It is solid metal with overall deterioration that can be seen in photos. The socket has a couple pieces missing from the reinforcement ring and the tip shows some deterioration. Can be seen in photos. Blade has a little deterioration on bottom corner. This spearhead was probably used on a throwing spear due to its size and weight. It would have been very lethal. To halt deterioration all dirt and loose rust was removed from this spearhead ... moreand it was coated with Smart Coat(a Polymer sealant designed for use over rust oxides) It can be easily removed if wanted. A fascinating. Well provenanced and rare ancient European Bronze Age reworked dagger, dating to approximately 800 BC. Of rare and unusual form. With a long ridged handle, slender blade and prominent central rib. Unusually, this piece appears to have originally been made as a spear head, subsequently broken(possibly in battle) and reworked into a dagger. Beating marks from this process of reworking are still clearly visible. Such weapons would have been used in battle by the early Celtic peoples and their predecessors. Indeed the period to which this artefact dates was characterized by migrations and invasions of warrior led groups across Europe. From the 4th century BC. Celtic groups pushed into the Carpathian region and the Danube basin, coinciding with their movement into Italy. The Boii and Volcae were two large Celtic confederacies who generally cooperated in their campaigns. Splinter groups moved south via two major routes: one following the Danube river, another eastward from Italy. According to legend, 300,000 Celts moved into Italy and Illyria. GENUINE ANCIENT CELTIC IRON LANCEHEAD SOCKETED SPEAR
An iron Celtic lance head circa 200 B.C. It measures 18 1/4" overall with a 6" socket. The socket is split for expansion of the lance pole and there is a small area that has rusted away(see photos) This was found in south Germany. It has been treated for rust resistance and is completely stable and strong with no restoration. Everything is the original iron. This was fixed onto a very long lance pole probably 10' or longer and was used as a pike or sarissa in combat to keep the enemy from close up combat. This is available for international purchase but I have an exclusion list of countries I will not ship to. Also if this is illegal to receive through your customs I will not refund your purchase until it has been returned to me. You should know if this is illegal to be imported into your country.

FINE LATE BRONZE AGE CELTIC SOCKET AND LOOP AXE/SPEAR HEAD-2100BC to 750 BC
An exceptionally fine LATE BRONZE AGE axe/spearhead. This is Celtic. Possibly from the Wessex culture but later, and was found in the south of England by my father in the 1940's. In. The Bronze Age is considered to have been the period from around 2100 to 750 BC. This is from the end of that period as evidenced by the fine workmanship. The planes of the metal. a technique experts call‘linear facetted axe’ are still visible after almost 3,000 years and the patina is relatively light. It has a socket for the handle and a loop to tie it securely on.This also was generally a later refinement in the making of axe/spearheads. There is an open spot where the metal has worn through- testament to it's frequent use.
