Antique 1920s vintage Fanny Physician stoneware miniature Chamber Pot novelty NR
Hello! Thank you for joining us in order to preview an exceptionally scarce and distinctive. Antiquarian miniature, making for a wonderful dollhouse accent, small for the bathroom knick-knack shelf or interesting display item for the antique science and medicine collection. Offered here is an original(circa 1920) miniature stoneware chamber pot, showing a shiny gold interior and gilded FANNY PHYSICIAN namesake across the front of the pot. I do not know the exact history behind the miniature chamber pot; having procured the keepsake this past Summer at a New England estate where the majority of items dated anywhere between 1880-1940. The miniature shows no maker's marks. A stout little pot with nice shiny glazing, measuring 1" height x 1 1/4" diameter at the rim. The Fanny Physician has a great handle as well. The antiquarian ... moreminiature may have been a premium from some sort of treatment for constipation? The chamber pot miniature is in excellent condition, showing no unsightly age indications. The Fanny Physician" lettering is not perfect; where it was obviously hand painted in miniature. A great accent for any collection. Marks on this piece indicate that it was made between 1878 and 1887 by Clarke Pottery. Burslem. It is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks, breaks or fractures. Glazed Stoneware Chamber Pot
Glazed Stoneware Chamber Pot Antique stoneware chamber pot/slop jar as they used to say in old Kentucky. The one we had when I was little was enameled metal. This one is made of the same stuff as the stoneware crocks, has a wire bale that is pretty rusty with a wooden handle. There are no chips. Cracks, breaks or repairs that I see. Stuck on the bottom of it are pieces of an old newspaper. Unfortunately I don't see a date. It needs a good cleaning. It had been sitting in a barn for quite a while. It's just mud inside. Pottery Stoneware Chamber Pot Slop Bucket Metal Bale Wooden Handle
This is a vintage pottery or stoneware chamber pot or more accurately slop bucket. It measures. Not including the handle, 9" tall by about 9 1/4" in diameter across the top. This is made of a heavy pottery substance and the unglazed bottom rim looks like a crockery material. It has an overall pattern molded into the body of the bucket but there are the customary flaws as was common in common everyday pieces. There are a couple of stress lines that seem to affect the glaze only on the outside in photo two you can see the worst one. There is also one in the outside bottom and a small one inside. These lines DO NOT CARRY THROUGH to the opposing side of the pottery piece. There are also excess clumps of clay in the design that have been glazed over and small bubbles that have popped in the glaze during the firing process. Please zoom ... morein and look at all the photos closely. It also has some major chips around one handle on the outside"ear" that holds the wire in place, see photo 5. The wire handle is still intact and functioning so it really hasn't created a major problem. The handle is wooden and has been painted black and has lots of wear to the paint from everyday use. The outside rim of the pot also has some of the glaze rubbed off from the wire rubbing against it. It has no other chips, cracks, crazing or stains. Pottery Stoneware Porcelain Chamber Pot with Lid Marked Virginia
This is a vintage pottery. Porcelain or stoneware chamber pot with lid. It measures, not including the lid, 5 1/2" tall by about 8 1/4" in diameter across the top and 10" overall at the longest point including the handle. This is made of a heavy pottery substance and the unglazed bottom rim is white like porcelain material. It has an overall pattern molded around the lower part of the pot of a sort of interlocking scallop. The lid has acanthus leaves around the rim edge and the same interlocking scallop design as the lower part of the pot. The handle is molded to look and feel almost like a bent stick or tree limb. There are some small bubbles that have popped in the glaze during the firing process, see photo 7. There are also visible stilt marks on the inside of the chamber pot from the stilts used in the kiln to keep it off ... morethe bottom of the kiln. There is overall tight crazing. There is one deep cut near the rim. This does not go through to the inside, see photo 6 and a drop of white paint to the upper left of that in the same photo. There is a black touch mark under the clear glaze on the outside of the pot where someone had a smudge on a finger touched it and then put it in the kiln. It is inside the outer handle. It is signed in sepia colored paint"Virginia" on the underside bottom. I date this from the early 1800's to 1899 because of the mark being signed only"VIRGINIA" and could possibly date to the civil war period. Please zoom in and look at all the photos closely. The underside of the lid rim has an excess piece of clay that is glazed over and fired on. See photos 9& 10. Original antique chamber pot. The bottom is mark Utah. White pottery and clear glaze with tight overall crackle crazing. At one time it was cold painted over the glaze. OUR ANCESTORS WOULD BE SHOCKED. Long before there were the white‘thrones’ in our houses for those who had to‘GO. the only thing people had were the‘outhouses, but that didn’t help when it was nighttime and no one wanted to‘go’ outside. So they used a pot, called The Chamber Pot, which was called that because it was used in their chamber or bedroom at night, then emptied in the morning, and stowed until needed again the next night. Shown is an antique white stoneware chamber pot that has a lid, oh yes, very necessary at the time, thick walls, and a metal and wooden handle. The pot measures 9 inches wide at the top rim, 10.50 inches at the widest part of the pot, and about 8.75 inches depth. With the lid on, it measures 11.75 inches. The pot has a design around the exterior side but it’s hard to say just what the design is. The lid has gold edging around the rim of the lid and on the lid’s handle. The condition of this vintage piece is good considering the age and usage of this item. Was it dropped or did someone just too heavy and in a hurry to sit down cause the three stress hairline cracks in the pot. These hairline cracks are located around the rim and are approximately 2.50 inches long and appear to go through to the other side. Antique 100 Year Old White Stoneware Chamber Pot Bathroom Decoration or Storage
OUR ANCESTORS WOULD BE SHOCKED! Long before there were the white‘thrones’ in our houses for those who had to‘GO. the only thing people had were the‘outhouses, but that didn’t help when it was nighttime and no one wanted to‘go’ outside. So they used a pot, called The Chamber Pot, which was called that because it was used in their chamber or bedroom at night, then emptied in the morning, and stowed until needed again the next night. Shown is an antique white stoneware chamber pot that has a lid(oh yes. Very necessary at the time) thick walls, and a metal and wooden handle. The pot measures 9” wide at the top rim. 10-1/2” at the widest part of the pot, and about 8-3/4” depth. With the lid on. It measures 11-3/4. The pot has a design around the exterior side but it’s hard to say just what the design is. The lid has two areas painted in pink one ... morea young girl sitting in a nature scene and the other of two young boys talking to each other. The lid has gold edging around the rim of the lid and on the lid’s handle. The condition of this vintage piece is good considering the age and usage of this item. Was it dropped or did someone just too heavy and in a hurry to sit down cause the three stress hairline cracks in the pot? These hairline cracks are located around the rim and are approximately 2-1/2” long and appear to go through to the other side. Here we have a 19th c. P. Holdcroft P. H. Co. Stoneware Brown Transferware Chamber Pot"CUBA" It measures 5 1/4" tall and 8 3/4" in diameter at the opening. There are no chips or flakes. There is a surface crack on the inside(pictured) that can be seen and felt but doesn't go all the way through. There are pock marks. Scratches and staining on the inside as well. There are a couple of chips on the edge of the lid. The largest being appx 3/8 of an inch(See Photo) There is also some defects in the glaze, some of the glaze was thin on the decorations, handles and edge of lid areas when the piece was made and likely burned off in these places during the firing process. There is also some discoloration in the glaze on the back and bottom(See Photos) The piece has a very nice crazing on the glaze. This is a nice heavy item, appx. 6+ lbs.
