Each drawer has the 1892 and 1894 patent date on them.The Library Bureau Sole Makers Company was in business from the early 1880s to about 1925.I guess the library in the 1890s had to be the only gateway to the world and the hands that were in these drawers.Very nice old patina and there are a few issues but not major and easily addressed and fixable with low expense.There is a piece along the right rear back panel which is not really visible from the front.A couple drawers have some cracks and one has a piece of the rear panel gone but every issue is repairable and I have not altered or repaired anything so you are dealing with the original item.No screws or glue added but it could use some skill to keep it original.There was tape used on the exterior over the years and those are the shadows you see in the photographs.The shadow of the ring on the top was put there by the original librarian so I had a place to put my coffee cup.It is a really cool piece and soundly built.Another 100 years is no problem with this guy. Circa 1900 Mahogany Green leather inlaid steps Sturdy and strong Minor surface wear, Here is a very hard to find set of antique library steps. These steps were made in England sometime around 1900 and we have recently imported them into our Atlanta. GA antique furniture store. Library steps like this were designed to allow someone to reach the top shelves of the bookcases in their libraries. Some are simple but others like this one are more decorative and add elegance as well as utility to the room they inhabit. The wood used is solid mahogany and the stairs themselves are covered in a green leather with gold tooling. A mahogany pole is central to the steps allowing one a place to use their left hand to keep balance while perusing books with the right. This pole is topped with a decorative brass cap. These antique library steps are in very good condition. The only wear is some superficial surface wear to the stairs as you can see in the photos. Structurally the steps are sound. At 180 pounds I am able to climb to the top stair and feel very stable. This is a very unusual find and would make a really interesting addition to any room with tall bookcases. These antique library steps are sturdy and beautiful. The four stairs spiral around the balance pole. Here you can see some of the minor surface wear to each step. The mahogany feet are quite sturdy. Each step is covered in gorgeous green leather. A beautiful and interesting addition to any home or office. The turned mahogany balance pole is capped with a brass top. Have Questions? Antique Library card catalog. Made by the Library Bureau Sole Makers Company. Made of oak. Appears to have never been refinished. Shows years of loving wear. Please see all the pictures for a better idea of condition. There are 3 drawers with 6 areas for cards. The drawers are unlike most cabinets and are open rather than seperated into cubbies. This actually makes it much more usefull than most other cabinets. Only one drawer still retains the inside hardware. All drawers retyain the original outside hardware. One very interesting thing about this cabinet are the hand holds that were carved into the sides. This cabinet was apparently moved alot so the hand holds were added after production to aid in moving the cabinet. Normally I would say this would hurt the value but in this case they were probably added around 100 years ago and I feel ... morethis actually makes it even more interesting. I wish I knew the story of why they were added. Possibly a portable library. Think about it. This is a vintage library index card file cabinet with four drawers made by Gaylord Bros. Inc from Syracuse, NY. I believe the wood is maple, but not sure; drawers are a darker wood and look like they have been refinished so I don't know if they are original to the piece. Drawers are trimmed in brass with slots for labels and a rod which runs through hole in bottom of cards. Cabinet has some dings and scratches which can be seen in pictures; top has a light place, one side has a reddish stain, back has a dent and side has a scratch. These could mostly be fixed with a furniture polish. Drawers slide in and out easily and fit snugly. Here we have a beautiful piece of Americana that has now sadly become obsolete from it's original purpose of housing card catalogs for libraries. It has 25 drawers and two slide out writing boards It would be very suitable for office or decorative purposes. It is a nice medium size cabinet that could be used in an entry way. As it has an attached writing pen. The bottom has an open bookcase for storage of additional books or manuals. If being used for decorative purposes, a basket or two would look nice in that open area. The cabinet appears to be hardly used. All of it's hardware is intact. What a wonderful little cabinet. Have actually had this piece for over 30 years in our family.Cannot remember anything about it. WE purchased at an upstate NY auction house. It is really super and has such a nice smooth wood finish and warm rich golden color. I think just a touch of refinishing will be just what this little cabinet needs. Nothing big perhaps. a little"Formby" on it will be perfect. The top extends in a nice lip and hangs over the entire square top so nicely like a molding! The Brass card label holder came off but we have it! It is missing just the tiny nail/screws to hold it on. The inside of each drawer is stamped pat July 4.1899. Being offered for sale is this lovely Victorian Renaissance Revival Walnut& Burl Walnut Library Table Writing Desk circa 1875. This fine 19th century table offers a large faux suede writing surface. Raised panels of burl with incised carvings, fluted legs, carved roundels and turned finials with the original casters intact on all four feet. This writing desk is equally beautiful on all four sides and can be placed in the center of a room. This is a tutor style desk with one working drawer and one faux drawer on each side. Each of the drawers have pin& cove dovetailed ends and the original inverted wood pulls. The cabinet itself appears to be wood. There is a laminate on the top which has been worn away on places on the edge. See the last picture. I am not a store. Up for auction is an excellent vintage wooden two drawer card catalog. This piece measures 16 1/2 x 15 7/8 x 6 5/8" and features two drawers with dovetail detail. This is a vintage piece. So it does show sign of past use, including scratches, scrapes, and dings on the surfaces. At some point, it looks as though the original drawer pulls were replaced with metal knobs, which you can see in the photographs. The drawers still have the metal card catalog framework inside, and I can move the framework back and forth from the bottom. I have not cleaned or polished this piece, but I would imagine that it would look even better with a little care. Please view the photos carefully, as they best describe the condition of the item being sold.

Vintage. I believe it is over 50 years old, Library Card File/Cabinet. Hard to find, this is a modular unit with the top, the card file and the base table and legs. It is about 33 X 17 X 40. It is dark oak or walnut finish, but I don't know woods well enough to determine exactly what kind of wood it is made of. It has 15 drawers that hold 3 X 5 cards. Drawers have adjustable rests, cast brass pulls and label holders. Made by Brodart. Very nice, but it could use some stain touch-up. Card catalog unit from the Morgan Library at Grace College. The library was first built in 1939 but later moved to a building constructed in the 60s or 70s. So I'm not sure when this card catalog was originally built. Some surface wear. But all drawers work, and I have most or all of the rods and metal dividers. All drawers retain the drawer pull hardware. Dimensions: Width: 41.5 inches. Depth: 34 inches. Height(without casters) 28 inches. My grandfather worked at the college as a carpenter for decades and may actually have built it himself. He would know how old it is. But he is unfortunately no longer around to tell me. He bought it when the library switched to an online catalog and kept it in his shop for years after that.

The 12 drawers offer lots of storage possibilities. But for me it's all about the style& décor. Nothing looks so awesome, authentic and enriching as these old office furnishings, with all their details of incredible quartersawn joinery& cast, aged brass. This is a nice piece of fine American Oak. These were the file cabinets of their day. But to make such a thing now would be an immense extravagance. And you can't fake this kind of character and lived-in feel of a fine old piece like this. But of course you can adapt card-file cabinets to hold every sort of smallish thing in very organized grids of drawers. The Tiger-Oak is awesome. This kind of dense. Spectacularly ... morefigured old growth White Oak is virtually extinct, if you found one of these ancient trees that were once ubiquitous in the Eastern Woodlands, it should be preserved as among the very last individuals of their kind. The hardware is all nicely sculptured cast brass and not thin stamped sheet. A very convincing piece, and very well made by one of the premier makers during the age of the gorgeous golden-oak offices& stores that we all pine for. The size of this one is great for an end-table. And it's gorgeously paneled on all sides so its meant to be freestanding and beautiful from every angle. Drawers are nicely dovetailed, finish is in decent shape overall, certainly very livable& lovable. Measures overall about 24-3/8" high. 30" wide& 15-7/8" deep. Drawers look all the same, we measured a sample to be on the outside about 5-1/2" high, 8-5/8" wide& 14" deep. Inside the drawers measure about 4-1/4" high, 8" wide& 12" deep. As usually. this would make a really cute recipe box holder in the kitchen. This item is really hard to let go. It is a beautiful 18 drawer library card catalog. It was the second catalog I've ever bought and really is what got me into collecting these beautiful pieces of history. This item is perfect for an introductory piece. It is not nearly as large as some of the other pieces out there so it doesn't cause space issues. WC Heller has been around since 1891. They are an Ohio based furniture company that is still producing library furniture today. They are very well known amongst collectors due to their incredible craftsmanship. I am not certain the age of this piece and I have honestly never seen another one and. Believe me, I have looked. Each of the 18 drawers are stamped with the makers mark. I initially bought this item with the intention of adding legs and making it a really neat table for next to ... moremy couch and love seat but the piece is so beautiful. I just couldn't do it. The measurements are approx 19"x13"x9" The drawers are complete with some normal wear and tear type scratches on the top and sides but it is in very good condition considering it's age and that really speaks to the craftsmanship. Beautifully constructed. Two sided library card catalog with 30 drawers on each side. The unit is mounted on a high quality custom made stainless steel base that is 28" high. The catalog is 34" wide, 66" long and 15 1/2" high(above the base) The total height is 43 1/2" with the card catalog on the base. The total assembly is made in three parts- the base, the card catalog and a heavy-duty top that is a plastic laminate matching the wood of the card catalog. The drawers have dovetail joints and the overall assembly is over 200 pounds. I was able to move it in three pieces in a Dodge mini-van with the top and card catalog inside and the stainless steel base on the roof. This is a Library Card Catalog having three(3) Fifteen drawer sections totaling 45 drawers, a matching stand, top and pull-out shelf section. This is what I think I know about this Card Catalog. It has a nameplate in the center top of it's base stand which identifies it as"Sjostrom by Gaylord" After researching this name, I learned the following: This particular Card Catalog was manufactured by the Gaylord Bros and was produced under the trademark(Sjostrom) which existed for only about six months before being abandoned, which may mean that this particular model was manufactured under very limited production, making it somewhat rare. It's possible rarity was not its main appeal when I acquired it. Rather, it's unique and more modern style, along with its very good condition is why I purchased it. Vintage, Antique Oak Library Card Catalog with 2 stacks & 4 Drawers C. 1912
Up for sale is a vintage library card catalog. It is a four drawer. Dovetailed oak, two piece stacking unit. The drawers are wood, and in excellent condition with their original brass pulls. All the drawers slide fairly easily, except for drawer L-Q which has some wear on the wood but it still works fine. The metal rods and card stop/supports are all there and work well. Supports are stamped Pat. June 25, 1912. The bottom stacking piece has some age cracks along the sides in addition to some scuffs and scratches. Paint spatters, and a few dings to the wood. The pictures show the worst age cracks where the wood is split in two places, but it is still solid and together. Dimensions of the two stacks combined is 13 3/8" wide. 10 1/4" tall, and 15" deep. Rare Atlas furniture library table/desk with 3 drawers. In 1883 two Swedish craftsman. Gustaf Holmberg and Lars Erickson, started the first bedroom furniture manufacturer in Jamestown, New York. Some time later, there were as many as 40 different companies manufacturing bedroom furniture in that area. Those Swedish craftsman named their company the"Swedish Furniture Manufacturing Corporation" They renamed that company in 1887 the"Atlas Furniture Company" which became widely regarded as the highest quality bedroom furniture manufacturer in the United States from 1890 to 1920. We estimate this item was made sometime around 1905 to 1920. It still has its original paper label and matching pulls. Looks to be make from mahagony and birds eye maple.
