A vintage carved wooden Bavarian or Swiss nutcracker in the form of an old man's face. The face is expertly carved with every detail of the man's wrinkled brow and cheeks. Bushy eyebrows, full beard, spectacles, prominent nose, and teeth carefully delineated. He wears a stocking cap with tassel atop his head. The rear lever is operated to open the man's jaw so that a nut can be inserted for cracking once the leaver is pushed shut. This is a charming piece with no chips, cracks, or dings to the wood. Vintage Folk Art Hand Carved 5 1/4" Figures Old Woman Man with Pipe Swiss ? FAST
These vintage FOLK ART Hand Carved wooden Figures stand about 5 1/4" tall. One depicts an old woman with a kerchief tied around her head. I think she should be holding on to a cane. But the cane is missing. Ii looks like her right shoe is knicked. The second figure is of an old man. He appears to be wearing a smoking jacket. No hat. He has a hole in his right hand that makes one think he holds a staff. The right hand also has a hole. In it he holds what appears to be a long pipe, but the stem should be longer than shown. Each is a charming piece. Neither has identifying marks. Other pieces I have recently sold seem to be from Switzerland and from the 70's. Carved Black Forest Bear Hall Tree Stand Old 89 Inches Tall German Swiss
Free shipping in the lower 48 states. Up for bids is a vintage carved wood bear tree hall stand. I am not sure of the exact age but mid 20th century. It has typical cracking from the wood drying out over the years. It stands a whopping 89 inches. I believe it is probably Swiss in origin. The carving on the bears is very good. If it ever had a metal tray I do not have it. There is what appears to be glue in one of the cracks. It is very solid and was never broken, but its there. Vintage stag carving. This is a very nice wood carved stag that has been intricately carved by a skilled German or Swiss woodcarver. The base measures 14-1/2' wide by 4-1/4' deep and to the highest point of the antlers it stands 13' tall. It is in very good condition but with an age crack on the side of the wooded brush. Antique Intricate Hand Carved Swiss Black Forest Wood Owl Sculpture
This is a wonderful deep brown to black walnut owl statue or Figural finial. Hand carved from a single piece of wood. It is beautifully aged with a natural sheen and incredibly smooth surface. There's some dullness at the back of his head and a very fine line which through a loupe appears to be a part of the wood. He also has a crack across each leg that does not go all the way around, and appears to have been done intentionally in the carving. He measures 5" tall and about 2 1/2" wide with a 1 3/4" base. I found this in a barn full of quality antiques here in NH. Please note- I dont accept returns for anything other than an inaccurate description or if the item is damaged in transit. Up for auction is this wonderful antique wood handcarving depicting the Lion of Lucerne Monument. The Lion Monument. Or the Lion of Lucerne, is a sculpture in Lucerne, Switzerland, which commemorates the Swiss mercenary troops who were massacred in 1792 by French revolutionaries who stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris during the French Revolution. The monument was designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen, and carved out of sandstone rock by Lukas Ahorn in 1820- 1821. The mortally wounded lion, with his expression of heart-rending agony, rests against symbols of the French monarchy. It was called"the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world" by Amercan writer Mark Twain. This antique carved Swiss wooden nutcracker I think date to around 1900-1930. The nutcracker is carved in the form of a cats head and has been really well carved with great detail and nice patina with age as seen in the photos. There is a hollow in the back so small nuts could be cracked without risking the cats teeth. A souvenir of Zweisimmen. Welcome* Up for bidding is a very old hand carved Black Forest Nut Cracker with a gnome face. He was purchased from the artisan by my father when he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He is expertly carved of hard wood. His coloration is still present in his red kerchief. Tanned face, red tongue, and brown"body" The carver put a great amount of detail into his features for his eyes, eye brows, and lips; very life-like. His jaw is hinged and when open displays his teeth and tongue. He apparently was used to crack nuts, so he has some signs of loving wear. I have done my best to describe him.
