Antique Royal Navy Officer's Sword
An 1827-pattern Royal Navy officer's sword. The precise age of the sword is not known. It was last sold in 1989 by an antiques shop in the English town of Dartmouth. The location of Britannia Royal Naval College, where the British Royal Navy trains midshipmen to become commissioned officers. A request made to the Royal Navy Research Archive yielded the following information: The sword probably relates to: Edward Stuart Pierce Harrison. Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve Sub-Lieutenant RNVR- 28 June 1930 Lieutenant 28 June 1933 Lieutenant Commander 28 June 1941 Served onboard HMS Champion summer 1930 Courses at HMS Excellent and HMS Dryad summer 1932 HMS Saladin summer 1936 Signals officer course summer 1937 1945 Navy List shows him trained in Signals and Minesweeping" The sword in its scabbard is 38.25 inches(97.15 cm) from the ball atop ... morethe lion's head to the bottom of the scabbard. Antique Persian Tulwar Sword & Scabbard Gold Decorated Hilt & Cartouche
This# 907 is as follows: This antique Persian tulwar sword and scabbard with gold decorated hilt and cartouches is from my estate liquidator's private collection. What you see is what you get. It was acquired from an estate over 35 years ago and now being offered for auction. It weighs just under 2-Lbs. 5-Oz. sword measures 36 inches overall, blade measures 31 inches. The original leather and wood scabbard is tattered and missing the tip by about 5 inches and the leather feels like paper where is has loosened a bit. The blade is solid but there is surface rust and staining, a few nicks to a still fairly sharp edge; it may have be worked at some time but ages ago as this is and was in found condition, note pics#10& 11 to see what looks like a worn or worked tip. Two gold cartouches found in pics#6 and#7, that are positioned on either ... moresides of the blade, are bright and prominent; one less visible looks like the remnant of a makers mark? and can be seen in picture#12. I was told by a neighbor(retired Indian Army Lt. Colonel, and 77 years old) that the cartouche reads like Saudi, but surely Islamic, maybe from the Arabian Peninsula and that it was old. Is double-edged with symetrical sloping sides. The hilt has a hardwood grip. Carved with fluting, and has an aperture for a sword knot. The Ruyi form brass cross-guard and pommel are decorated with chased technique to depict a Chinese character. Flanked by bats and scrolls, on a stipple chased ground. The sword retains its original wood scabbard, which is decorated with precious marine shell veneer, with mottled orange and black hues, and brass mounts, all chased with Chinese charachters and bats. For auction is this fine antique Japanese wakizashi sword set. The 17th century blade is a real beauty. The japanese polish is high quality and mint condition, completely damage free clean blade with very sharp edge, also flawless with only a couple of very minor usual kizu above the shinogi line(ridge) nothing on the cutting surface. The temperline is Sanbonsugi hamon. A very fine pattern developed in the 16th century by Kanemoto. The activities are truly fantastic with fully packed activities. Lot of Nie crystals, Sunagashi, Inazuma, elegant peaks and valleysm very dense and flamboyant temperline that is very scarce and desirable and hard to find, especialy on a minty blade. The grain work is also very good and healthy. Not overpolished blade, the tip is elegant with a fine clearly visible boshi also full of nice activities and shape. The ... moretang has 2 holes and unsigned with nice patination. Although it is unsigned there is sayagaki in the shirasaya. A judgment by the master polisher. Although I did not have time to have it translated fully it is clear that it states the blade was made by Katsukuni. The Katsukuni smiths were well known for being skilled at creating the famous sanbonsugi hamon. The Edo koshirae is great. The old saya has kaeritsuno(horn hook) too, the lacquer is good with minor dings from use. The double copper habaki in nicely filed and heavily gold washed. The copper tsuba has nice open theme and the rim is gold washed also. The tsuka has good old rayskin and tight ito. Finely detailed inlayed copper menukies in the shape of bulls, good iron fuchi and kashira also. Nothing rattles. Very nice sword. It also comes with copy of japanese registration card along with the shirasaya set too. Highly recommended sword made to high standard. Antique Signed Japanese Samurai Tanto Authentic Japanese Samurai Sword Dagger(Tanto) Dating most probably to the so called Nambokucho Periode from around 1400. It is signed Morimitsu. The blade looks to be Soshu School. Temperline looks like Suguha with wild Hada. The Tanto is mounted in an antqiue Edo periode Aikuchi Koshirae with Buffalo Horn Fuchi/ Kashira and very nice Shakudo Flower Menuki with Gold Zogan. Koiguchi. Kurigata and Pin are also made of Horn) The scabbard remains in good condition and still has a worn but all antique Sageo(String) attached to it. Habaki is made of copper with remains of silver platting. This is a nice well over 500 years old signed Samurai dagger in all antique mounts. There are no Hagire. Sold as is. Old Antique 17th 18th Century Qing Dynasty Chinese Iron Short Sword Saber Dagger
This sword dates from the first half of the Qing Dynasty of China. Pronounced Ching in english. The Qing Dynasty, also called, Empire of the Great Qing, was the last Imperial Dynasyt of China. Qing ruled China from 1644-1912. This sword would have been made between 1644& the late 1700s. The wooden grip is long gone. The one piece knuckle-bow, quillon, and pommel are made of iron, as is the blade. The hilt is loose, but is well fastened to the tang. As you can see in the pictures, the entire sword is coated with a heavy layer of rust. But it is still quite sturdy. Any markings that it may have once had are no longer visable. Brass hilt with wire-wrapped leather grip. The blade is 35 inches long and the overall length is 41 inches. The blade has a nice patina consistent with its age and is in very good condition. Although there are approximately seven small nicks on the cutting edge and some very light surface corrosion in a few places. The leather washer at the base of the blade is present. The hilt is tight and in good condition. The wood grip and wire are 100% intact. The leather is intact other than a small missing piece at the end near the pommel. This sword looks like a 1796 British Pattern but I believe it is a 1806 German Blucher Pattern. This item came from an old home in Southwest Virginia. It could have been used in any conflict from the War of 1812 up to and through the Civil War by both sides. There are various marking which can be seen in the photos. Sword and scabbard have signs of rust pitting but I do not believe the blade has ever been sharpened. Email with any questions. Etc. This is a Japanese sword in Honzukuri mountings. The blade is unknown. Yoroidoshi shape. I guess made Bizen school blade. The blade is in old full polish. Shows tiny scratches on surface but no stain, no rust and in Very good condition. The temper line is Gunome temper pattern and Yakizume temper at the point. The forging grain is tight Itame-hada with Masa and no forging flaws at all. The scabbard is urushi lacquered wood scabbard. Shows minor lacquer loss but no dent, no crack. The handle wrapp is old wrapping. Tight fit with Higo Zogan iron Fuchi and Kashira. The tsuba is Kikukagata shape brass tsuba. It is dress up with oldest Sanadahimo tassel. The blade is smithed in exactly the same way as a Japanese katana, with striation layers showing within the steel, which are the layers of hard and soft steel used in its construction, resulting in an extremely strong and sharp blade. The hilt has a round cross-section wooden grip, with steel bolster and pommel. The sword has its scabbard, which is made from two strips of carved hardwood. The sword measures 760 mm in total length. This is an old/antique Batak blade; it is called a Kalasan. It was the sidearm or self-defense weapon of Batak men. The Batak were a fierce tribal people in the highlands of Sumatra. And were known for their bravery, cannibalism(at certain times) and also their colorful culture. This is a well made piece, on the smaller, quicker side. It is 22.5" overall including sheath, the handle is 4.5" long with a small snug grip, and the blade length is 17"

17th Century Antique Japanese Wakizashi / Katana sword in fittings, fine tsuba
My pride and joy- A fine late 17th century Japanese wakizashi. Completely original late 1600's/ early 1700's blade in great polish with no fatal flaws. The blade is in a quite rare/ uncommon shobu zukuri style. This is not a cut down Katana. Instead it was in my opinion forged as a wakizashi and would have been part of a pair of daisho(katana and wakizashi) worn by the samurai of yore. The blade has cutting edge of about 14 inches. Blade is about 1.5 inches wide at the widest point. and the tang measures approx 4.2 inches. In its saya, the total length is 23.5 inches long. It has an irregular hamon that covers the length of the blade with no flaws and shows nice activity. Which could enhanced with just a basic touch up polish done by a professional(something i neither have the money or contacts here in the UK to arrange myself) The ... moreis in very good condition for a 300+ year old blade. There are some minor openings along the spine of the blade but they are minimal, look worse in the pictures than they do in the flesh, and are not fatal flaws. The blade is not'tired' and could take another polish. The edge is razor sharp and has no nicks/ chips that i can see with the naked eye. There is no rust/ pitting. The nakago has not been tampered with and has a nice even oxidization. The koshirae are nice but kind of a mixed bag. The tsuba is very nice. With nice carving and gold embellishments and certainly has much age(1800's? though dating tsuba is beyond a novice like me. The tsuka is rock solid, the whole blade has no movement within its mounts. The tsuka has a tight and well done green ito wrap with fully intact same showing some nice nodes. This obviously again has age. The copper menuki, and the horn kashira(spellings? are obviously later additions however. The habaki is a quality one, nicely done in thick gold foil(which is starting to crack slightly along the edge on one side) The saya is in good condition with black laquer(that has suffered some minor paint chips over its life. not many and aga

This is a Japanese sword in honzukuri mountings. This Gunto is guessed use in Kamikaze corps or the tank corps. The blade is signed"Kanazawa Jyu Fujiwara Nobutomo 金沢住藤原信友" Shinogi-zukuri shape, early Edo period ca. 1660 era made Fujishima school blade. The blade is in old full polish. Shows tiny scratches on surface. The temper line is Tobiyaki with choji temper pattern and ko-maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight Koitame-hada with Tobiyaki. The scabbard is skin wrapped wood scabbard. The handle wrap is old wrapping, tight fit Tokin copper Kashira with katakiri carving/ cherry blossom Fuchi with matched turnip Tokin menukis. The tsuba is Mokogata shape chery blossom motif tsuba. Habaki is made by silver and has giving the gold plate.
