This is a 1909 antique Holy Name. Shrine Shadow Box Prayer Alter sick call box. Hand made of oak, this shrine was commonly used for"house calls" by a priest at times of sickness or death to assist the priest in delivering the Sacrament. The Holy Name Alter was also used for home devotions and was a permanent fixture in many Catholic homes. The framed box was designed to fit into a permanent recess in a wall(like a medicine cabinet) But also has a wire for wall hanging, so it could be moved where needed. Exterior frame measures about 23" tall X 13" wide X 4" deep. The two recess areas containing the sculptures and the sacraments is about 3" deep. The prayer station is large and impressive. Up for sale is this Antique Catholic Last Rites Oak Box with Contents from the 1890's. Very. Very Good condition for its age. The Pieta-like statue has some marks on it and the glass could use a good cleaning on the inside though the graphics are still in great shape! The contents include a crucifix, 2 cloths, a spoon and the two candle holders that mount to the sides of the box. It measures 23-1/2" x 13-1/2" x 4-1/2" overall. It has a wire attached for hanging though I believe it was originally mounted in the wall. Please see the pictures for details. Sick Call Set Extreme Unction Catholic Vintage Last Rites
This is a sick call set. Used for giving extreme unction or last rites in locations such as homes or hospitals. This is vintage because most sets carried by priests now are much smaller and compact. This box is 10 1/2" by 11" by 4 1/4" It is wood and is covered with heavy paper embossed to look like leather. The box has a beautiful brass cross glued to the top and brass hinges and a brass closure. The crucifix is wood, 10 1/2" tall, with a brass figure and inri. On the first pictures the inri was turned, the last picture shows it upright, sorry. The brass candlesticks are 4 3/4" tall. The shaker glass piece has a cross on top. This is an example of a box that families might pass down and keep in the home for use in case of illness or death.

Condition is excellent as shown: Minus light wear consistent with age the piece is void of breaks. Cracks, repairs etc.The reverse painting is chip free and vivid, the figurines are in excellent shape. The Holy Water bottle has a bit of mineral deposit. Antique Circa 1909 Holy Name Altar Catholic Sick Call Last Rites Box & Supplies
You're bidding on an antique Catholic relic- a Holy Name Altar& Sick Call Outfit. These were manufactured around 1909 to serve in the family home as both a shrine. And as a ready on-hand sick call and last rites kit for a visiting priest. 23" tall and 13" wide and front-to-back depth of about 3 1/2" appears to be constructed of nicely stained oak. It features a large inset shadowbox with a plaster or chalkware statue of Mary cradling the body of Jesus in the style of Michelangelo's Pieta, behind glass with reverse-painted bordering and the phrase, Blessed Be Thy Holy Name" Below that is a door with an inset print of the Last Supper, that opens up into a compartment that contains the sick call/last rites kit. Catholic Sick call box/ last rites box with instructions Contains two 4.5 inch"silver" dishes( no markings but likely plated or chromed) 2 candles and holders which are affixed to the box absorbent cotton in Christian motif envelope. A cotton handkerchief There is a clamp in the center of the lined box which may be meant to hold a crucifix and if so one is not included. The box is finished on all sides with a plain bottom It is constructed with dovetailed corners and has a brass cross on the lid and a brass fastener to close. I Dream Retro vintage. art. all things cool. For auction is a sick call/last rites crucifix box set. It came from an estate sale. The wooden cross is approximately 14" x 8" There is a hole in the back for hanging on a wall. If laid flat. However, you can open the crucifix by pulling the top part of the cross down. Inside are stored a set of instructions, a glass Holy Water bottle, 2 candles, and absorbent cotton wrapped in blue tissue. Two holes on the side shorter board are exposed and hold the candles. It looks like the set was used at least once because the candles have been lit, but the set is in good overall condition. The plastic lid to the Holy Water bottle crumbled to pieces and the candles have melted together, probably from being stored in a hot attic or something similar. The edges of the Set of Instructions are yellow ... moreand crumbling but this does not affect the text. This is an interesting item and can always be hung on the wall for devotional use. The top portion is a shadowbox with a statue of the Pieta Shrine. Along the bottom of the glass is written"Blessed Be Thy Holy Name" The glass is hand painted to simulate stained glass. The shadow box measures approx. 22 3/4" x 13" wide x 4" deep and is in very good condition. The bottom portion of the box is a small cupboard space with the door hinged at the bottom. And brass chains attached to the sides. It is held closed with a small brass button snap at the top. A picture of The Last Supper is behind glass on the front of the cupboard door. The opened cabinet reveals a storage space measuring approximately 5 1/2" ... morex 9 1/2" x 3" It holds a small monogrammed stainless steel plate(I H S) a vile marked“HOLY WATER” and a Bible. There are two ornate brass candle holders which are held in brass hardware on each side of the box. The back of the box has a wire for hanging. There is a small bit of paint peeling at the top of the glass but overall it is in very good vintage condition. This is a very beuatiful and unique religious shadow box.

Here is an old"Altar Sick Call Outfit" made by the Homan Mfg. Co. Cincinnati Ohio and it's dated Jan. 11, 1910. At some point in it's life it was nicely refinished. As can be seen in the picture the tip of one of the candle holders is broken off but it still mounts securely in the holder and is not noticeable. IT IS OAK I BELIEVE& IT MUST BE EARLY 1900'S.NOT POSITIVE OF THE AGE- THE ENTIRE PIECE MEASURES APPROX 24" TALL X 12" WIDE X 4 1/2" DEEP- THERE IS A MINISCULE WOOD CHIP ON THE SIDE OF THE CROSS(SEE PHOTO) THE CHRIST FIGURE IS A BIT WOBBLY(LOOSE RIVET) BUT IS STILL SECURELY ATTACHED TO THE CROSS- THERE ARE 2 CANDLE HOLDERS ON THE BOX- I THINK THEY ARE TARNISHED COPPER- CHRIST& THE INRI BANNER ARE METAL AS WELL.COPPER? NOT SURE- THERE IS A HOOK FOR HANGING OR DISPLAY THIS ON A TABLE TOP- HINGES& HARDWARE ARE EXCELLENT- A PICTURE. UNDER GLASS, OF THE LAST SUPPER IS ON THE FRONT OF THE BOX- VIVID COLORS. Vintage CATHOLIC CRUCIFIX JESUS CROSS SICK LAST RITES ICON Wall or TABLE TOP
This is vintage LAST RITES Crucifix. IT can HANG onto a WALL OR One can remove the Crucifix. And place it inside the base allowing it to STAND ON A TABLE The BASE measures 13 3/8" by 7 1/2" The CRUCIFIX measures 11 5/8" by 5 3/8" The Top of the Crucifix has a brass"INRI" panel.this piece of metal has a bend in it and does not lay flat.PLEASE Look at the pictures. The BAse has a compartment for candles and holy ware bottle.It does NOT include these items.it is EMPTY. IT is NOT new.Please expect to see wear to include scratching.I have NOT placed any scratch guard on this item.I know some folks do not like the chemicals.AND the left arm of Jesus has a stain on it. Vintage Wooden Catholic Crucifix Sick Call Last Rites Candles Holy Water Bottle
This is a vintage wooden crucifix. It has a sliding front that reveals two new beeswax candles and a small bottle for holy water. It measures 12 1/2" long. 7 3/8" wide and 1 1/4" deep. It is in very good condition.
