Highly sought after original Danner revolving bookcase in its original mahogany finish. Condition is good. Perhaps better. THe spindles are all attached and very good. The top of the bookcase has two wood separations, as shown, otherwise, this bookcase would be very good. Still very functional-turns properly. Original casters, etc. Some of the inside shelves have stain marks from old stains, etc but overall, a very nice representation of a Victorian Danner piece. Antique American oak sliding door bookcase by Danner Co. C1905
J2957 This is a oak 3 section bookcase with sliding doors circa 1905. It was manufactured by the Danner Company around the turn of the century. John Danner specialized in manufacturing office furniture. It has a extra large and deep lower section that provides 11 inches deep by 22 inches high and 17 inches wide of clearance. The 2 top sections have 9 inches deep of clearance which is standard. All three sections have adjustable shelves. The lower section has a pull out shelf. The bookcase also has a bottom drawer. The top crown section has"egg and dart" trim. The piece has"leaded" glass doors with some beveled pieces. These are really hard to find with all the options on this model. Overall it is 16 inches deep. 37 inches wide across the front, and 85 1/2 inches tall. This is one of the more desirable H&P tins with images of classic books on all sides- each side is completely different with unique titles on the volumes. It is a footed tin with hinged lid cover- all complete and fine. Measures 5" x 4 1/4" and 6 1/2" tall. Fine clean solid complete condition with no damage or missing parts. It does have normal paint wear as you can see in my photos but all the images can be read! It is embossed inside the top Huntley& Palmers Biscuits Reading& London. Guaranteed a genuine 1900 era biscuit tin all original. The bookcase is very much in the style of a Danner revolving bookcase which were quite popular during the same ... moretime period. Huntley& Palmers biscuit tins were as highly prized as the products they contained and today they are collectors items. From miniature replicas of vehicles to tins that could be re-used as household objects. There were no limits to their ingenuity. However the tins were originally created for a more practical use- the airtight storage of biscuits so that they could be transported to distant customers and stay oven-fresh and unbroken. The Founding of Huntley. Boorne& Stevens. Joseph Huntley used the position of the bakery on the busy London to Bath road to his advantage and the shop quickly developed a good name with hungry coach travellers. The potential to sell biscuits further afield was soon realised and in 1832 Joseph Huntleys younger son. Also Joseph, began making tin boxes in his ironmonger's shop which stood opposite the London Street bakery. The First Tins. The first tins to be made were large. Square, 10lb tins which Huntley& Palmers then labelled. These were made by hand and cut from standard-sized sheets of tinplate weighing 115lb. A trained box maker could make about a hundred per day and it was not long before demand outstripped supply.

This solid tiger oak piece is signed with the stenciled"Danner Trade Mark" AND.under the bottom section there is a partial. But legible oval paper label that reads"Paine Furniture Company" The Paine Furniture Company was founded in Boston in 1835! They were a manufacturer. Incredibly we just got an identical piece(Solid Walnut) but this one was redone in a"fumed oak" finish to match most Stickley. Limbert and other Mission Oak treasures. The Danner stenciled signature was stripped in the process. The brass grommets were replaced with round headed brass screws that increasesd the sturdiness of this Danner revolving bookcase. This is certainly a very fine quartered quarter sawn oak Danner bookcase. Interesting sliding door bookcase(works perfectly) which we have refinished with a smooth and even finish. Danner bookcases were made in Ohio in the early 20th century. This model has the original leaded glass windows on the top section and the original plain glass windows in the bottom section. The design of these bookcases were much like a barrister bookcase in that each section'stacks' on top of the lower one; made for easy moving. Etc. Each side has original adjustable shelves. A LARGE ANTIQUE BEAUTIFUL WOODEN REVOLVING BOOKCASE c1900. SUCH A GREAT WAY TO HAVE A LIBRARY! THERE ARE NO MANUFACTURING MARKINGS THAT I CAN SEE BUT I THINK IT IS A DANNER FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE. ITS BEEN IN THE FAMILY THROUGH THREE GENERATIONS AND IS IN REALLY GOOD CONDITION. SCUFFS AND TINY DINGS BUT NO BREAKAGE. LOTS OF DUST. IT HAS 4 TIERS AND LITTLE BRASS OR METAL BUTTONS ALONG THE STRIPS OF WOOD. SOME BUTTON ARE LOSE AND BENT BUT YOU CAN STRAIGHTEN THEM. An attractive oak revolving bookcase. Marked"Danner trademark" as pictured. There are no stains, no breaks or repairs, but the base and support pole are missing. The bookcase portion measures 19 1/2 inches square, and stands 29 1/2 inches tall. Portions of the wood are quarter sawn oak, and very attractive. And a few mahogany The 130 year old rich. Dark walnut patina changes hue with the changing light of day as you will see in the photos! Gorgeous! Overall dimensions are 23 1/2" square and 48" high. The top two levels have sections measuring 10" high. 13 1/2" and7 3/4" deep. The bottom level sections measure 12" high(for larger volumes or collectable) 13 1/2" wide and 7 3/4" deep. Folks. Here is a very early and RARE Tiger Oak Danner Revolving Bookcase in the medium dark'Fumed Oak' finish that was used very often in the 1890-1920 Arts and Crafts(Stickley Era) by most makers of fine Mission Oak furniture. The Paine Furniture(established in 1835) company sold Danner bookcases of this type in the 1880's through the early 1900's with the wider slats and DECORATIVE hobnails. This was probably a special order made by Paine Furniture during those years. We had this model once before. And the Paine Furniture label was under the bottom of the Danner. There are a few very minor"scars of time" that only add authenticity and charm to this treasure. Overall measurements are 26" square and 58" high. There are four levels with 16 bookcase sections. All measuring 16" wide, 7" deep and ... more11" high. Many people also used the flat top of the Danner as another bookcase level, making it a 5 level Danner! Besides being a fantastic bookcase, Danners are great for holding HUNDREDS of CD's, DVD's and your prized Collectables! THIS IS A"HEAVY" PIECE! HAVE AT LEAST TWO(2) STRONG BACKS WHEN UNCRATING! The stenciled"Danner Trade Mark" is seen on a top level section. The tiger oak used is top of the line! The steel and oak base is original and this Danner spins nicely.
