Crown and unicorn, with CHARLES MEAKIN ENGLAND under it. This printed mark was used on the earliest pottery made at the Burslem Works location. From 1870 to 1882. There are a few expected minor anomalies inherent with hand-made pottery. The inside is quite clean. Close inspection reveals very minor scratches on the bottom from use over 130 years ago. The glazing on the exterior is very nice There are no chips on the top edge. As shown in the photos. There is a very small crack at the top right side of the handle that appears to have been glued, possibly prior to glazing. This is not very obvious to the eye when on display, and in my opinion it is a minor visual issue. I have tried to be as complete as possible in my description. But I'm not an antique expert and have assessed this chamber pot based on the research I have done. Please look carefully at the photos. As they are part of the description. Because of the age of this item. It will be sold AS IS and returns not accepted. so if you have any questions at all about the condition of this piece, please be sure to ask before purchasing so there are no surprises. VINTAGE ANTIQUE? HAND PAINTED CERAMIC FLOWER CHAMBER POT
Up for bid is a vintage probably antique(no date or makers mark) hand painted ceramic chamber pot. The bottom of the handle has two cracks running through it and a chip from the top crack. I would suggest never lifting it by the handle. Otherwise still very nice condition. Measures about 10-3/4" from handle to edge. 8-1/2" diameter rim x 5-5/8" tall to top of handle, 5" tall to top of pot. I will ship the next day after payment is received. This is the prettiest antique chamber pot I've ever seen. I believe it's hand painted in art deco style. So I would say that it dates from sometime between 1928 and 1935. My guess is that it's either English or American, although the only mark on the base is a hand written E 3037(see last pic) It is trimmed in black and both sides are decorated with a fall of pink, yellow, and green flowers near the top edge and an alley of cedar trees to the lower side of that. If you don't need a beautiful ... morechamber pot, it would make a lovely planter or flower pot or center piece for cut flowers or fruit. It measures approximately 8 3/8" in diameter(9 3/4" including the handle) x 5" deep. This piece is in generally excellent condition. The only thing I can find to report is a couple of white spots that didn't get painted. See close up in third pic- the white at the top under the rim(the other white spots were caused by the camera's flash) PLEASE do examine the pictures carefully since they are an essential part of the listing- and I tried to take pics from all angles- but note that the bright white and/or yellow spots on pics are just glare/flash! A really gorgeous old chamber pot to add to a collection or to enjoy displaying and using- however you like- by itself! I am trying to downsize a little. I have quite a few antique chamber pots and am going to list a few this week. This one is a pretty white pot with pink roses cascading from a basket held with blue ribbons. And little rose accents on the side, and a smaller version on the back(SEE PHOTOS) Measures: 9 1/2" across plus 2" for handle) x 5 1/2" deep. This chamber pot looks great with a flowering plant inside! Overall EXCELLENT condition: This pot has very little crazing in the glaze. A few little pock marks inside bottom, and very little faded gold trim. There are no cracks or chips. There is some roughness(about 1/4" on the top rim.you can feel it, but its not too noticable.
