There is a top self which is divided in two parts with original green felt liner. The chest has the original paperwork included. The locks were repaired with a safety lock in September, 2013. New key and instruction sheet included. The underside of the chest has style number 2231, and serial# 846230. The inside of the chest is in good condition. The outside of the chest shows signs of age and has some scratches and wear, from being relocated a few times, but is in good condition for its age. The three rear hinges open and close well. Vintage Miniature Lane Cedar Chest From Altavista Virginia, Remember These
Remember this from the early 1900s. Here is a little history on the Lane Company in Altavista Virgina that produced it. No key for it. Lane began producing miniature cedar chests in 1925. Five years later. The firm's sales manager converted these miniatures into a great promotional idea: the company invited young women about to graduate from high school to pick up a free miniature chest at their local furniture store. By 1984 more than 15 million prospective Lane customers had received these promotional gifts. It was March 1912. And a man named John Lane had purchased a box plant in Altavista, Virginia. His son Ed Lane, twenty-one at the time and with little manufacturing experience, was encouraged by his father to try his hand at starting a chest factory in the newly acquired plant. Since the Lanes didn't know how successful their ... morenew venture was going to be, they didn't want to put their name on it, so they incorporated the little company as the Standard Red Cedar Chest Company, with John Lane as President and Ed Lane as Vice President and General Manager. From cedar chests, Lane expanded to occasional tables in 1951, casegoods in 1956, and accent pieces in 1965. In 1972. Lane bought a small reclining chair company in Tupelo, Mississippi named Action Industries. Action Industries was founded in 1970 by Bo Bland and Mickey Holliman. Action sustained tremendous growth through gains in market share and product diversification over the next 20 years becoming a major force in the upholstered furniture industry. Today, the wood and upholstered divisions have become Lane Home Furnishings. This is a Vintage Lane Cedar Chest pre 1945. It has a Mahogony Exterior Finish. The inside is all cedar. The chest dimensions are: 44" long. 19" deep, and 29" tall. The front looks like three drawers. The top two drawers are false. The bottom drawer is an actual drawer. The chest is in really good condition. I would like to say perfect, but it is used. They put a television on top of it and it caused severe scratching across(see pictures. the top. There is also scrape-like marks with what feels like bubbled paint remenants on both sides. The chest is sturdy. It closes and locks. But we dont have the key. There is small bit of peel to the bottom of the inside laminate on bottom inside(picture) It has the all original Lane signs and disclosures inside the chest. Lane Antique Vintage Art Deco Cedar Hope Blanket Chest
Original antique/vintage art deco Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. According to the Lane website, date of manufacture is coded in the serial# just reverse the numbers. So this chest was manufactured on 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are a lot of light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also several small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. I am not an expert on restoration. But I would think that these veneer sections could be repaired. The interior is in very good condition- no chips or scratches anywhere on the cedar ... moreplanks and the felt is intact and complete. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. The legs are solid and are also intact. At one point. The Lane Company did issue a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock will be removed. They are offering free lock replacement kits that can be acquired by calling their toll-free number. Considering this chest is close to 70 years old. And all of the moves it has gone through, it is in overall solid, good condition with a lot of use left in it. All sales are final. So please ask any questions before bidding. Due to the size and weight. This item is only available for pick up OR for a fee of $25, we will deliver it anywhere within 20 miles of Antioch, TN. Vintage 1940's Cedar Chest by Lane Furniture with New Child Safety Latch
Lane cedar chest with a nice hand rubbed polish to bring out the beauty of the veneer. This cedar chest was made mid to late 40's and has a waterfall front and decorative trim. Overall measurements are 44" wide. 18" deep, 21 1/2" high and a weight of 63 lbs. The original lock has been removed and and been replaced with a new safety lock. Shipping can be arranged.
