Oak Step Back Jelly Cupboard Cabinet with Interior adjustable shelving RARE
Up for auction is this unique oak stepback cabinet/cupboard. Which I believe was a jelly cupboard, although I am not sure. The cabinet is made of what appears to be oak and has interior adjustable shelving. There are a total of four shelves, however, one of the pieces that holds one of the shelves has went missing. I think that this piece would be a simple fix for any woodworking novice though. There are minor imperfections that come with age(please see pics! such as dents, scratches, minimal paint, cracks, etc. I have tried to document the piece well in the pictures, but please ask questions necessary. This is a great old stepback cabinet from the Appalachia area West Virginia it has a great old patina I think this is the original finish that someone put a coat or 2 of varnish over some years ago! Square nail construction! The hinge pockets for the doors were a lot worn out as often is the case with cabinets of this age! The only way I could secure the doors without changing hinge location was by attaching with long screws the hinges are period appropriate but not original! The doors are not symmetrical in dimensions and on has a twist to it so it doesn't shut perfectly this is a true primitive cabinet if you are interested I can get a shipping quote more pics etc! This is a gorgeous mahogany cabinet from the old Davis Drug Store in Gallatin. Missouri. It measures 103" wide x 96" H. The top display is 12" deep with 3 adjustable wooden shelves, and wood-framed original glass sliding doors with brass hardware, which measure 49"w x 45" high each. The bottom half of the case measures 18" deep and has 2 sets of gliding wooden doors with brass hardware, with 1 adjustable shelf. This piece is in beautiful condition and I am assuming that it has been stored upstairs in the old store for a half a century. I actually have 2 cabinets that are almost identical, the other being a little shorter in length, about 100 1/2" and unfinished on one side as it was connected to other cabinets. They were used in the old drug store in the late 1800's early 1900's. This store, founded ... morein 1855 and built in 1878, was used as a drug store, soda fountain, and general store in its early days and these pieces are in wonderful condition. ANTIQUE HOOSIER CABINET STEP STOOL / Pat. 1923
For your consideration I have a Hoosier Cabinet Step Stool in Oak Wood. These stools were patented by the Hoosier MFG Co. in 1923. This one was an estate sale find. It might benefit from a refinishing but that is up to the new owner. In pictures 6& 7 I try to show two chips in the corner brackets. In picture#8 I show how it should look. The Hoosier Stool was both a seat or when flipped over becomes a step stool. This one retains the original rubber treads on the steps. The seat shows some staining. this is a beautiful piece of furniture(c. 1880/1890)that really Catches attention.A REAL ANTIQUE piece.that's got an unusual style to it.it's similar to what is called a"Welsh Dresser"It has storage on the bottom for linens and Silver and things you want to"put away"but the top is a wonderful place for displaying treasured plates. Hand sawn/ cut dovetails, top crown molding. We do not know the exact type of wood. The top section sits on 2 wood pegs and easily lifts apart for moving. Top section details: 2 glass doors(Note: left door glass is broken) w/ 2 interior shelves, above 2 small drawers with hand cut dovetails. Primitive, Pine Cupboard Step Back Antique Early American Jelly Cabinet Pantry
This practical country cupboard is a product of early America. Possibly Pennsylvania, having been crafted in the last half of the 19th century. A solid, one piece cabinet, constructed in Pine with a shaped cornice. The upper section is set back, commonly referred to as a stepback, with three shelves behind paneled doors over a large horizontal working surface. With a paneled back. The lower section one shelf behind two paneled doors. Overall. The condition is good. With the expected indentations, scrapes, and other minor cosmetic defects that are associated with antique pine pieces. The construction is solid and the joints are tight. This is definitely a"primitive" with two genuine mouse holes. Stains, and other imperfections that can happen over time. Some of the hinges have been replaced recently and have modern hardware, one ... moreof the lower doors is a bit loose but fine. The outline of the old latches is evident. The step back is trimmed with walnut barn siding that is highly weathered. The cabinet itself is made from barn siding. It is 72 3/4" high and 31" wide.
