Vintage Hand Carved Wood Bird Figurine Primitive Folk Art Style
Description CARVED WOOD BIRD Offered for bids is a Primitive Folk Art bird figurine hand carved from a single piece of wood. Posed with body stretched upright and tail fanned. Beak joins with the open work base. Grooved/cut feather lines and light texturing on base. Surface is natural with no varnish or finish. Figurine is approximately 7 3/4" high from base to tips of tail feathers. Light for its size. Weighing just two ounces. From an estate auction- unfortunately I have no history on the piece. Wood type is not known. Color is a medium dark brown with lighter warm brown striations running through it, some of which are slightly raised and textured. Piece is not marked. Unsure of age or origin. I believe this to be vintage, no newer than the 1960's, and made in the U.S.A. but I can't be sure. A Handsome Carved Bird Figurine ... moreCONDITION: No chips or cracks. One of the tail feather tips is blunted. The tip is smooth so I think it is the way piece was made and not damage. Part of the primitive style as the feathers are all a bit different. Pair of Vintage Primitive Folk Art Hand Carved Pigs - Made from Cherry Wood
This pair of pigs was found at an estate sale of a very prominent family in Central Kentucky. They collected many important carved pieces. We were lucky enough to have been able to procure these two. They are a beautiful example of American Folk Art Carving. The pigs are 3 1/4" long by 2" tall. And 1" wide. If you appreciate Folk Art at it's finest, you will love this example.

Quantity: 1 hand carved folk art cat Maker: We are unsure of the origins of the piece but believe that it might be Canadian or American. We acquired it in Montreal quite a ... morefew years ago; it is signed on the base with a purple ink stamp that shows medallion with ribbon and a banner with the artists name but it is a bit smudged, the first name may be Darran or something of that sort, the last three letters appear to be RAN and the last name looks like Kall but again that may also be Wall or Hall as the first letter is uncertain. We have tried many hours to find who this might be but with no luck, if anyone has more information we would love to hear from them. Age: we would date this piece to the late 1800’s– early 1900’s. It does appear to have good age and patina, the wood appears to be raw and never stained or varnished Size: measures 16 inches from heat to tail and over 10 inches high at the cat’s hind legs Condition: In overall wonderful condition with no major damage that we can note. There are some cracks to the wood from drying with age, there are some cracks around the legs, they go through on the back legs but don’t appear to on the front legs; one ear has some fretting and also the end of the tail; there is a piece of wood missing from the toe on one of the back feet; lovely patina and feel to the wood. Description This is a old hand carved figure of a girl or young woman. Nicely done. Almost 6 3/4" tall x 3 3/8" wide on the bottom. The estate sale personal mark everything for cataloging with a black grease marker. The black mark on the bottom is from them. And it would not come off. I did clean the wood with orange oil. As it was dry from being in storage for 30 years. Does show signs of age. But still an interesting primitive piece. If you want your items mailed to a PO Box. Choose the USPS shipping option. Beautiful. Hand carved figures of a man and woman(farmers with a sheep? are absolutely one of a kind! Both figures have a great deal of detail and must have taken quite a bit of time and skill to produce! The wood is quite lightweight and these are not perfect(see condition description above) but if you like unique, these are it! The male sculpture measures 7" H x 2 3/4 D(base) the female sculpture is 6" H x 2 1/4" base) There are no artist signatures I can see, only a handwritten mark on both pieces. Wonderful! There is an unknown substance on the underside of the piece which appears to be some sort or dry wood putty or perhaps filler. Item is a bit darker than the photos show. So do keep this in mind when viewing the photos. Item does sit flat although it does wobble a bit from front to back and can easily lean backward when touched(due to the body position of the owl. This is a very interesting item. A box shaped nutcracker, all hand carved and made. Everything is pieced together with nothing but wood. It is a strong piece. Has a side crack which could have been an original flaw in the wood. Just not 100% sure, but box is stable. Look at pics. Small chip in hinge are above peg.
