A really beautiful piece, in great condition- does have expected scratches and wear in finish in some spots due to age but structurally excellent. Finish overall is excellent. Great Queen Anne legs. Is missing a tiny piece of decorator trim on the lower right door front, and there is wear in wood at bottom of piece where door and bottom meet due to where door scrapes when it is opening and closing. Measures 48.25 inches wide, 76.75 inches tall in front, and 20 inches deep. Inside is really, really nice, has metal bar and mirror and top shelf. The doors have beautiful inlaid wood. 2/3 of this wardrobe consists of a pole and hooks for hanging clothes.1/3 has shelves for storing folded clothes or shoes. This is a very old piece. This is a really nice single door quarter sawn oak wardrobe. Very nice cabinet with applied carving. Paneled door with shaped and beveled mirror. Note the serpentine drawer in the base with fancy front legs. Paneled sides and a fluted column on either side of the door. Very sturdy construction-this was a'knockdown' style-piece has been professionally refinished and has a smooth and even finish. Beveled mirror has varnish around the edge but will scrape off easy, I tried it. I didn't scrape off because I'm selling for someone else. IL- Far west Chicago suburbs) Up for auction: A gorgeous. Old, oak armoire, closet or wardrobe. It has a beveled-mirrored door and one drawer, offering tons of elegantly hidden storage. I believe it's English, based on its instructional tag: This Wardrobe when dismantled will pass the narrowest stairway or passage. Instructions: Unscrew cornice and plinth from inside of carcase. Hold the door. I can't be certain, but believe it likely dates to the early 1900s. I had too many photos to include one of the patent number(small tag nailed inside the drawer) which reads: PROVL.PAT.NO. 86004-20. The inside compartment has three hooks across the center back top. And one hook on each side. The drawer ... moreis dovetailed. The mirror has a simple bevel. My photos aren't the best- sorry- bad lighting. I think. It's a medium-dark oak. Beautiful! Condition: Overall. For it's age, I think it's in nice vintage condition with age-appropriate imperfections. I think it displays beautifully(and is superbly useful) By way of flaws: 1) the left side. Center, shows a split(where two oak panels meet) it bows out slightly. I don't think it's really distractive, but could probably be remedied by the handy; 2) there's a 2" x 1/2" chip on one side, near the back, relatively near the bottom- hard to see; 3) can't really see it, but the bottom skirt is angled a bit, with a small split on one side; 4) the mirror I think is totally functional and charming as is, but has spots of loss of silvering and minor imperfections; 5) in the drawer, you'll see there are wood support blocks(these came with this- I assume for the underside- that look supplementary supports) that probably could be glued into position for additional support(I haven't investigated; the closet seems fine as is) 6) the door handle has pulled a bit with a small break in the metal- still

The wardrobe is formed with a central single door set with a shaped full-length bevel edged dressing mirror. Either side of the door there is a carved section. Which is carved with stylised flowers and reeded decoration. The wardrobe has a carved cornice, which also has a stylised carving to it. The wardrobe is raised on a large single storage drawer base and then raised on square supports. Inside the wardrobe it is set with various cloths hooks. The wardrobe splits into sections for ease of moving. The wardrobe dates to around 1880. This old oak wardrobe is sturdy and heavy. Beautiful Beveled Mirror~ one piece of the wood as you can see above needs made and a wooden knob. Hand Sanding has been done of the very top. Old World Lost Art Finger Grained Painted Wardrobe w/ Mirror VERY RARE EXAMPLE

This lovely VERY RARE WARDROBE. HAS HAND APPLIED FINGER GRAINING.old world stencil designs and finger painted curly, burled grain. All 3 are described by antique appraisers as" A LOST ART" IN furniture making. We will get better photos to display the distinct and excellent hand grain painted pattern on this wardrobe. It was applied by a very skilled artisan, but the details are not shown well in the photos attached. The wardrobe measures 82" Tall 31 1/2" Wide 20" Deep The wood appears to be white pine. Or some other wood which has no perceptible grain patterns in the natural. The finger strokes have been applied with perhaps a mixture of burnt ... moresienna and raw umber. Over a base coat of a yellow-ochre the most of the armoire. The base color of the bottom drawer and the crown is a creamy white, and these two areas are not finger grained. But have another swirly art design. The Pennsylvania Dutch design is repeated along both sides of the front. On the crown, and on the drawer front. However we have wondered if this wardrobe was produced on the continent. And brought to US by a Dutch or German immigrant. The consignor may also consign a washstand which matches this and belongs with the wardrobe, Owner also has a chest and bed which is part of the original set. This wardrobe was in New York when we purchased it for our antique shop inventory. And sold in 1975. It is one which can fit comfortably with several times of decor, from ornate Victorian to Primitive. The metal escutcheon is damaged near the keyhole. A small round brass knob, above the keyhole is not an original to the piece.
