Very Old Warranted Ironstone Chamber Pot White With Coat of Arms Mark on Bottom
This is an original"Warranted Ironstone China" chamber pot. It is marked as such in black underthe glaze along with a Crest that consists of a shield(that looks Amercian) with stripes on the lower half of the shield and stars on the top part of the shield. Then the shield has two heraldic lions standing on the side of the shield on either side. There is some design above the shield but I can't make out what it is and a banner below the feet of the lions. It is white ironstone with a design molded in the outside sides and a flat top rim with a handle that has a curcly coming off the top of it as a thumb rest. It measures 5 1/4" tall at the sides by 9" in diameter from outside top rim to outside top rim. The rim is 3/4" wide all the way around. It has two small chips in the unglazed foot but these could have been ... moredone at the factory they are small and insignifigant. There is some overall crazing. Please see photos. The interior bottom and underside bottom crazing is dicolored but the crazing on the rim and elsewhere is not discolored but visible. This was created somewhere from 1881 to 1910 by the Henry Alcock Co of Cobridge. England. It's a semi porcelain piece with a wood and rattan wrapped handle. Transfer ware decorated with gold accents. A real beauty. The chamber pot measures 11 inches tall without counting the handle. It's over 10 inches across at the opening. Which is about 8 1/2 inches. A fairly heavy pot weighing well over 10 pounds. There are no chips, no hairline ... morecracks and no repairs. No kidding. The vented inset fits well and has no issues. The worst I can find is a bit of gold loss, which is to be expected with the age and intended use and a bit of light crazing here and there. Rare to find one of these in this condition. So. Antique cream Ironstone Chamber Pot with Lid Has Mark
For your consideration is an Antique Creamy White Chamber Pot with a lid. This vessel belonged to my grandparents and I remember seeing it as decoration on a dresser more than 50 years ago. By then it was old. There are some areas of the glaze that seemed stained to me but the marks are light. There is also a Makers Mark on the bottom but I can't make out the letters even with a magnifying glass. It measures about 9" across from the outside of the handle. It is about 7" tall to the top of the knob on lid. The circumference is 8 1/2" The condition is pretty good with the exception of the expected crazing of the glaze. This is a gorgeous. Early 1900's, flow blue chamber pot with a cobalt blue floral pattern on cream. Although commonly used through the mid 20th century, traditional use of the chamber pots disappeared with indoor plumbing.
