The bench is in the original finish; I have gone over it with Old English to cover over scratches from the 100 + years of usage. The bench is completely authentic and is an attractive looking piece that would look great in your family room. Antique Bench From a Bank or Church
This is a fantastic and unusual piece of furniture. Which is believed to have come from the waiting area of a small old bank here in Indiana. It's solid. Carved oak and I think it's green leather studded down with handmade studs. Not really sure of the age. And it has been well used of course, but I think that the wear and tear make it more appealing. I love it but my wife doesn't. So she wont let it in the house! It does have a small tear in the back leather. But easily repaired. And it's got it's share of dings and scratches here and there. And has about 3 old coats of paint: Barn red(earliest) then Blue, then BLACK(newest, but still an old coat of paint) Several places have the paint worn. Revealing earlier colors, and some places even revealing the Walnut wood. MORTISED construction. Arms, seat, etc. SEAT is 2-Board. With the one board approx 75% of the seats width. The BACK SLATS are THICK, solid wood, CURVED to accomodate backs, and mortised into the back board section of the seat. BOTTOM is BRACED by a long. LENGTHWISE STRETCHER, which in turn has 4 Perpendicular braces. WOOD is THICK. And entire bench is SOLID, THICK, and not at all a flimsy bench! SIZE: SEAT is 6" long. 19" deep. This beautiful Antique Bench with storage is an heirloom. Handed down for several hundred years. Some say it was originally a Church Pew with storage. I inherited it from my mother who passed away last year at almost 100. She always said it was well over 100 years old when her family got it in 1890. The smooth finish. Color and grain looks like walnut to me but please look at the photos. Someone lined the storage area with felt and a plank of aged wood for support at one end(not by me) Please see photos. VG Vintage Solid Oak Church Pew, Bench, Nice 4Ft Size
Here's a nice vintage oak church pew we received recently with some household estate goods. This one is the shorter 4 ft style pews or church benches. Allowing more flexible possibilities for use within a home. On one end there is an incised cross as we show in the pictures. On the other end there is no cross and a verticle channel that would be used to align and temporarily join two or more these pews or church benches together. Overall appearance is good with no signs of damage or abuse. It is relatively clean but could use a little light cleaning and perhaps some furniture polish or wax to look it's best. There is a shelf on the back as one would expect of a church pew. It is about 4 ft long, 2 feet deep and about 34 inches tall. Nice vintage oak church pew probably of mid-century 50's- 60's vintage.
