GOTHIC! architectural pieces. Salvaged in the 1970s from the St Agnes convent in Fond Du Lac WI. Dates to late 1800s. free shipping for any nuns! Striking, quarter sawn oak construction with nice tiger stripe patina. This would be off the charts expensive to have custom made today in mill shop. It has the classic, gothic, arch design& deep bevelling. To say this is high quality, is an understatement. Middle pediment with ornate carved medallions at each end measures 46 1/2 inches by 4 inches. That piece alone is enough reason to bid. The rest is gravy! The matching pair of narrow arches measures 28 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches. The small, matching, arched panels measure approx 7 7/8 by 5 inches. Small pair, horizontal, gothic panels measure approx 7 7/8 by 4 inches. These pieces have been well used and show some condition issues. Good chance ... moreto steal a real bargain. I bought these at Red Baron Auctions in Atlanta(rbantiques dot com) These are solid oak with mahogany stain and have a wonderful gothic design. Each baluster is 125" long x 17" wide x 38" tall. They are in very good sound condition however they require having their finish restored. They are sturdy and make quite a statement. They are intended for indoor use. However, they could be adapted to outside use with the right amount of work put into it. The pictures were rotated in iPhoto and appear correct in my file. Antique Brass German or English Tower Clock Turret Clock Church Clock Working
What is being listed now is a breathtaking beauty of immense rarity. A glorious reminder of timelessnesss of time: a tower clock or turret clock, frame cast in brass, main gears all brass and other parts seem finely hand crafted. The clock is complete and ticking away to glory in my drawing room after a break of maybe a few decades when it must have been consigned to the hinterlands of some storage/scrap yard! The last three pictures show the condition when it was rescsed from recyling and taken up for what then was called an ambitious attempt at restoring it. And just look at it now- what has been made of what essentially was a beauty though warped in dirt, filth, squalor and most shockingly, neglect! This turret clock was complete save for weights, dial, hands, pendulum shaft. Clock must be over hundred years old but no history is known. ... moreIt now has a pride of place in my drawing room, waiting to jump over to your drawing room and'tower' over your other possessions, ever so diligently keeping time and watch. This clock weighs roughly 15 KGs on a weighing scale. Stands roughly 15 inches tall(not hypotenuse but perpendicular) 11 inches broad at the base and 6 inches deep. The hour and minute shaft is roughly 17.5 inches long. All dimensions have been taken with a scale and some zero error is possible) All the wheels and their teeth are intact: a glowing tribute to the mastery of those unsung clocksmiths of the past. If you put the clock at sufficient height, and steel cable is fully wound, it can run for more than two weeks,I am told. However I have not checked that. My watchmaker says that it will depend upon the strength and thickness of steel cable and thinner cable capable of taking that weight will run the clock much longer Sounds logical. The small dial for time adjusting is also shown. That dial is also original to the Turret clock. The clock is fully cleaned. Restored, 13.5 KGs weights bought and steel cable replaced. Antique Orthodox Church Gilt Oil Lamp a) Late 19th Century. Constantinople(Istanbul) Turkey. From Orthodox church(Armenian, Greek or Russian) 1.The top cap, chain& lamp are gilt, no hallmarks. This style of lamp was extensively used in Armenian, Greek and Russian Orthodox churches. Apart from general lighting, many lamps were hung in front of Icons and figures of Saints within the various prayer rooms and chapels. It was a pious act to donate oil& to light lamps in the church. Silver, copper and other metals were often gilded in the old“tombak” method, where gold was dissolved in mercury, then applied to the metal and the mercury was evaporated off by heating the item, thus leaving a pure gold“plating” on the silver. This 22-page program, dated May 17, 1951, recognizes the 100-year history of the First United Methodist Church. It contains a history of the Church, the agenda for the Centennial program and banquet, articles on Church activities(such as the Church School and the Women's Society) and LOTS of black and white pictures of various Church groups.
