ask, is a Duplexalite? The Miller Company created a fixture they dubbed Duplexalite. I sell a number of these wonderful fixtures each year(see link below) There is a wide variety in terms of colors. Patterns, and details, but each Duplexalite comprises a single 300W socket, a glass bottom shade, and a large metal shade above. The fixtures throw a lot of light UP, and thus a highly diffused, flattering light quality is the result. You can even find Duplexalites in the White House! However. This Duplexalite is really rare. I have never before offered one so simple. And believe the fixture to be a last generation and dating from circa-1950. Well, I just had to have it! A hidden ring holds the glass bottom shade. The larger metal shade simply sits on the ring. As mentioned. The fixture accepts a whopping 300W bulb(Mogul base) The metal shade retains its original painted finish. And this is a pale beige. The metal components have a slightly coppery finish(also original) The heat from the bulb burned off this finish on the socket housing. It seemed foolish to refinish it, so I simply polished the brass. This will patina down. The fixture is now 37-inches long(and 16-wide) I cannot make it longer. I’m very pleased to offer this extraordinary. Eames-era pendant fixture by the famous Gill Glass of Philadelphia! Gill Glass& Fixture Company was located on Amber Street in Philadelphia. And occupied most of the block between East Tioga and East Venango Streets. The factory backed up against rail ... morelines. As was common, and there would have almost certainly been a rail spur leading directly to Gill loading docks. The Gill buildings are extant, although they look a lot less attractive than they did as pictured, proudly, in Gill catalogs. The immediate area around the factory was all housing(and still is) and it can be assumed that many of these homeowners worked for Gill– an easy commute. All this seems like an ancient time, a lost age far, far away when America actually made stuff. Quality stuff. Too. And when people didn’t have long commutes to work, and when railroads were powerful and important. Sigh. I’ve collected Gill Glass for years now and have long admired the quality of their fixtures and high style. But normally I come across Gill fixtures from the 1930s and 1940s. And have never before offered this fixture. The fixture is also wondrously original and retains its canopy(with a Gill sticker) The six white glass shades look simple enough but when you hold them in your hand they are immediately recognizable as being beautifully crafted. The glass is thick. There is a swivel joint just under the canopy. This helps the fixture from being damaged if struck. And a
