SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 140 millimeters(5 5/8 inches) at bowl; 94 millimeters(3 3/4 inches) at top lip. Height: 98 millimeters(3 7/8 inches) CONDITION: Very good. Complete and unrepaired. Little blemishes consistent with wear and then burial since ancient times. A few small rim chips, a couple of tiny hairline cracks. The typical blemishes of hand production(warts and dimples, zits and pits) DETAIL: A complete. Unrepaired medium sized impressed earthenware jar seemingly attributable to the middle of the first millennium B.C. The term“impressed” means that a design was impressed into the still wet vessel before it was fired. More often than not this involved rolling the vase over a fibre mat, or pressing a piece of mat into the vessel, impressing a design into the still-wet clay. It is a good-sized piece, the size of a small melon. What’s really remarkable is that despite its age, it is entirely complete. There is of course a collection of small rim chips, virtually obligatory with a ceramic vessel this old. And from those chips two very slight hairline cracks have evolved, as can be seen in the images here. However considering the age of the vessel, these are rather minor(and entirely customary and acceptable) blemishes. As well there is an assortment of tiny scuffs and abrasions which one would expect with an earthenware household utensil which was used and then buried. Considering that the typical such specimen is recovered shattered into shards, this specimen is truly in remarkable condition. Although it is probable that this specimen is much older. It is also possible that this piece might be a revivalist imitative

There is one rim chip which was repaired by one of our conservators(visible as an unglazed spot along the rim) Normal tiny nicks and dings, all consistent with a ceramic utensil of this age, and the normal potting blemishes(glaze pits, etc. associated with hand production. Glaze is remarkable, almost entirely intact! DETAIL: A splendid. Very large black/brown glazed earthenware bowl in the style of the Song or Jin Dynasty of Ancient China. This particular style was produced using a black glaze, high in iron oxides. In the kiln the iron would oftentimes come to the surface of the glaze, creating brown/rust-colored“oil spots” or streaky“hare’s fur” patterns on the otherwise black glaze. The style became extremely popular in ancient China, especially with Japanese Monks to whom the Chinese exported this unique and rare product. Tea bowls were the most common produce of this technique. This particular bowl is a variation of this style, where rather than a large number of spots or drips, instead larger areas of high iron glaze were used to produce these large rust-colored streaks in the otherwise black-predominated glaze. Both the tea bowls, as well as larger sized bowls such as this are relatively rare. Both styles of tea bowls as well(oil spot” and“hare’s fur” are a very sought after variation of Song

Or three-color glazes principally in yellow, green and brown was a development of the Tang Dynasty(618-907 AD) Sancai(three-colored" wares were first made for burial, using lead-based glazes that produced mottled and streaky effects in green, amber-brown, and cream, with an occasional addition of blue or black. The production of such exquisite porcelain items required multiple firings of fine white clay at temperatures near 1000c(1800f) degrees. A wide variety of statuettes were commonly produced such as musicians, chamberlains(butlers) maids, cooks, even animals; all designed to serve their deceased master. In early Tang dynasty. It is cleaned and conserved in Germany. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. This spearhead is in fabulous condition for its age and area found in. It does have some pits but edges remain very nice in appearance. There is some minor deterioration on socket edge also(see in photos) This is a stout spearhead with relative heavy socket walls and blade tapering from center. A rare Iberian standing bronze warrior. Dating to the 5th- 4th Century B.C. The nude figure stands facing the viewer. Brandishing a large cylindrical club. A quite abstract and pleasing composition. The facial features simple but powerfully executed, the thick hair swept back. The Iberians were a proto-Celtic people from what is now mostly Spain and Portugal. In ancient times these peoples were regarded as fierce warriors. Often being recruited as mercenaries by the powerful civilizations to the south and east. The present figure was likely dedicated in a shrine or temple, by a donor who wished to be granted a favour by the presiding God. Height(excluding mount) 2 1/4 inches. Condition: Unrestored. They are found either in flint lined safety boxes put into the ground by the original owners or in clumps of dirt if the boxes have broken open, which is the case most of the time. The dirt has to be broken away to even see the items and that is not a patina, but dirt. If you look on-line you will see that almost all the ancient Roman and Celtic gold and silver jewelry has been cleaned. It has been cleaned to show its true beauty. Most sellers do not want to do this with the bronze( jewelry or coins) because it is time consuming and hard work with little monetary return for the extra effort. I clean them and I put in the hours to do it( one ring can take as many as 5 hours to clean properly. because I feel that they should be seen as their last owners saw them bright and shiny( I leave the inner part of the ring as-is so the new owner can be the first person in the age of the ring to touch it once the"PATINA" wears-off.
