ANTIQUE ENGLISH TEA CADDY - REGENCY PERIOD - ROSEWOOD W/LION HANDLES- CIRCA 1820
Up for auction is an incredible original antique tea caddy made of Rosewood and highlighted on the edges with Boxwood stringing. This exquisite tea caddy is quite old. It's style is from the Regency period which dates this piece circa 1810 or 1820. The very English handles are lions' heads with a ring for a handle in the mouths. I did not polish the handles as I didn't want to jeopardize the value of this piece in any way. The key hole is outlined in diamond shaped authentic ivory inlay. The original key is included. Inside the box are two Rosewood lids covering the compartments which once stored precious and very valuable tea leaves. In the center of the box is a circular compartment which once housed a bowl of some kind. This bowl is no longer present. The dimensions of this substantial tea caddy is approximately 13 inches long(handle ... moreto handle) 7 inches wide, and 7 inches tall This is an extremely old piece and has the age related characteristics you find in antiques. Details of the condition are listed above and photographed for your viewing. Despite the age of this piece. It does not give off any unfavorable odors. I will package this tea caddy with the utmost care and. Of course, insure it. I have seen similar tea caddies sell for much more than I am asking. If you have any questions that I forgot to answer. Please e-mail me. Please pay via PayPal within three days of the transaction. Thank you for looking and have a wonderful day.
ATTRACTIVE 1815 ENGLISH ROSEWOOD TEA CADDY
Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. ATTRACTIVE 1815 ENGLISH ROSEWOOD TEA CADDY Presented is a nice. Old rosewood or perhaps mahogany English tea caddy made during the 1810s-20. The box has two wooden inserts to hold tea and the center has a round opening for a mixing bowl. There is a locking mechanism but we do not have the key. The piece has wonderful inlay work, it appears to be satin wood inlay. The piece has been varnished, it has a nice deep brown color. The underside of the box has a nice piece of leather. This is not original. It was probably felt on the bottom of this box. There might have been feet at the four corners, I cannot tell because of the leather on the bottom. This piece is in pretty good condition for its age. The liner of the top of the box is not original but it is old and looks nice ... moreon the inside. Originally there was probably a foil liner. There are some chips to the wood. As you can see in the photographs below, but the box is still structurally sound and looks great. The box measures 5 1/4 by 11 1/2 inches and is 6 3/8 inches tall. Good luck and bid with confidence. Rare English William IV Mother of Pearl Inlaid Rosewood Writing Box c.1830
A magnificent and rare find. I have never even seen a writing box quite like this before, very special indeed. Made from Rosewood, the box is made almost like a modern day attaché case being able to be carried with the cut brass flush handle(I wouldn't suggest doing this regularly as it is 200 years old) The box is smothered with very fine quality Mother of Pearl inlay with a central cartouche engraved and inked with the original owner's name"Susan" The box comes with a working lock and key and when opened, reveals the original leather interior with the lid turning down to become a writing slope or lap desk. The top section has two leather doors with a horizontal section below, all beautifully embossed and in remarkable condition for the age of the box. The two doors open to reveal a Satinwood interior for the storage ... moreof stationery with the inside of one door having room for pens and other instruments(the dip pen shown is included with the box) The other side has a portfolio where letters would have been stored. The section below has a removable pen tray in Satinwood and the original brass topped inkwell. A fabulous piece dating to the William IV era, around 1830. 14 1/2" x 12" x 2 3/4" when closed. A very handsome late William IV or early Victorian writing slope or lap desk dating to around 1830/1840. Made from Rosewood. The box is beautifully brass bound with a quality screwed construction and flush military style handles either side. The brass pin to the side can be removed to open the side drawer running the width of the box. The top section is fitted with two brass topped glass inkwells; the smaller of the lidded compartments is where the mechanism is to release the sprung panel which conceals ... morethe two secret drawers. 1800-1849 ENGLISH ROSEWOOD Wood JEWELRY JEWEL BOX, Mother Pearl England Regency
Amazingly beautiful rosewood and mother of pearl inlay jewel box. This is a box of character and certainly from a wealthy home. Note the bird and flower inlays and the top center inlay is of a vase with flowers coming out of it. Bid or you'll miss out on this hard-to-find box. Size is a large 11.5" long x 9.5" wide and 6.5" tall. English Regency(ca 1820s-30s) Original lining. There was never an inner tray(this was for big jewels! Compare on ebay and you'll find this is a superb and unusual box at a bargain price! Inlaid on the top and the front. Even the feet are special! round porcelain feet with egg-shaped dots around the middle of each foot. Note the tapering lid(not just a plain flat lid) Excellent condition for its age(only apologies are no key but I'm sure you could get one easily for the lock) A few minor ... moreveneer repairs on the lid, only minimal missing inlay. The bottom of the box has a crack in the original. Seemingly pressed wood, bottom. Interestingly, there are words on this pressed wood bottom from 2 pages of a medical book. Showing is p.190" Of Venereal Ulcers" and p.179" Of Buboes" I had to look up"buboes" and it means an inflamed lymph gland. Very interesting(wish this box could talk and tell us what it has seen and where it has been all these years)
