Not being overwhelming in any way, the highly appropriate depth and form work to repress the natural glamor of the form. Years of enjoyment in a bright room have mellowed the mahogany into a nearly cognac tone, the warm brown-red of the grains perfectly complimented by the naturalistic burlap backing inside of the glass cabinet- noteworthy and of great charm is the original pane of glass still retained in the door; the light rippled surface of hand blown glass is unmatched by modern craftsmanship and adds immeasurably to the nostalgia of these pieces. Mounted with medium-fine cast gilt bronze embellishments of neoclassical influence. There is a refinement about the overall form that is very striking. The construction is true to the period, the backboards chamfered along their edges to rest in the mitered stiles. While the top is lacking shelves, the"notched" system for the shelves runs along either side to readily accept new glass or wood shelves if you choose to have some crafted. The base has a single shelf, again using the notched track for customizable heights. While it has some flaws. Mostly in the form of little dings, chips and the discolored alligatored shellac to the right side of the case, this is a difficult form to come upon and is just delightful with this warm surface. This incredible piece is very large. And features 4 doors and 4 drawers. It is both breakfront and bowfront in style, with the central two door cupboard protruding out from the single side cupboards, but with also a beautiful bowed or curved form. The two central doors open to a bowed double-sized cupboard with a single fixed shelf, and the side cupboards are straight in style, again with a fixed shelf. The doorfronts feature deep, impressive carving and panelling, and attractive contrasting cross-hatch design. There are three original keys for the cupboards- one for each of the side cupboards, and one for the central double cupboard. Atop the cupboards, there are 4 drawers, with complimentary carving and original fittings. The top surface of the unit is in lovely condition, shaped in form. We would date this piece as a genuine vintage c1920. The Bookcase/Display Cabinet is made from Mahogany and features ... morebeautiful bevelled glass to each of the panes. There are 3 glass panes to each of the 3 doors and they are all set individually. And are 2/3rds the length of the doors, with a blind panel at the base. There are 3 fully adjustable timber shelves to the interior and the base making a fourth self. Huge Storage! The door combination opens as a pair of doors and a single door. Additional shelves could be made to fit. The keys are original and the up and down mechanism is still in working order. The Bookcase/Display Cabinet features a strong plain shape and the whole terminates on short legs with brass decoration at the bottom. The finish is a good mid brown colour. Structurally the Bookcase is sound. However several points to note are the warping to the central door, thus preventing the door to close properly, although it does not swing open. The other thing is the finish, which has crazed, giving it an aged skin like appearance and part of the backboard has been replaced. However age-appropriate wear and character marks are to be expected. This Bookcase/Display Cabinet stands 198.5cm in height and is 162cm wide. With a depth of 40cm. A beautiful vintage French Louis XV style corner cabinet. Which is a real spacesaver for displaying china, glass or collectables. It is most unusual in design, featuring two sections- a display area to the top and a rounded, enclosed cabinet to the base. It has some age, but is not as old as many of our pieces. We would date it to ... morec1960/70. The corner cupboard is of solid oak. And oak veneer construction. The top display section has an impressive and substantial shell design carved central feature, and applied, curved astrigal-type decoration to the glass door. There are three triangular-shaped shelves for displaying those precious treasures. The base is drum-like in design with a large rounded front. There is wonderful carving to the base. With a recessed, shaped panel. The piece stands on carved, cabriole legs to the front. It retains it's original fittings and hinges. The cabinet has an overall height of 198cm. The top display area is 84cm high. 67.5cm wide across the body and 76.5cm wide at the pelmet. It is 39cm deep. The base section is 84cm high, 77cm wide and 60cm deep. It presents as a real storage and display solution requiring little space! This is a charming piece! It is in lovely vintage condition. The only condition issue to mention is one section of the veneered timber missing from the side at the rear- it is of NO consequence. As it is not visible when the piece is in place in a corner. The doors open in a double/ single configuration, to give maximum access to contents. The bookcase has a simple, square line, and would fit in with most decors. It stands on small legs, finished with brass decoration. There are 3 fully adjustable timber shelves to the interior with the base making a fourth shelf. Additional shelving could be made to fit. The keys appear to be original and thelocking mechanism is still in working order. Structurally the bookcase is very sound. However there are a couple of condition issues to mention. Of greatest significance is some slight warping of the central door, which has resulted in a little misalignment affecting complete closure. There is also some cracking to the timber finish, both issues photographed for your inspection. It also appears that part of the backboard, unseen when in use, has been replaced.
