Lane Furniture was founded in 1912 by Edward Hudson Lane in Altavista. Virginia. VINTAGE 1927 LANE URBAN STYLE CEDAR BLANKET CHEST
This early cedar chest has the trendy look of today’s home furnishing looks. The simple lines. Careful detailing and hand-rubbed, distressed black finish are so in today that it’s virtually a prototype of newly manufactured trunks with vintage styling. The piece has original papers, along with the embossed signature dating it back to 1927 by well known American cedar chest company Lane of Virginia. Original antique/vintage art deco Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. According to the Lane website, date of manufacture is coded in the serial# just reverse the numbers. So this chest was manufactured on 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are a lot of light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also several small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. I am not an expert on restoration. But I would think that these veneer sections could be repaired. The interior is in very good condition- no chips or scratches anywhere on the cedar ... moreplanks and the felt is intact and complete. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. The legs are solid and are also intact. At one point. The Lane Company did issue a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock will be removed. This is a Mid Century Modern style hope/blanket chest- mfg. date june 14 1962. this chest is in very good condition considering its age. Has a few minor spots on the outside but the inside is near mint condition. There is definitely nothing wrong with it, nothing that would make you say damn after you bought it. Due to safety regulations the lock or latch mechanism has been removed. It measures 43 1/4" long 16 3/4" wide and 19" in height. Absolutely Beautiful Renewed 1932 Lane Cedar Hope Chest. This is a really amazing chest with fantastic colors. Beautiful decor and is in great condition. It's a solid chest. Very well built and has stood the test of time exceptionally well. Overall, the chest is in outstanding shape considering its been around since before the big war. All the trim pieces are fully intact. The hinges are tight, the ornate feet are very secure, the inside is perfect and very aromatic. There are a few small pieces of veneer missing. One on the top right hand end, a very small piece on the top left side and a few slight chips across the back. I don't replace veneer but I do stain the underlying layer of veneer so the missing pieces don't stand out so much. This chest was definitely taken care of through the years and with good care it should remain ... morebeautiful for many years to come. This is truly a rare heirloom piece that would look great in any home. This chest has been renewed by numerous hours of polishing to remove the surface scratches and smooth out the deeper damage. After the polishing process. I rub it with rejuvenating oils then spray a few coats of clear to preserve the new-found beauty. What results is a chest that looks years younger. It does have a few minor chips and dings that you expect from such an old chest but they don't stand out after the renewing process. Beautiful Vintage Art Deco 1940s Lane Cedar Hope Chest Blanket Chest
Beautiful vintage Lane cedar hope chest in great vintage condition. It has an art deco design with beautiful wood grain! The wood does have a few chips and scratches but I have not attempted to clean or polish it. The inside is excellent with original labeling and cedar with felt lining. Measures 47½ x 17½ x 21" tall. PLEASE NOTE: We will need to remove the lock and you will need to replace with a new one. ATTN: Per the Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) Full size chests manufactured between 1912-1987 need to have their locks replaced due to the fact that the original locks automatically latch shut when closed and children can become entrapped.
