It is solid metal with overall deterioration that can be seen in photos. The socket has a couple pieces missing from the reinforcement ring and the tip shows some deterioration. Can be seen in photos. Blade has a little deterioration on bottom corner. This spearhead was probably used on a throwing spear due to its size and weight. It would have been very lethal. It has two attachment pin hole and one still contains a square headed attachment nail. It does have some deterioration shown in photos but remains very nice in appearance in hand. An exceptionally fine LATE BRONZE AGE axe/spearhead. This is Celtic. Possibly from the Wessex culture but later, and was found in the south of England by my father in the 1940's. In. The Bronze Age is considered to have been the period from around 2100 to 750 BC. This is from the end of that period as evidenced by the fine workmanship. The planes of the metal. a technique experts call‘linear facetted axe’ are still visible after almost 3,000 years and the patina is relatively light. It has a socket for the handle and a loop to tie it securely on.This also was generally a later refinement in the making of axe/spearheads. There is an open spot where the metal has worn through- testament to it's frequent use.
