Antique Black Forest Style Hand Carved Wall Shelf
I am breaking up my collection of hand carved wall shelves. Moved into smaller place and don't have room. I have collected these over the years at Estate Sales. Ebay purchases, antique auctions, etc. I do not know the origin, but suspect it was carved in Switzerland or Germany around the turn of the century. It is in good condition and has only one small chip on the top of the shelf against the wall, so it is not seen. Dimensions: shelf 12" x 7" and height is 12" Carving of the bird and branches is in great detail. A real work of art that you don't see anymore. To reduce risk of breakage in shipment, I will detach the shelf(three screws) from the body of the shelf.

I must thin my collection of carved wall shelves because I moved into a small place. I collected them from Estate sales. Ebay, Antique auctions. I cannot give the exact history of this item. It was likely carved in Switzerland where these are known to originate. Dimensions are shelf: 6 1/2" x 10" height is 11 inches. Other than the broken fragment shown in the picture, it is in very good condition. You will see the piece and where it goes. Victorian walnut black forest style carved wall shelf in very good antique condition with a few blemishes. The shelf depicts two highly carved birds in their natural setting. Fine three dimensional carving of one of the birds protruding from a tree. Please see pictures for details. There are two cracks in the shelf. There is a small chip at the end of the larger bird's tail feather. The decorative shelf moulding has some old damage. A very nice antique Victorian Era shelf. Just found this at an estate sale. The little lady who passed had these 2 houses just to store her collection/addiction. The shelf is hand carved from mahogany wood and is from the Black Forest region of Germany. Marked under shelf is the numbers 393. Measures approx 10" tall and 6" in depth. Both sides of antlers have previously been glued back on and there are some tips of the antlers missing. Tip of spool coming off upper right side is missing. This is still a beautiful display piece! Here on offer is a gorgeous antique carved wooden Black Forest wall bracket shelf. Dating to between 1890 and 1900. This beautiful piece is made from limewood. Which is also known as linden that has dark staining. It is has a design of delicately scrolling leaves and twigs on the back plate and wall bracket with a solid shelf. This is an old Original Carved Wood Corner Shelf Black Forest with a wonderful carving of a Chamois which is a type of Antelope or Goat that is native to the mountains in Europe. Excellent depiction of a beautiful animal. Overall length of the shelf is 12" and the shelf which is rounded is 9" deep at the deepest point in the center of the shelf. One of the Horns has been repaired and I believe the Horns are separate carved pieces and you can see where they are attached to the head. Weight with proper packing is approximately 3 lbs. Switzerland This auction is for this amazing pair of shelves that I just bought at an antique show in Thun. Switzerland. They were carved by one of the amazing and famous carvers in Brienz, Switzerland. Matching pairs are almost impossible to find anymore and this is one of the prettiest pairs I have ever seen and in such good condition. One shelf shows the head and neck of an Ibex ram mounted onto a backboard. The head of the ram is so exquisitely carved that you can almost count each hair in his fur. The backboard is a carving that simulates tree branches and is decorated on each side of the head by an alpenrose and her petals. This decor is again repeated on the bottom of the back ... moreboard. The other shelf is decorated and mounted in the same manner and it shows an alpine chamois or mountain goat. This one is also carved in such great detail to even show the individual beard hair of the animal. Both of these heads are carved to make them look like they are alive- realism at it's finest. They are carved from Lindenwood and stained a rich brown. Each has two hooks for hanging on the wall. They are in good used condition with a beautiful wood patina. They measure 12" high 13.25" wide. Shelf is about 16" wide across the back side and 8" deep in the center of the curved shelf to back of shelf. Overall is about 11" tall. Wonderful intricate detailed carving of the open mouthed foxes head with its detailed facial features. Top shelf above with side supports. Flat backed for wall mounting. Description This is an antique carved wood wall shelf with a deer head in the center. It is most likely German made and probably by Black Forest Company who was known for making these carvings. Darling small shelf carved from Lindenwood and stained a rich walnut brown. Decorated with the head of the Chamois(Alpine Goat) Head is attached to the shelf by two antique rose nails and it has two antique hooks for hanging on the wall. There is some writing that is hard to decipher on the back of the shelf. Along with the date 1846. 5" high. 5 1/4" wide, 3 1/4" deep. Good used condition. Please see photos.
