Pennsylvania" These trinket boxes were generally given to high school seniors. The b ox locks and unlocks easily. Measures 9" x 5 x 3.5. Has some light marks on the top from storage. The front of the lid has some damage to the lacqu er. It looks like something was pushed against it while it was wet. There is also a long drip shown on the inside of the lid. Lot of two Lane Cedar Chest Salesman Sample Wooden Trinket Jewelry hope 1 rare!
Up for auction is a lot of two vintage Lane salesman sample small cedar chest. One is very old which was given out to the students who graduated at West Plains High School in Missouri. They were given out by The Butler Furniture Company as a gift. This store was located in Mountain Home. Arkansas. This box is very scare and has the original Lane label on the bottom although, some of it is torn off. There is a spot on the bottom where sap has leaked out of the wood which was part of a naturally drying process if it was not completely dried in the kiln. There are some scratches to be expected with age however, the condition is very good. There is no key. The second box is newer(I think) and I do not know the history other than it is a salesman sample from the ABC furniture company in West Plains, Missouri. At one point, the hinge was broken ... moreand it looks like someone tried to repair the hinge. The bottom pegs are missing. This one also has general wear which is commensurate with age. Both boxes are just a bit different in size. These are excellent for the collector especially with the first one being so scarce. Remember, there are no keys, but you can have keys made. Dimensions are 9" x 4 3/8" x 3 3/4" The wood has scratches. See pics. There is a chunk of wood missing on back of box near hinge on left side. There is a pencil notation on the underside that reads: Graduation 1939. The box is old and the surface shows the wear, with marks and scratches, some variation in varnish. May benefit from some restorative treatment. See pics. No key included.
