Remarkable Ancient British Iron Age Roman Celtic Bronze & Enamel Fitting - 100BC
A beautiful British Celtic decorative bronze fitting. Dating to the late Iron Age, 100 BC- 43 AD. Discovered in Northamptonshire on 1st June 2008. With a raised circular boss in the centre of each. The bosses are split into four quarters by a thick cross, with each section containing red enamel. On the reverse of the fitting is a bar intended to attach the piece to a belt or strap. The eye is one of the most recognisable ancient Celtic motifs. And is likely to have been considered an auspicious and protective symbol.
