Scranton Attic. Antique Country Stepback Built-in Cupboard w/Wavy Glass Doors. Wow. What an amazing find! This beautiful. Antique, stepback cupboard was salvaged from an old home in Northeastern PA. It’s made of solid, heartpine, which is the heart stock of pine trees, and is a hardwood with great resistance to rot and warping/twisting. It has 2 swinging doors on top. Each with 2 wavy glass lites; and 2 swinging doors on bottom, each with 2 raised, vertical panels. In between the 2 sets of doors, there are 2 sliding drawers. All 4 doors and both drawers are equipped with original hardware. Originally. The cupboard was installed in a corner. The left and back sides were built into a wall, and the front and right sides was exposed. This is why there is no covering for the back, and the crown molding, shelf, and shelf molding extend past the ... morebody of the cupboard on the right side only. FRENCH COUNTRY STEPBACK CABINET
Old farm cabinet made of pine. I refinished this cabinet with four layers of paint and sealed it. Wood is smooth soft surface. Muted grey's and yellow's. Side panels on the bottom cabinet are cream and the front panels. I added the front pieces to the front panels and distressed them. I hand tiled the top in a checkerboard pattern of grey& gold. Heavy cabinet in two pieces. The top cabinet is 43 1/4" wide by 51 1/2" tall by 13" deep. The bottom cabinet 47 1/4" wide by 35 1/4" tall by 24 1/2 deep. Total height of the cabinet is 7' 2 3/4" tall. There are two ways to display this cabinet. With or without the top doors. You will notice that there are no hinges on the pic with the top doors on. This is a wonderful quartersawn oak full size barrister stacked bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacked bookcase. This piece has the Globe Wernicke labels on each section and note that is does have a drawer in the bottom piece. Piece is executed in quartered oak with leaded glass doors. Additional highlights include beveled diamonds in each door and a full skirt(note the'leopard' bands on each side) each section has the Globe'scissors' style mechanism. Completely professionally restored(some of the backs. The top has 2 shelves with plate racks. The doors open and close with no problems and there is a latch to keep them securely shut. The glass is in excellent shape with no cracks or chips. We have enjoyed this cabine for over 40 years. Now it's time for new owners to step forward. Dimensions are 80 in tall as shown in first photo. It is 20 in deep at the lower section and 13 in deep at the upper section. It is 51 in wide. Pine is the primary wood with oak wainscotting on the back. It has had some restoration with like antique oak wainscotting board for the repair. You will need a pick up truck or van to carry it. Up for sale is a beauitful antique oak stepback cabinet. I have had this in my home for many. Many years. Has been refinished in a golden oak stain with a laqured to coat.It is in excellent condition with no broken or repaired wood. Has a wonderfull grain to the oak. Wavy glass in the top doors. Back appears to be orginial. Top section has 3 shelfs counting bottom, and the bottom section has 2 shelfs counting the bottom. The bottom door wood inserts have a bevel around them. Shelf boards and hinges are the orginial. The drawer handles and the bottom catch may be replacements but match cabinet well. I believe the top section catch is orginial. Measurements are: width 40, height 73, depth 18 inches. THE ITEMS IN CABINET ARE NOT INCLUDED.

First of all. Let me just apologize for my photos. We have stored the hutch at my in-laws where he is moving and remodeling is taking place. They aren't the prettiest photos but with all that's going on in that house right now, it's hard to find a good spot to take photos. This little hutch appears to be done in old ... morepine and may also be oak as well. You can see some of the knots showing through on the piece. It's a very heavy. Sturdy piece. Glass doors, crystal knobs and awesome old naturally crackled paint give this so much charm. I'm not sure if the paint is original as I do see some green coming through in one door but I can tell you without a doubt this is old paint. The old bead board backing appears to be oak but I'm not 100% sure. Dates back to the late 1880's-early 1900's. I do not see any major issues with the piece. It is structurally sound. It is in great vintage condition. Note a small area on top where you see some blue paint. I would just take a piece of sand paper to it and lightly sand it. The inside would look great painted white. When I bought this I liked the color of the paint but had intended on painting it white or pink for my shop. When I realized how old the paint was and saw all of that wonderful crackled paint on the sides, I decided not bother. The color is a soft beige yellow tone. Very neutral. The top measures 47 1/2" tall x almost 42 3/4" wide x almost 16 1/4" deep. It is a crackle cream color the glass has a couple pit s in it and is the antique wavy glass. The b ack is made from old bead board. The top does have a hole cut into the back to insert a n electric candle lamp to light up your prims. It also has a latch on the inside of the door. The latch on the outside of the doors does not close. The door will stay opened ajar. The bottom is made from pine and measures 18 1/4" deep x almost 31" tall x almost 39 3/4" wide. 29 inches tall 19 1/2 inches wide 11 inches deep What a sweetie. I really brought this home with my granddaughter in mind. But just lost sight of how much she had grown. What a honey this is. It could even go in a display loft, you know the sort of huge niche that so many newer homes have, with country store collectables and teddy bears. Be aware, the doors are made of a thickness of wood that we no longer see available, quite thin really. They have warped. I still find them charming. If curved doors are a huge problem for you, then this is not the cabinet for you, really. I suspect, they could be unscrewed, wet, flattened gradually, maybe some surface molding applied, then a new paint treatment, and this would be an AMAZING cabinet. I could do this for you, for a price, but for most folks, the cabinet with flaws and no alterations is more ... moredesirable. It's a personal preference. I ship by FedEx and the post office. A 5 stack Globe Wernicke Grade 598 solid mahogany with rich finish barrister with brass trim. 7 pieces including the top and base. All original wavy glass with old brass knobs and bands around each section. Each section is labeled with the stickers. The bottom is a stepback unit and has an unusually big section which is labeled E. This refers to the size and is desireable at 13 1/2 inches deep and very tall. Can accomodate large law books. Photo albums and collectibles. There is slight wear to the top cap piece which is in one of the photos. Someone may have left a plant on top and the ring from water appeared. No damage to wood here just finish. It cannot be seen when the bookcase is together. On the base there is some wear on the right side that looks like it happened maybe 20 years ago and a 3-4 inch metal band is missing. Great little child's cupboard. All handmade. Has wonderful paint history. Seems like a black over red. Maybe over white. The surface definitely has age and typical paint wear. Just great crackeleur to the surface. Measures 30 1/4" tall. The top depth is 6 1/2" and the bottom is 8" Across is 16 1/2" There are 2 shelves and an open area. The bottom had a shelf, but it's missing. There is a small hole, looks like it was made for something. The one side shows a typical Pennsylvania drawing of a bird with hearts in red. Yellow and green. The other side might have had it, but it's gone. The red surface is super. Has nice cutout bracket legs. Really hard to find these small early child cupboards in this paint. Antique Primitive ARTS AND & CRAFT Stepback Sideboard CUPBOARD Buffet w/ Mirror
Turn-of-the-Century Arts and Crafts Three-Peice Sideboard(the trees you see are a reflection in the beautiful beveled mirror) Offered for auction is a solid. Sturdy authentic Arts and Crafts sideboard in original condition from the finish to the hardware. There has been two minor repairs to the piece, the first to the moulding towards the back of the case, which is pictured above; the second, a replacement of the wood backing to the mirror, which you can also see in the pictures. The key does work and is included. Please look at my pictures for a close up view of this antique's beauty and condition. This sideboard breaks down for transport into three pieces. The"backsplash" at the very top has pegs on its underside that drop into apertures on top of the cabinet section to line it up perfectly and securely. The mirrored cabinet ... moresection is also a separate piece and has pegs that are actually narrowed extensions of the turned legs that run from the upper cabinet to the top flat surface of the lower case. These also fit into apertures to line it up and screwing the brackets to the back of the case secures it firmly and safely in place. All in all. This is a beautiful piece of history and is probably English in origin. The detail is magnificent and the characteristics of the quatersawn oak is quite spectacular, even though it can't be recognized or appreciated in the pictures. This piece is 100+ years old and is still as functional as the day it was built. Super nice solid piece. One piece. Back portion is painted a pewter color. Which I believe is original to the piece. I am not an antiques dealer-solely a collector, so I am not an expert on wood. I am uncertain of this type of wood. It is not painted. Reddish brown tone of wood. The two doors below are smooth wood where other areas of the piece are slightly rougher. Great storage on the bottom. The top part is set back from the rest of the piece-hence the stepback description. The picture of the paint drip is of the color of the pewter"back splash" This is probably not the best term. This color in the pic. looks more yellow/mustard than it is. Extremely RARE Antique Salesman Sample Stepback Cupboard w Minerva Head
A wonderful and extremely rare Victorian Renaissance salesman sample of a Minerva head stepback cupboard. Out of the 1870's. The Minerva head is in the center of the removable crown. It has two glass doors with fancy molding and a unique brass Victorian latch on the right door that has an inside"thumb" latch that turns to hold the door closed, as pictured. The bottom part of the cupboard has two paneled or"blind" doors, with a unique knob and same type latch on the right door, as the top. There is a hook underneath the top shelf that hooks into the eyelet on the inside of the left door. The same type is on the bottom left shelf and door. The hinges on all four doors have a pin that can be removed from the top to remove the doors. The top shelves are removable and have a plate rack on both shelves, as pictured with ... morethe four blue willow plates. There is ornate trim around the front of the doors and all around the sides of the cupboard. The cupboard is made of oak wood except for the back and the shelves, which is made of a secondary wood. The front panels on the door have very nice wood grain. The cupboard is in good antique condition, with normal antique wear. There is staining on the inside and back, as pictured. The backside has some water marks near the bottom. The paper that sealed the back panels have come off through the years. you can see this in the picture that shows the back. This is the original finish and I will leave the patina preference to the buyer. Please view all pictures. There are a couple close splits in the front door panels. There is some scuff marks in the finish, and a few small nicks, also pictured. Please do not expect an antique item to be perfect, as it has been around for many years and shows wear, as pictured. It has wonderful scalloped edges around the front and sides of the bottom. The cupboard stands 37 1/2" from the center of the crown to the bottom. The crown is removable. This is a very nice five stack graduated stepback barrister quartered oak bookcase. This case was manufactured by Globe Wernicke; a competitor of Macey and some of the other bookcase makers. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. This quartered oak unit retains the original Globe labels. Bookcase contains four different sizes of cases(stacks) to accommodate different size books(or whatever) This unit also has a stepback bottom unit which is deeper-quite useful. This unit has been professionally refinished and restored-a beautiful smooth and even finish. Note the'leopard' bands connecting each section. This is a rare and wonderful examples of days gone by. The cabinet has two doors, one on top and one on the bottom. Just below the middle part and above the lower door there's a nice dovetailed drawer. The cabinet is yellow and green and there's even a little blue showing through on the drawer. The cabinet was probably all green at one point and was painted over yellow. It's a nice soft butter cream yellow. It's got the old hardware and we even have the key! You can see the key in the pictures and the key only works in the bottom door as the lock on the top door is painted over. It has worn spots. Edge wear, scratches and nicks as you'd expect from and item of this age. The drawer ... morebottom is made from more than one piece of wood and they have separated. Let's be honest. Is this a period cupboard? Yes. Has it been reworked and refinished? Yes. But it was not done recently. The finish has now aged and mellowed and it has a few stains and scuffs. I always show the worst I can find in the photos, so look them over. This item travels in 2 pieces. No tools or screws are used to attach the top to the base. Set the top on, and gravity does the rest. On the bottom, the left door drifts open a bit, but this in stored in an old building with not so level floors so leveling it might take care of that, or it may need a minor adjustment to the hinges. Antique wainscoat step back cupboard. Has two lower wood doors and two upper doors with glass- glass is broken on one door. They are not painted the blue but can be refinished to match and are original to the cupboard. I used this for display in a retail store so did not use them but saved them and put them aside for a future owner. Cupboard originally was one piece but someone along the way cut it in half. C1890 ANTIQUE AMERICAN SOLID MAPLE SHAKER STEPBACK CUPBOARD CABINET DESK BUREAU
Here is one of those rare finds.a simple Shaker. Mission or Arts and Crafts a beautiful and tall, bench made, solid maple, fantastic step back cupboard with New England provenance, from one family, with original glass and lock sets, turned bun feet, many drawers and locking cubbyhole section as well as a"fold out" section which provides a great writing surface. The section above the writing surface has two doors which slide open, expose a simple cubbyhole section, and can be locked with the original lockset and key. The three small drawers are all hand dovetailed and the secondary wood is pine. All of the wooden knobs are original on all of the drawers. The top section also has the two doors each with eight original glass panes.these are opened to find two shelves which are very and easily adjustable. The bottom three drawers are ... morealso all hand dovetailed and have secondary pine and chamfered bottoms. The bottom two larger drawers are slightly recessed below the top drawer and there are simple"columns" on each side. This cupboard has an incredible amount of storage space and would fit in many rooms of a home or an office! It would be great in an office. A bedroom, a living room, a dining room and fantastic in a kitchen! Step back cupboards were very popular in American in New England and the south. This particular cupboard originally from New England and maybe Vermont has made its way to Charleston. SC as many fine American antiques eventually do.
