The bottom is a stepback unit and has an unusually big section which is labeled E. This refers to the size and is desireable at 13 1/2 inches deep and very tall. Can accomodate large law books. The bottom cabinet piece does not have a label/ makers mark but it is identical to the top. The hardware looks fairly old. Does show age and wear. There are scratches and scuffs on wood. This is a rare double wide colonial barrister that comes apart for a total of 6 seperate pieces. The wood is Mahogany and is grade 598 1/2 the finest they made. The doors open and slide into the bookcase to protect the bookcases. This bookcase came from the library at Marymount college after it was closed. Ohio Quarter-Sawed Oak Finish*LOCAL PICKUP ONLY- Western Nassau County* Measurements: 87.5" high x 34" wide x 9.5" deep My family purchased this bookcase many years ago from an estate sale on Long Island's"Gold Coast" It was used in our house to display a vintage cookie jar collection. The entire bookcase is oak and has not be refinished. All original wood with a nice patina to it. I believe it is from the late 1930's. Combined. It is 6 shelves high with a pull down/hinged glass door on each shelf. All glass intact. Some of the original brass knobs were missing but will include extra knobs, specific for Globe-Wernicke units, though newer/shinier. Antique Globe Wernicke 6-Stack 299 Grade Oak Stacking Lawyers Barrister Bookcase
Up for bid is a wonderful 6-stack Globe Wernicke lawyers or barristers bookcase made of quartersawn oak. All sections are the very desirable Grade 299(quarter sawn/tiger oak with the medium finish) Has the very desirable ogee(curved) top and bottom. All sections are size D-10 1/4. Bookcase is ALL ORIGINAL. Original finish. Original wavy glass, original knobs on the doors. Bookcase is ALL COMPLETE. All labels are present and intact. All glass is present(no cracks or breaks) All felt along the tops of the doors is complete and intact. All scissors mechanisms are present. All acid-etched side bands are correct and present. I rescued over 20 sections from a storage room of an old Chicago school library, and these 6 sections were in the best condition. Condition of the sections is way above average for their age. After 100 years the finish on ... morethese cases has usually"alligatored" Not here. Although there are the usual scratches and chips in the finish, which is to be expected(there is a rub of white paint on the right side of one section shown in the photos) the outside finish is overall extremely smooth with a nice gloss. The very top has the most wear and scratches as the librarians slid and stacked items on top of the cases. There is also the reside from 2 old pieces of cellophane tape on the front of the top. I can find no delamination of the back panels, nor any bubbling of the veneer on the very top. Being in a library for so many years has preserved them nicely. Overall size of the bookcase is 84" tall x 34" wide x 12" deep. If you need more photos. Or have additional questions, please email me. Awesome Antique Secretary Desk with Bookcase Top. From the Empire Period. It is in two pieces. Bookcase and Desk Base. Measures 88" tall x 42" across x 19 1/2" deep. The area by the base and drawers measures 20 1/4 deep" I am not sure of the type of Wood. It is swirly looking. Probably crotch or flame Mahogany. I was just told by an Antique Furniture Dealer that it probably dates from 1840. It is signed on the back of each piece. I really can't make it out exactly. It is something like"Fieldwill" The Desk flips open and rests on the drawer below. The desk is a purple cloth.Felt) I really don't know its history. I picked it up in a shop. Rare Antique Globe Wenricke 3/4 Barrister Lawyers Bookcase
Antique 3/4 Globe Wernicke barrister. This is a rare and desireable size. Has all bands around each section and all brass knobs. There is scissors in each section and rails inside so the doors all open nicely. 47 inches tall. 25 1/2 inches wide and 11 inches deep. Very nice clean finish. Some wear on top with veneer which I have photoed. These size bookcases are great for smaller spaces. This bookcase has 3 varying size sections. Back is in great shape. This is a beautiful bookcase.
