Up for sale a lovely 19th century English nicely figured mahogany tea caddy with brass lion's head ring handles. The tea caddy measures 6.5" ... morehigh x 12" wide x 5.75" deep. The mahogany of the tea caddy is enhanced by an edge inlay of ebony or ebonized wood as well as satinwood. The ebony or ebonized wood is inlaid in the majority of the caddy edges. The satinwood inlay is placed only around the bottom edge of the tea caddy lid and also around the edge of the 2 lids of the 2 interior tea compartments as well as around the interior circular opening for the mixing bowl which is missing. The caddy has a bone inlay escutcheon and its key is present although the lock is not in working order. The 2 interior lids for the tea compartments also have bone knobs. The whole is raised on wooden bun feet. The tea caddy is in very good condition with some minor restoration. Picture#11 shows an area where some of the ebony inlay was missing and it was professionally restored with a matching wax. On the left side lid of the caddy there is a crack in the mahogany measuring 2" in length and beginning at the left edge of the lid. See picture#12. Finally the caddy has a slight wobble. This piece could be used as a jewelry box or even on the front entry piece as a catch all for keys. I put a very low reserve price on this piece. Externally the mahogany has a beautiful rich coloured flame affect grain with a super patina. The original brass stop hinges and lock are present. Please take time to study all the photographs to gain an appreciation of this fine caddy. The caddy is in really good condi tion considering it's age with no major damage. Lo ose/missing veneer. Cracks or splits or restorati on work to the external. I suspect that the handle on the lid may have been rep laced at some time as there are two little filled hole m arks either side. And there a s mall chip to the lid of the other canister see phot o 5. The lock is in working o r der with a key provided. But I think the spring in side the lock is not working as the sh oot bolt mo ves if the caddy is tilted; also one of the lock keepers has broken off see photo 11. These minor defects are very minor and commensurate with age/use and do not detract from the this be autiful quality tea caddy. Please see all photographs for overall condition. Antique 1700's English CHIPPENDALE Mahogany Sarcophagus TEA CADDY Chest
0 0 1 455 2599 North Bayshore Antiques 21 6 3048 14.0 96 800x600 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE DESCRIPTION: Tea in early 18 Century was expensive and was drunk in the famous pleasure gardens in London and the very Wealthy of the Colonies. Early tea caddies were small and made in precious materials. All caddies carried locks on them and it was typical in the 18 th century for the lady of the house to keep the caddy key on her chatelaine around her waist. This meant the servant and butler of the house would not be tempted to try such a precious commodity. Tea caddies by 1780 began to be made in walnut. Mahogany and were often Satinwood cross banded. They began to become larger from 1784 when the hated tea tax was removed. An emergent middle class could start to take tea for the first time as the average price of tea dropped by ... morethree shilling a pound. We are so happy to offer this Sarcophagus Form English Mahogany Chippendale Tea Caddy circa 1700's for your consideration. The Antique Chippendale Tea Caddy comes from an estate in Dover, Delaware that dates back to the 18th Century. The Antique Tea Caddy is made of Flame Grained Mahogany that is inlaid and veneered. The Antique Chippendale Tea Caddy rests upon four original Brass Ball and Claw Feet. Ball and claw feet were a trademark of Chippendale furniture but would have been very rare and unique for a tea caddy. Over time many of these caddies were altered and converted into jewelry boxes as the cost and availability of teas and spices dropped. The Brass Lion Head Handles were added during the 19th century when the box was converted. The Original red paper shows upon the lid, however the inside paper was removed when the caddy was converted. There is a lock and key that are original, however the lock is not working. The front key escutcheon has gone missing. The Antique Chippendale Sarcophagus Shaped Tea Caddy has the original double inserts with the Original Small Lid Coverings. The Lid Coverings still retain the tiny ivory knobs. The Gorgeous Ea

Antique Brown Wood Mahogany Sarcophagus Shaped Tea Caddy, 1800-1849
This nice old box started its life as a tea caddy. But was long ago transformed into a straight storage box. Maybe it could be restored to its former glory. It is about 9 3/4 inches at its widest, 6 1/4 tall and 4 7/8 at its deepest. It has a shield-shaped bone escutcheon and turned ball feet. I do not have the key, but locking mechanism appears to be intact. Weighs 1.2 pounds. CONDITION: Very good. Hinges are nice and tight and box holds together quite solidly. Wood has a nice aged wear. The screw on one of the ball feet is stripped. Causing the ball to fall off when the box is picked up. It’s an easy fix. Please look carefully at the photos. They are the biggest part of the description. Shipping within 24 to 48 hours of payment. Thanks for looking.

Can't find that perfect piece? Let us know. Maybe we have what you're looking for! More pictures follow below. Item SKU, EC1997, Shipping, $20, Circa date, 1860, Condition, Good, Wood, Mahogany, Dimensions, Width- 8" Depth- 4.5" Height- 5" Made in England. Circa 1860 Mahogany Locks and has key Repair to bottom left front corner Age separation to top 8 vintage bottles included, From the late Georgian period. Sometime around 1860 in England, here is a wonderful mahogany tea caddy. This is a simple, but beautiful box that would have originally been used to lock away valuable tea to keep servants from stealing it. Today antique tea caddies are used primarily for decoration in almost any setting. This particular box is made of mahogany. It has a functioning lock and retains its key! The inside has a single wooden divider. ... moreIt also comes with eight glass bottles with stoppers. These bottles were added to the caddy later in its life. They are probably about 10 years old. The box will not lock with the bottles inside. They are a touch too tall, but it locks just fine with them out. They do give the caddy a really neat look though. There are a few cosmetic repairs to mention. The bottom left corner of the front has been repaired. The top has an age split across it. But the top is still very strong and sturdy, the split has not affected its integrity. There are some minor stains here and there. Overall though these things serve to add to the beauty and character of the tea caddy. It is a great looking box that will adorn any home or office for years to come. A great looking Georgian period antique tea caddy. Inside are 8 vintage bottles with stoppers. Both sides are in great shape. With the bottles inside. This tea caddy has a really unique look. A single divider can be found inside. Here is the back of the box. You can also see the age separation to the top here. This is the bottom. A fabric is attached here to keep the caddy from scratching wood furniture. Have Questions? We would be happy to answer

Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. ENGLISH GEORGIAN MAHOGANY CHECKERBOARD INLAY TEA CADDY Presented is a wonderful quality English Georgian mahogany tea caddy. The tea caddy is beautifully crafted with handsome bands of checkerboard inlay on each side. There is a brass handle on the top and a brass escutcheon on the front of the piece. The interior of the tea caddy is divided into four compartments. The inside of the lid is lined with purple fabric. This piece was made in the late 1700s or early 1800s. The tea caddy is in great condition overall. There is a repair/replacement of some of the veneer to the back of the box just above the hinge as you can see in the last photo. In addition. There is one chip to the veneer on the top of the lid, one chip to the front right corner on the side, and a few smaller ... morelosses here and there. Despite these minor flaws, the box is structurally sound. The box still looks great and these minor losses or repairs should be expected on a piece 200 years old. The hinged lid is working well. From the tack or screw holes on the bottom of the caddy(4 in each corner) There were most likely some sort of wood or metal legs on the caddy that are no longer there. Nice vintage hinges on the tea caddy and the two ... moretea boxes inside of the caddy. The one tea box has a top that is warped on the front right side. Inside middle is lined with some sort of thin green felt. The inside of the cover is lined with some pink material. The two tea boxes inside of the caddy are intact. There was some sort of lining inside of the tea boxes that is pretty much gone. The brass lock and the brass cover around the key hole give the caddy a classic look. There is no key that comes with the caddy. I see no makers mark on the case or the lock. The tea caddy is 6-7/8" tall. By 12-1/8" across, by 6-1/8" wide(5-5/16" at bottom) Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Don’t be shy to make an offer. We are always open to reasonable suggestions. English Mahogany Tea Caddy Miniature Box Georgian Taste, 19th Century Antique
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING ENGLISH GEORGIAN STYLE MAHOGANY TEA CADDY With alterations. Mostly 19th Century Item# 130001SLH21 This is a quite attractive English George III Style Tea Caddy. Probably from the last quarter of the 19th Century. In their day, these boxes were an important part of the home, protecting valuable teas from humidity and theft inside of it's locking case. Over time, many of these boxes have been gutted and converted into jewelry boxes as the cost and availability of various teas and spices dropped, and as such the form lost it's usefulness- the same fate befell this little box, later then converted back to it's original intended use as a tea caddy. We believe the interior dividers are later though, possibly following original ... moreoutlines but this cannot be verified. The canisters are of the period, but there is no way to be certain they belong with this caddy. While this certainly is less attractive to the purist, it is an absolutely gorgeous decorative box with which an honest attempt to return it to it's prior glory has been made. The molded top with light channeled edging culminates in an original brass bail pull with round rosette terminals. It lifts on period hinges with mostly period screws. The interior of the lid strengthened and restored with an oak insert, revealing a divided interior of two paired canisters with round and very tight fitting caps, these flanking a square canister with a hinged lid. The oak inside of the case has been stained, probably around the same time the interior was restored. The form of the case is square. The unbroken and undistracted surface highlighted with a period keyhole escutcheon(a probable replacement) the case resting on small bracket feet. This gorgeous little antique box is perfect for anyone passionate about the period and this form. The caddy easily complimenting a square chest of drawers or small side table with good lines. Measurements: 8 3/16&q

Antique inlaid mahogany TEA CADDY, England NR!
English regency period tea caddy. Shabby. Approximately 5" x7.75" x4.25" No Reserve!
Post Civil War Mahogany Tea Caddy Lock/Key works Ivory Union Shield Escutcheon
Description: Here is a great box that was made in New England at some time between 1865 and 1880. It is in the form and size of a single compartment tea caddy. It seems to be made of beech or oak with a nice mahogany veneer. The box has a nice antique patina to it with a few marks and crackle that you expect on a piece of this age. There are a few minor chips and pieces of veneer missing but they went long ago and add to the character and charm of this piece. There are a couple of details of note which makes me think that the maker was from rural New England and not a professional cabinet maker. If you look at all my pictures you will notice that each side panel has a double inlaid circle that looks almost like a“bull’s eye” and that the keyhole has an ivory escutcheon. These added details are meant to make it look more like an English piece. ... moreInstead of the usual diamond or oval shaped escutcheon this example has it in the form of a G.A.R. Shield. This type of shield design was favored by veterans of the Union Army. Most of whom belonged to the GAR or Grand Army of the Republic which was made up of Civil War vets and the predecessor of organizations like the VFW and American Legion. The fact that this box was made by a home grown woodworker adds to the charm of this piece. The color and patina are great as you can tell from my pictures. Please look at all of my pictures to judge the color and condition for yourself. The box is in solid shape and the lock work and has been oiled and comes with its barrel key on a bit of ribbon. The box measures 9 1/2" long X 6” wide X 4 1/2" tall Keep Coming back to see what the relicseeker has to offer. I travel all around New Hampshire. Vermont, and Northern Massachusetts scouting out places for hidden gems. I have a good eye for what people want and there are plenty of places for me to ferret out antiques and collectible from yesterday and a few gems that will become the antiques of tomorrow. I try to take detailed pictures of my items but cannot capture every detail.
