This American Chippendale Ladies Writing Desk is elegant in every detail. It has North wind Lion motif on all five of the drawer handles and on the sides of the curvilinear legs. The legs extend gracefully down into traditional claw and balls on the floor. Ii is deep relief carved on all surfaces. The upper desk surface has an exquisite mahogany top outlined with an even more beautiful burl mahogany border. There five fitted drawers that open from the front and there are two vanity drawers that open from the top of the desk. Antique George III English Chippendale Arm Chair, c1760
Description: This listing is for a Period English George III Chippendale Walnut Arm Chair with a Vase-form splat. Probably circa 1760. Perhaps the most romantic part of the chair is the sheer intensity of patina throughout the chair. It is simply gorgeous, the entire chair maintaining what appears to be original finish with later layers of wax applied. Most of the repairs are very early and have fully oxidized to become part of the finish. The arms are masterfully turned. It has a light green leather upholstered seat, which appears to be a mid 20th century replacement. Turning the chair upside down, you can see a nearly black level of oxidization. Both front legs have light fluting along the outer corners, finishing the lines. The chair uses peg construction throughout, bringing the entire frame and structure together. This is a wonderful ... morefireside chair, and would bring life and romance to any room. It is structurally sound, though the arms would need to be reinforced for more practical use. The seat measures 23" by 17" The arm measures 27" from arm to arm. It is 38" high. With the seat sitting 18" from the ground. It is a comfortable piece, but more importantly a quite amazing work of art. Condition: Visually Excellent Condition It has numerous repairs to it. Most of which are pictured. Separation of joints here and there. The left hand arm(left hand side if sitting in the chair) has a minor split to the base, where the turned support meets the frame of the seat- this weakens the arm, but does not visually impair the piece. The leather seat has a tear on it, and light crackling throughout the leather cover. Blocks inside of seat frame are 20th century replacements. Age appropriate wear to finish, as well as scratches and abrasions throughout, many of which have fully oxidized to become part of the patina. Please review photos for more full condition. The cresting rail features a simple shell carving and ears. And it tops a nicely carved reticulated splat. Description: This listing is for a Fine American New England Chippendale Period Upholstered Arm Chair. Mahogany, probably Massachusetts circa 1765-75. It has a softly serpentine crest over a slightly backswept upholstered back. The stiles are full length of mahogany, stretching from the crest through the feet to create an incredibly strong frame, the legs being square, canted with chamfered interior corners. Both upholstered arms have a soft serpentine, curving outwards before joining the molded mahogany arm supports, flanking an upholstered seat stuffed over the square frame. Mahogany square legs are stretched with a box stretcher, the center bar tenoned into the side stretchers. The old finish is worn and full of character, ... morea deep wonderful patina glowing through the legs and stretcher. We have not removed the upholstery from the frame to examine the secondary woods beneath. This is a gorgeous chair for anyone with a passion for the Chippendale Period. Practical and functional with incredible strength in joints and broad comfortable proportions. These chairs are quite hard to find, and in this simply outstanding condition is particularly special. As a predecessor to the later Federal Period Lolling Chair, you can see the evolution from one period to the next, where eventually the legs would taper and backs gain height. It is a restrained design from the upholstered back chairs of Thomas Chippendale's book with a distinct American taste. The condition is indicative of the care this chair has received. The back. Seat and arm upholstery has been replaced with a 1940's style white& green floral brocade fabric. There are areas where the fabric has faded from the chair being placed near a window. The upper portion of the arms is covered in matching upholstery. The front skirt and side skirts boast finely carved medallion with acanthus scrolls flanked on either side by a detailed squared off areas containing flowers and diamond cross motifs. English George III Chippendale Antique Arm Chair Third Quarter of the 18th Century. C. 1760-80 Item# 090009RRW13 This listing is for a English George III Period Chippendale Walnut Arm Chair with a Vasiform splat over square molded legs. Probably circa 1760-80. The chair has great character in the finish, deeply oxidized dings and abrasions from years of use covered in countless applications of beeswax for a glowing smooth surface throughout. It has seen much use, many repairs evident throughout the chair, including repairs to the vulnerable arm supports and pieced out back feet. However, repairs are very early and have oxidized to become part of the overall character of the chair. The yoke crest rail has a soft slope to it. A single piece with the stiles tenoned into it(repaired at both joints) over a bold vasiform solid splat, this joining ... moreinto the molded shoe over the back rail. The arms are wonderfully shaped. Employing the cyma-curve that so dominated architecture and furniture designs of the mid-to-late 18th Century, creating a comfortable arm rest over finely turned baluster arm supports. These flank the trapezoidal light green leather upholstered slip seat seat, which appears to be a mid 20th century replacement. Turning the chair upside down, you can see a nearly black level of oxidization. Both front legs are square with subtle molding at the outer corners, the back legs square and canted, all four locked in place with a box stretcher. This is a wonderful antique 18th Century arm chair. Ideal for a home with a Colonial decor. Not a piece for serious collectors due to the numerous repairs, it is a visually delightful work for enjoyment in the home. These are unfinished. Chippendale style reproduction“Ribbon Back” side chairs. They are made from European beech wood and hand carved. The dimensions are 22 1/2”W x 22”D x 36 1/2”H These chairs were made by a company that claims to make the most authentic reproduction Chippendale and Hepplewhite chairs in the world. People who were in the furniture business and knew chairs frequently commented on their fine quality. Antique Chippendale Chair Circa 1870-1890
Coral Gables Estate From a nonsmoking home You may pick this up in Key Largo This chair is a Chippendale style chair with a winged crest or turned up extremeties. In an original Chippendale. The ends would extend a good two inches; the ends of the crest rail are fluted, the center has a flute or shell-like motif. The open wood back splat has a vasiform look; the side posts are straight and are connected to the seat rail as is the bottom of the vasiform back splat. The crest rail is a Victorian interpretation of Chippendale's ribbon back which would have continued on to the back splat. The arms are curved and extend outward and have fluted hand rests. The upholstery is beige/light tan with a vertical pattern of flowers; the apron is wide and straight; the cabriole legs have wide knees and the feet are a Victorian variation of a club/pad ... morefoot which is usually found on Chippendale style chairs and on the original chairs. In photo#4. There is a corner brace and the nail/screw is not the original. Until C. 1840-1850, corner braces were added for extra strength. These fitted into slots in the seat rail and were simply glued. After C. 1840-1850, corner brackets were used. These were glued and screwed into the angle of the rails. The bracket in this chair is straight, this also shows a later piece. The wood appears to be mahogany. I would date the Chippendale style chair C. 1870-1890. Circa 1770-1790, all in the BEST OLD GRUNGY OXIDIZED AND ALLIGATORED VARNISH OVER THE ORIGINAL BARN RED PAINT. THIS IS A VERY RARE FORM. Research has shown that the few examples known might have been made in the Lebanon- Norwich area of Connecticut. Hi- I acquired this from a local estate where I've seen this chair for the past 35yrs in a house where that family has been for over 100 years. Partial early labels can be seen in the photos. One looks to be hand written with just a couple letters showing. The other appears to be the maker's label with just a few letters showing those being“URA” Please let me know if you can recognize the town or know of a source to where I can research. Joints under chair have glued here and there and would likely have to be reworked but is otherwise solid. From the seat up is in excellent condition. Measures: Seat 23 1/4" wide x 17" deep. Antique Miniature Chippendale Upholstered Armchair Salesman Sample Furniture This remarkable miniature salesman sample chair measures 9 ¼” high x 6 ¼” wide. The seat is 6 ¼” deep and the overall depth is 8 ½” The feet and arms are beautifully carved wood. Possibly mahogany. The seat. Back and arms are upholstered in a fine green silk fabric, which has been painted with green, cream and red stripes to demonstrate, in scale, the actual full size fabric pattern. This chair, along with a matching Chippendale camel-back sofa and another upholstered easy chair and Pembroke drop leaf table were purchased as a set at an antique show in Santa Monica in 1987. At that time they were said t be 64 years old. Putting them at circa 1923, though they may well be older. The dealer had purchased them in Rockport, Illinois as salesman samples. ... moreThe construction and upholstery all indicates that they were in fact made as salesman samples and not as an apprentice piece or doll furniture. The mahogany is beautifully carved and finished and in good condition. The joints are tight with no wobbly bits or cracks. There is an old. Stable repair to the stretcher bar on the bottom of the chair. The painted silk is fragile and in rough. Shabby chic condition consistent with age. There is loss of paint. Splits in the fabric and some staining. Please study the photos with the zoom feature to see these issues. No attempt to repair or restore this piece has been made and it is in original condition. This piece is incredibly charming despite the vintage condition and displays beautifully. It is extremely rare to find miniature upholstered pieces of this age. As most have not survived the years.
