Primitive Antique Blanket Chest Folk Art Wood Miniature Mini Trunk Fruit Crate
Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. The bottom of lid is partially labeled"produce of USA united packing company" circled(27) The interior sides read"deluxe quality" and"pack" The top of lid is a beautiful bow type top it's thick and smooth from years of use. This beautiful blanket chest was made with hand selected materials from an old barn here in the Louisiana Bayou area. It was made from weathered exterior cypress siding. Which created a beautiful example of how reclaimed barn wood continues to live on. The top still has the original saw markings from the saw mill which adds a beautiful touch to its originality. If the finish isn't to your liking one with the stain of your liking can be made. Cedar lining can be added at an addition cost. Vintage Industrial Wood Trunk Crate Case Foot Locker Blanket Chest Toy Box
This wood crate has a nice warm finish and interesting hinges. A latch has been removed from the lid. And there are two handles, one on the end and one below where the latch was. The cabinet has an interior lining that is like corrugated cardboard. The trunk measures 31" L x 19" W x 13" T. The interior measures 28.5" L x 15.5" W x 9 3/4" T with a 1" of additional height inside the lid. This is a nice sized trunk that would work great for storing items, stood on end for a display, or as a low end table. It can be stood on end easily due to the lack of the handle on one end. vintage cedar lined hope chest/blanket box - 1900-1950, American, dark wood
This vintage hope chest/blanket box has been in my family for over fifty years. It was given to my mother by an elderly friend in 1963. The exterior is a dark wood matte finish(it needs serious polishing to bring it back) Perhaps cherry, with a cedar interior. It has club feet and is meant to be set against a wall or at the foot of a bed. There are normal signs of wear and tear, which is normal for a piece of furniture in use for over half a century. I have sold my house- so this piece is now in a temperature controlled storage unit. Item has damaged veneer across the front. THIS AUCTION IS FOR A NICE BLANKET CHEST. THIS WAS MY NEIGHBORS GRANDMOTHER'S CHEST. SO I BELIEVE IT TO BE EARLY 1900'S OR OLDER. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED A FEW TIMES. AS YOU CAN SEE IN MY PICTURES. INSIDE YOU CAN SEE TAPE. THAT COVERS A WHOLE WHERE THE HANDLE BROKE OFF. THE HANDLES WHERE REINSTALLED TO MATCH. ON THE BOTTOM THERE IS A PATCH THAT COVERS THE HOLE IN THE BOTTOM INSIDE. THE LOCK HAS BEEN REMOVED AND REPAIRED. THE TOP HAS A RING WHERE A LAMP SAT ON IT FOR YEARS. I USED A LITTLE DAMP RAG TO WIPE DOWN THE TOP AND YOU COULD BARELY SEE THE RING. THE FINISH ON THE OUTSIDE IS ROUGH. THE INSIDE HAD SOME WHITE MAKE UP POWDER WHICH CLEANED UP WITH A DAMP CLOTH. THIS IS NOT PERFECT, BUT WOULD LOOK GREAT WITH A PIECE OF GLASS ON TOP. I DO NOT KNOW THE TYPE OF WOOD. THIS IS HEAVY AND STURDY. THERE IS ONE PIECE OF LOOSE TRIM ON THE BOTTOM. ... moreCOULD BE FIXED WITH GLUE. PLEASE SEE MY PICTURES FOR CONDITION. No idea how old it is. I’ve had it 15-17 years, purchased in Delaware. The top is 22 inches across, tapers down to 17 inches at bottom. All visible joinery are wooden pegs. Sits on“feet, 2-inch tall and 1.5-inch wide boards that run the length of the bottom in the front and back, below a full rim of wood trim. Measures 39 inches long, 24 ¼ inches tall. Holds a lot! Hand wrought handles, lock plate(no key) and hinges. There are some visible old scratches(not lighter in color than the body) wear to the bottom trim, and long cracks or splits in the wood, all of which lend to it's unique character. No discernible damage other than expected for age. Unfinished ... moreor matte exterior. May have had an oil finish at one time; doesn’t look like it was ever varnished. Inside is bare wood.
