This carving is a very interesting carving and was carved in a cut out cameo like style. The swallow is black with accents of white. Beige and red. The Edelweiss flowers are white, yellow, and green. Switzerland. I was fortunate enough to be allowed into their archives and privileged to purchase some of their antique stock that had never been circulated. This auction s for this beautiful hand carved raven. His plumage is carved in great detail. He has red painted eyes with black pupils and a huge beak which is painted a beigy yellow and the inside is painted red and shows the hand carving strokes of the carver. This is certainly a one of a kind item- I have a smaller one in an auction but I have never again seen ... morethem anywhere else. This could be used for a myriad of purposes- pens and pencil holder, paper clips, safety pins, stamps, etc. It would also be great on a night stand to hold earrings or miscellaneous jewelry. It measures 6.5" high, 3.5" wide, and 7" deep. The opening of the beak is 5" high and the approximate depth is 3.5" and it's 2.25" wide. It is in excellent condition with a nice patina. Switzerland This auction is for this amazing pair of shelves that I just bought at an antique show in Thun. Switzerland. They were carved by one of the amazing and famous carvers in Brienz, Switzerland. Matching pairs are almost impossible to find anymore and this is one of the prettiest pairs I have ever seen and in such good condition. One shelf shows the head and neck of an Ibex ram mounted onto a backboard. The head of the ram is so exquisitely carved that you can almost count each hair in his fur. The backboard is a carving that simulates tree branches and is decorated on each side of the head by an alpenrose and her petals. This decor is again repeated on the bottom of the back ... moreboard. The other shelf is decorated and mounted in the same manner and it shows an alpine chamois or mountain goat. This one is also carved in such great detail to even show the individual beard hair of the animal. Both of these heads are carved to make them look like they are alive- realism at it's finest. They are carved from Lindenwood and stained a rich brown. Each has two hooks for hanging on the wall. They are in good used condition with a beautiful wood patina. They measure 12" high 13.25" wide. Victorian era black forest bear umbrella stand carved at famous Brienz factory!!
Offering a Victorian era carved bear umbrella stand made if the famous factory of Brienz. The bear does have some issues as seen from photos. There is a crack on the face and eye was replaced. There are several age cracks around on the bear that have been there for many years but the overall condition is stable and still is a very attractive piece! Most all of the bears of this period has age cracks due to shrinkage of the wood over the years. Study photos carefully. Bear is heavy and I am paying for shipping, at ups. I have enjoyed this bear for several years and now it is time to move on and give it a new home.

This is a fantastic item. And except for the base, it seems to be all carved from one piece of wood. It is probably carved from Lindenwood. It is very heavy and stained a rich walnut brown. The carving reminds me very much of the Swiss Carvings from Brienz. Depicting William Tell and his son. This carving is beautifully executed in great detail. Particularly in St. Christopher's beard, as well as his feet and hands. The Christ Child is holding the world in his right hand and giving a blessing with his left hand. This carving is in very good used condition- there is a small quarter inch chip missing on the base to the left of St. Christopher's foot ... morebut it is hardly visible and can easily be stained brown. A vintage Brienz standing bear bud vase. Was purchased some time during 1933 in Redwood Forest California. The bear itself stands 5" tall. With vase the complete piece stands 6" tall. Bear is slightly loose from stand but has not come apart yet. Vase has one rough spot on the edge. Seems to be from manufacturing and not damage. Original glass bead eyes. The complete figurine is very finely hand carved. It was conceived as a vide-poches but is multi-functional. E.g. the extended arms are suitable for holding a thread spool. Unfortunately the bear must have had an accident in its youth so that the left foot needed an operation- but it wasn't an excellent doctor so that the fracture has not merged absolutely. Apart from this fault- which hardly can be recognized and is shown greatly enlarged in the last pictures- it is in very good used condition for the high age. Switzerland This auction is for this antique hand made item that I used as an umbrella stand and also for canes or ice axes. It was originally made to hold milk when the cor herds would go up to the alps and milk the cows on the meadows. They would carry the milk in this item strapped to their back. Nowadays. These items are also used for a myriad of purposes. It is carved and decorated on the outside in a type of notch carving and the carved boards are held together with an intertwined wooden band. The wood has a nice rich patina and this item has a higher handle so it could also hang on a wall and be filled with straw flowers. It is composed of many carved slats to give it this oval shape and one has ... moreshrunk slightly so there is a small opening between two slats. This happened in Colorado because of the dryness so it probably wouldn't hold liquids anymore but this could also be remedied by wetting the boards. This beautiful wood carved umbrella stand without the handle is 18" high and with the handle it is 24.5" high and on the top it is 13" wide and 7" deep and on the bottom it is 14" wide and 8" deep.
