Globe Wernicke Barrister Stacking Bookcase. 5 sections with legs or base and top piece. Mahogany finish with metal banding. Bookcase measures 34" wide x 9 3/4" deep x 78 1/2" tall over all. Each section has interior measurements of 32" x 8" x 12" Doors are missing. The base is plain with square legs and no drawer. Each section has a label as shown that reads Globe Wernicke Sectional Bookcase Cincinnati Standard C-11 Unit Pattern 111 Grade 598 This has been used as an open bookcase in our home for years. The finish is original but not very good or consistent. We have not attempted to clean it up or polish it. The legs do not have brass caps on the bottom. The backs are all original and intact and not warped. All sections and the top piece have paper labels. We are not experts but do our best to accurately picture and describe the pieces. It is in the original old dark ... morereddish brown stain finish. This has four glass doors and plenty of space for books. The overall size is 78 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 60 inches high. The side compartments are 20 inches wide and two shelves are behind each door. The center section is 31 inches wide and has three shelves. The overall condition is good. There are a few minor pieces of molding missing, one keyhole cover is missing, and is in good overall condition for being 130 years old. It has panel sides, carved columns, multi-molded edge on the breakfront and carved pillars. It is an impressive bookcase with a few minor issues. I believe they could be off a Bookcase. One of the doors is missing rollers. One door is missing glass. And, one door is missing a finger pull. Top edge has a 1/4" groove in the center. The glass is dirty, it will need cleaned and scraped. Between the 3 doors I am sure a pair can be used. Please check out pictures they are the best description. Late 19thC. Satinwood & MOP Inlaid Mahogany Bookcase Arched Doors & Paw Feet
This is an absolutely stunning piece of furniture in amazing condition for the age. This piece dates to the late 1800's. We do not know the maker of this piece or the origin. This bookcase stands 66 3/8" high and has a width at the top of 53.25" The width at the base is 55" The depth at the top is 15" and at the base it has a depth of 17" The main body of this where the books are held measures 51" w x 14" d x 57.75" h. The arched doors are flanked on the sides by 3/4 columns capped with ornate finnials. There are bands of string inlay decorating the fronts of the doors. There is a third finnial capped column between the two doors as well. Each column has beautiful designs made from satinwood and accented with mother of pearl inlay. This design is also seen above the doors. The sides have raised ... moretrim molding and the top has an inlaid stip around the front and side and dental inlaid molding beneath it. The base boasts stunning winged.Bracket paw feet. The back has bun feet. The inside has a depth of 12" and has four shelves. The original round pegs have been replaced with dowels. There are some losses to the trim molding on one side of this. There do not appear to be any losses to the inlaid areas. There is a small gap on the left side between the door and the center column. There are age and use associated surface scratches and dings. These are very minor and do not detract from the piece at all. There are losses to the wood below the finial on the right side column. This can be seen in the last picture. This is a stunning bookcase that was obviously well cared for. This is a previously owned item and it is being sold as shown. It offers excellent storage whilst also being a very stylish piece, it has a long flat top which would be ideal to stands your ornaments or plasm TV on, it is a neat compact size at 4ft 6 inches wide. It has a pair of glass sliding doors(can be removed) in the centre and a cupboard at each end with brass handle, each section has a single shelf(can be adjusted or removed) The bookcase stands on a plinth type base Condition The Bookcase is 100% sound. Sturdy and free from woodworm, It has 1 small veneer repair ... moreto the top at the bck R H corner, the glass is free from chips or cracks the plinth at the bottom has the odd slights mark here and there but this is minimal. The rest is in good overall condition just the odd faint marks here and there which are in keeping with a Vintage used item. Overall it remains in very good condition. With a lovely patina that enriches the natural beauty of the wood, and a structure that remains as sturdy as the day it was built. The wood displays a number of old stains and wear marks, most of which have long been finished over. More notably, one of the shelves shows a white mark and a small piece of the lower-right base is missing; judging by its shape, this piece was likely a knot in the wood, which naturally fall out as the decades pass. These marks lend this Victorian mahogany bookcase its genuine antique character, making it a piece that is both beautiful and charming. The shelves, in any case, are all beautifully finished, an unusual show of craftsmanship that is only employed in fine furniture. Adding to the ageless beauty of this mahogany bookcase is its sturdy construction. The solid wood remains quite strong. So the shelves are certainly able to bear weight. It has a flared cornice which has carved detail, beneath are 5 fixed shelves which each have 2 glass sliding doors, later addition) each door has a hole at each end which acts as the handle, the bookcase has fluted hinged columns at end which hide the handles. IN MY OPINION THE BOOKCASE HAS BEEN ADAPTED OVER THE YEARS. Condition The bookcase is sound sturdy ... moreand 100% free from woodworm.
