This particular specimen was handcrafted in 19th century Russia into this sparkling faceted oval. This is a very fine, richly colored cognac-brandy colored semi-precious gemstone, the color and flavor much like a dark golden honey. It almost looks like very brilliant and fiery faceted cognac amber. As you can see from the photo enlargements here, it is not absolutely flawless. To the naked eye it is completely transparent and seemingly unblemished. However in the 500% photo enlargements you can see two tiny blemishes. They're virtually impossible to discern with the naked eye, and to the examination of the casual admirer, the gemstone seems absolutely unblemished. Of course, most of mother nature's produce is not absolutely without blemish. Flawless gemstones generally turn out to be synthetic, man-made.
