This historic armoire is solid fruitwood, delicately hand carved with traditional artistic motifs and graceful moldings. Every plank is hand hewn and planed, some are diagonally sawn. Feet have been restored, perhaps 100 years ago. Warm and satiny. The rich finish is excellent with glowing patina. Doors lift off original hand-wrought hinges and the crown can be detached to facilitate moving. Corners are secured with hand-carved wooden pegs. Country French 1790 Fruitwood Antique Armoire. An authentic Country French or Provincial armoire was hand carved of solid fruitwood about 1790. The satiny finish is excellent with just enough antique patina for a little character- see photos for mars at the edges and shrinkage separation. The fruitwood has old wormholes- typical of European furniture from the 1700's At the top. A well proportioned crown is removable for easier handling. Front doors have been lined in oak a few years ago, probably at the same time the removable oak shelves and supports were added. Joints have original carved square wooden pegs. This Spectacular Early American Solid Plank Pine Armoire/Wardrobe is Circa 1785-1800 Of course this piece was all hand made. No doubt by an early American craftsman. It features thick solid pine plank construction.The armoire has tons of character marks and great patina, I restored the finish with a hand rubbed varnish to protect the wood and bring out the gorgeous graining and character marks. The early hand wrought iron nails are exposed.At the door frame front corner faces you can see the two hand made pegs at each corner. They secure the hand made mortise and tenon joinery of the door frames. The entire top has one solid plank of pine which is dovetailed with one large dovetail joint into the sides of the armoire.The blackened graining of the pine is natural and makes for beautiful highlights to the pine. The cornice detail which trims ... morethe cabinet top is superb. Another rare and excellent feature is the original hand made clothes hooks which swivel left& right. They are hand-pegged into their support piece. The whitewashed cabinet inside appears to be original. There are also a few tiny remnants of a linen/muslim cloth held by wrought nails inside the cabinet.It appears the cabinet was one lined with linen cloth. The iron lock is original, I had a period style key made,the key is solid brass which I painted to match the hardware.The lock and key work excellently. The hardware is reproduction period style iron hardware.This piece has many nicks. Dings and character marks in the wood, There is an exposed nail on the lower left front corner where a chip of wood has been missing for a long time, I like the fact you can see this nail, it adds tremendous character& history to this piece, I made no attempt to restore this area, I think it is unique! The doors have age related shrinkage gaps where the recessed panels meet the frame, this is to be expected with a such an old piece.The doors close well, I added magnetic catches to secure them. Genuine French country antique. Wonderful rich patina with a clear wax finish. I purchased this cabinet in France many years ago and I have been using it for storage in an unfitted kitchen. I was told it was an old food cabinet. Reluctantly for sale due to kitchen remodel and shortage of space! The doors. Sides and front are all solid oak. There are splits on the left side of the cabinet. As seen in the pictures, due to contraction and expansion over the years with humidity changes. There are other hairline cracks as one would expect in a piece this size and age but it just adds to the rustic charm. Please look at the pictures carefully. The interior is lighter in color and has 3 adjustable newer pine shelves that sit in the wood grooves with metal braces. The bottom of the cabinet looks newer than the main body. The back of the cabinet frame is oak with old pine panels. Each door has a decorative metal vent. I do not know what type of metal it is but it has a dark patina. Imported to Charleston from France by it's current owner after he purchased it at a high end antiques store in Normandy. The finish particularly on the front doors is nice with lovely wood grains and the original long metal hinges holding the doors in place. It stands 78 inches tall and measures 60 inches wide and 28 inches deep front to back at the widest points on it's bonnet. This large early 20th century wardrobe offers two hanging closets, each with a hanging bar and one has a 10 inch deep campaign drawer in the bottom for storing shoes or boots and a full size beveled dressing mirror on the central closet door; three large blind pull out tray shelves, behind that door along with a dresser with three large drawers. The inside of all the closets and shelving is lined in a yellow fabric which is overall clean and in good condition for it's age, adding a finished touch. The design of the piece includes an interesting construction technique that highlights the quartersawn oak wood and decorative metal hardware. Up for auction is a beautiful Habersham Distressed French Country hand crafted and artist painted and signed Large Corner Unit. The Corner Storage Armoire. Unit is in excellent pre owned condition and came from a smoke free home. The item was used as a clothing armoire but is very versatile and can be used for many different applications. We also have a smaller similar styled Habersham unit listed in another one of our auctions. Large Double Door Corner Unit Measures 46.5” Wide x 85” Tall. Shelvesare 19.5” Deep.
