Up for bid is a rare Minton chamber pot. This pattern is extremely rare. I could not find another anywhere on the web. Pattern T864. Flat Black background with hand painted roses with leaves. Rimmed in gold. In extremely good condition for its age. Measures 9" in diameter without the handle and is 5" high. Wonderful piece. Purchased over 40 years ago at an auction in England. This Antique Chamber pot is in absolutely great condition considering its age(there is a fine hairline crack in the lid) I am not an expert on antiques or chamber pots. Gracefully draped scrolling garlands of roses and bas-relief armorial styled shields between the daisy clusters, all laid over a pale oyster cream white ground. Chamber Pot Is Hallmarked In Teal(Blue-Green) On The Bottom As Follows: TRENT CROWN DOUBLE CIRCLE; CROWN* SEMI-PORCELAIN* ROPE ICON IN INNER CIRCLE W. ADAMS& SONS ENGLAND Per Kovel’s: William Adams& Sons Ltd. ~ Tunstall& Stoke. Staffordshire, England ca. 1879– ca. 1900 +(1769-present) Member of Wedgwood Group} Made before the tariff act of 1891 and per English law. Before 1887” Approximate Dimensions and Condition: Diameters: top diameter of 8 3/8” and a base diameter of 5.75” Handle extension: 1.75” Height: 5” Weight: 3.25 ... morelbs. Condition: near perfect. With no damage that I can find, other than a few very light surface scratches, commensurate with age. See next line entry& photos. Crazing: surprisingly I see none. Not even through a magnifying glass, but there is one small 1/8” x 1/4” area located ¾” down from the top rim and on the side almost opposite of the handle side that is pale beige toning. Flaws: no chips. Hairlines or cracks and glaze is smooth and glossy, with no roughness, other than the partly glazed base rim. Handle: firmly attached with pooled glaze at the upper junction· Firing flaws: There are a few of the usual firing flaws of glaze bubbles and tiny pin sized specks of misplaced transfer ink. Hallmark: printed in teal and surrounding three(3) spots are the stilt marks. Not flaws I believe I have verbally described any issues that I feel and see. I am trying to downsize a little. I have quite a few antique chamber pots and am going to list a few this week. This one is a pretty white pot with pink roses cascading from a basket held with blue ribbons. And little rose accents on the side, and a smaller version on the back(SEE PHOTOS) Measures: 9 1/2" across plus 2" for handle) x 5 1/2" deep. This chamber pot looks great with a flowering plant inside! Overall EXCELLENT condition: This pot has very little crazing in the glaze. A few little pock marks inside bottom, and very little faded gold trim. There are no cracks or chips. There is some roughness(about 1/4" on the top rim.you can feel it, but its not too noticable. Up for auction is an Early Edwin M. Knowles China Co. Semi Vitreous Chamber Pot Pitcher. Marked on bottom 810. No chips, cracks on the pitcher but there is crazing which does not take away from its beauty! The gold trim does show wear for its age. The Lid is original(rare to also still have the lid) and also has crazing along with two chips and the handle top has been repaired(see pics) and shows rust like marks underneath. Antique Chamber Pot by George Jones & Sons England with Blue Trim and Pink Roses
This is a chamber pot that dates from 1873 to the early 1920's. The mark on the bottom says"Crescent 1st Quality& Sons England" There is also a hand painted number: 21836' that may be the pattern number. The mark on the bottom was used starting in 1873-1874 by George Jones& Sons in Staffordshire England. And used up until the early 1920's. This chamber pot can be described as having pink roses on an off white background with cobalt blue and gold trim. There is crazing. But no chips. There is a hairline crack on the inside lip of the pot that measure approximately 1.5 inches, but the crack does not go through to the outside of the pot. I have documented this in the photographs above. The pot measures 8 3/4 inches in diameter at the top.
